The really unfortunate thing about mental health progress is that sometimes you realize you've made it in the form of "wow, I haven't felt this bad in a fucking while"
On the one hand it's a bit of a pick me up in a dark place to know that this will pass because it has passed before on the other hand sometimes it isn't entirely a pleasant thought to go "wow, I used to feel like this all the time. That was pretty fucking bad. It's pretty bad right now too also."
Someday your current baseline will be the sort of thing you consider A Really Bad Day. It does get better.
Yeah, it's time to get this post out again
The fiction podcast liveshow is actually such an interesting medium to me. It's a stage play but it's also kind of not. It's an audio production but it's also kind of not.
The voices we've known privately in our headphones are spoken by faces in front of our own eyes and the eyes of a crowd. The actors will sound like their characters, but might not look like them at all. We don't need the actors to know their lines by heart, or for there to be any props or stage dressing, for us to believe in the story. An actor's facial expressions, some body language, and some movement will generally reflect the attitude of their character, but the characters' actions won't always be acted out literally in front of us. The story is usually understandable entirely through audio, but we gain something unique through the visual experience.
It's theatre at its most figurative. It's voice acting at its most embodied. The show lives on the stage or in our ears or somewhere in between.
The usage of contrasting themes in Iