one thing i kinda wanna see more from jabber in fics is the acknowledgment that he isnt necessarily seeking out *pain* but rather the experience of being overpowered and beated through force, which just so happens to include being in pain.

like. we see when he laughs after zanka breaks his ribs, he gets visibly annoyed by this type of pain and doesnt seem to be enjoying it. when hii breaks his arm, he doesnt moan in ecstacy but rather falters and acts shocked. its only *after* that he starts to connect that pain to the fact his opponent got one up on him that he eroticizes that sensation and experience.

in his fantasies, he doesnt mention the pain of being beaten, but rather the person *doing it* as the object of his desire. "you can beat me black and blue like zodyl right" and expressing arousal at being surrounded by givers but not being able to leave because he still has a task to complete.

thats not to say jabber isnt a masochist or that he doesnt experience pleasure from painat all, because we see that he *does* very plainly. but rather, im saying that the misattribution of arousal *to* being in pain, is moreso connected to his desire to be *dominated* and *completely overpowered*.

Smoke from Jabber's weed and Zanka's incense wafts around the room, moved by the ceiling fan and sent swirling above the boys' heads.

Which is never a good thing to hear anyway, but Jabber's properly stoned now, so that makes it worse. Zanka is also stoned, and is thus more likely to not give a shit.

Jabber giggles, swinging his legs. He's perched upside down, head dangling off the bed while Zanka lounges next to him with his back against the wall. His too-big t-shirt has ridden up with all his wiggling about, exposing what feels like miles of brown skin. Zanka can't decide if he wants to tickle or bite.

He doesn't get to do either because Jabber slaps the shit out of his leg, his fingertips catching against his thigh at just the right angle to sting like a bitch even through the fabric of his pants.

"Ow, you stupid motherfucker!" he complains, as is his right. Jabber snorts.

"Answer the question!" the taller says.

"I'm thinkin', asshole."

What would a strap-on Vital Instrument be used for, even? Like, besides the obvious, original use.

"I dunno what type of ability you'd even get from that..." Zanka mumbles. He readjusts his position to cross a leg under him. Damn, his thigh still stings.

Jabber grabs the blanket that had fallen to the ground thirty minutes ago and drags it up to cover his face. A muffled, "am not" sounds from beneath it.

Instead of biting, Zanka pokes at Jabber's exposed belly until he falls of the bed, squawking and embarrassed and pretty.

Sort of random, but i find it kinda funny how often I see fan art and fanfics give Jabber a whole bunch of facial piercings? Like, it definitely makes sense, the look matches his vibe and its not a stretch to assume that Jabber would get a kick out of having a bunch of metal poked through his face, its just kinda funny to me because, canonically, im pretty sure that the only piercings he has are two holes in his ears that... we have never seen him wear earrings in?

Which is... honestly kinda weird, now that im thinking about it. Why DOES Urana draw Jabber with pierced ears if he doesnt wear anything in them? Does he. Take out his earings when hes working/fighting? None of the other characters that wear earings do that. Does this like. Mean something some how. Is Jabbers lack of earrings some how Important Lore???

This isnt the best picture but look you can see them right there. Why does he have these. Did he do them himself??? Did he just wanna poke holes in his ears but didnt actually care about wearing earings??? Like its such a small character detail but its so weirdly specific its driving me a little bit crazy.

Thinking about Jabber and Mankira and how fucking sad they make me.

Makira is protective. She *wants* Jabber to be safe, to think of himself, to get out as fast as possible. She shields him and works as a ranged weapon when she's unleashed. She's a one hit wonder. Jabber has to actively work against her if he wants to maintain a fight. She deflects poisons outwardly if he's attacked, but it's a punishment if he chooses to abuse this part of her.

And yet, he desires to be strong, to only feel weak on his own terms, to take back his control so deeply he betrays her entirely. Uses the thing that was meant to protect him, be *strong* for him in the ways he couldn't be, for things that she was never made to be.

Do you think she mourns the way Jabber forces her to punish him?

I do think she mourns for him. I think she gets mad at herself and at him for all of this. Because like you said she is very obviously meant to be a defensive weapon yet Jabber turns her on himself.

She grew to be strong to protect the (probably since we dont know how old Jabber was when Kira manifested) young boy in her care. Shes meant to keep him safe, give him the ability to protect himself and what does he do? He makes her hurt him.

They make me so sad :((( I really think not enough people take the time to recognize Mankira for what she is and what tragedy she makes Jabber in the grand scheme of things. He's hurting and probably so scared deep down and she's meant to protect that young boy she knows is hidden behind the careless and sadomasochistic raider he now is, and yet he won't let her, and probably won't *ever* let her.

Something i think about a lot with Mankira is the reasoning behind her poison power.

Because jabber was probably drugged a lot as a child for compliance reasons. She gave him the power to use what was used against him to keep himself safe. Just like claws are meant for defense, so is the poison. She has given him to power to use what's been used against him and turn it back on the people who hurt him.

And once Jabber finally had that power I think it might have gone to his head. Sure, he got used to the pain of being abused and drugged, but now he has Mankira. And essentially unstoppable weapon litterally at his fingertips. Defense and offense in one. The ability to make a quick escape with just one small cut. He can fight back, hes strong now, and so is she.

But he got so used to the pain, practically comforted by it as a way of even being able to tell that hes still alive.... and now he seeks it out, to remind himself that hes still breathing.

The Gods' Jinki

I think I've finally understood what Kyoka said here. The Apostles were the vital instruments of the gods. The gods treated them like a human treats something special that they care for until it turns into a jinki. From the gods perspective, Canis and the others were objects.

The question would be if the care aspect between humans and their jinki is also present between the gods and the apostles. The apostles are also thinking and feeling beings, though, who created their own jinki in second generation. Rudo's use of his gloves to create his own jinki from trash would make those the third generation while the normal givers create jinki in this human first gen version which are significantly weaker and don't last.

This brings up many points:

how autonomous were the 4 apostles? Did becoming an apostle, and therefore the jinki of a god, strip them of their free will?

does every apostle have their own giver-god?

are their symbols actually the symbols of the individual gods?

including the Hell Guard logo, we have 5 symbols at least. Were there more gods than that?

for now we have the god vs human conflict. Did the gods fight among each other as well? Is that why a jinki that can nullify other jinki was created?

how badly can the human jinki of a god be objectified and therefore dehumanised? Is the Watchman the end-result of that god-given jinki process?

is Kuro a victim of that dehumanisation?

is Hii also a victim of that? Or is he a second generation jinki created by another apostle?

will other apostle be created at some point in the future?

I'm also wondering now if the slavery we've seen will be linked back to the apostles who could've been the slaves of the gods. Thematically, that would come full-circle to Alto, who might've inherited Canis' fate, saving Enjin, who was a slave.

This is foreshadowing right. This is foreshadowing that riyo is going to get some focus and also a backstory in this up coming arc right. Right Urana. Its Riyo backstory time right. I am on my knees I am begging I need Riyo backstory so so bad. Urana please. Is this thing on. Urana we're getting Riyo backstory right-

On the hamsa jinki's end, Zanka wonders if it dissolved because of a time limit or because of something else.

Could it be [this specific thing] or [something else unknown] is a literary device you'll often see in manga where the author communicates that it's not [this specific thing] but the second option of [something else] which is yet unknown. It's foreshadowing.

In this specific case we later learn that the jinki dissolved right then because Rudo believed the fight was over and so the jinki's purpose was fulfilled. So Zanka's thought of "Or is there some other reason..." became true.

Urana uses the same formula again in the latest chapters, this time with two specific options before Kyoka wonders about the unknown.

This foreshadows something really important to us which we shouldn't overlook: Through Kyoka, Urana acknowledges the blood relation Rudo has with Canis but then she foreshadows a third option for why Rudo pays such a little price for his Watchman gloves.

In other words, just because he's Canis' descendent, Rudo doesn't get a free pass on the jinki repercussions. One additional thing is going on with Rudo that we don't understand yet, and my best bet for now are his hands and the curse and story that comes with them.

Maybe they (as in the hands' wrapped-in-bandages appearance) act as a barrier between Rudo and the gloves, preventing the gloves from extracting a high payout for usage. Or there is something physiological or metaphysical going on that keeps the cost low, but either way, being a Sphererite or from the Surebrec line alone doesn't explain Rudo's low sugar price.

It's a popular theory that the Watchman in the barrier is either Canis or Alto, and that Rudo's hands are a curse passed through the Surebrec family promising him the same fate. And that could be true but in a way where that curse isn't inherently - through Canis being appointed as an apostle - part of Canis. That seems like additional lore long after the establishment of the apostles as intermediaries when everything went to shit.

Maybe talking nonsense here but isn't there also an element that Givers must be touching their jinki directly for them to work?? Corvus was VERY surprised when Follo confessed to using Alan with his gloves on. If Rudo has been using R3 with bandages on, maybe that's also playing a part on why Rudo isn't paying as much of a price??

Also I love that so far it's the Nijikus making these observations in canon.

Honestly, I hate it when people act like Jabber is this huge, buff dude when he’s clearly drawn super lean and on the skinnier side in the manga. And ngl, I blame that one studio poster where they made Zanka’s hands tiny and Jabber’s ridiculously big, so everyone took that and ran with it.

Shit like this is a massive problem in the fandom. It wouldn’t seem like it but it factors into the portrayal of making Zanka some tiny meek femboy next to a big buff aggressive Jabber when that is so not the case. They’re both androgynous as fuck. Their outfits are almost exactly the same, and if anything Jabber is more blinged out so shouldn’t he be the fem one in the eyes of artists who like to put characters in shipping boxes (“grumpy x sunshine, black cat and golden retriever” type shit), and he has the long beautiful hair, canonical painted nails, and pink energy whilst Zanka is in baggy ass pants, emo boy hair, is aggressive and rude as hell so why is it they exaggerate such a specific dynamic upon these dudes? We can see it down to this point, their hands. Jabbers hands are maybe a little bigger and knobbier than Zanka’s, but people will take that and run with it to say that Zanka is delicate and graceful and princess-like. The dude grumbles and bitches and yells at any given chance and is nonchalant as hell the rest of the time. Where are you people getting this shy nerd archetype from Zanka Nijiku? In fics and stuff he’s constantly getting yanked into social shit or thrown off a routine by bestie Riyo or Enjin ir smth, but Zanka is not a character easily cowed nor is he incapable of thinking for herself, so why why why do they see him as spineless and meek? Meanwhile Jabber is like two inches taller than Zanka with slightly bigger hands and suddenly he’s a jock and hyper-masculine and constantly pushing himself onto Zanka? I would like to point out a fun fact that Jabber has literally never forced physical contact with any character, especially not Zanka. Yeah he kills and fights people against their will but with touchiness? Nah. He doesn’t do that. When Zanka is tripping out during round two, he literally sits so far away from him observing even though he could get up all close and personal, but he doesn’t. Then when he gets closer, to talk to him in the off chance he’ll hear him, he doesn’t make any contact whatsoever until it’s time to drag him away. His touches are for a purpose pertaining to his job to be carried out for Zodyl. He only touches Rudo because he was tasked in kidnapping him, but doesn’t do anything besides throwing him over his shoulder. Then he grabs Zanka’s ankle to drag him, not even drape him over his shoulders or bridal style to cop a feel like some authors will be convinced he’d do. Zanka is incapacitated and Jabber likes him, so he totally could’ve pushed past his boundaries and poked him or like, lifting an arm to drop in a mocking way to show how helpless he is, but he doesn’t. Lays very close, but never making contact. So why the hell do I see fanfics, specifically modern ones, make Jabber some touchy guy always on everyone and invading Zanka’s space off the bat? That’s not what he’s like at all. Ya’ll authors are choosing easy options but missing such interesting facets of his character that would make characterization harder, but it’d be so worth exploring. I get they’re essentially dolls for us to play and dress up with, so I’m certainly not saying people can’t see them this way but it’s just a personal vendetta of mine. Interacting with the source material does wonders ya’ll.
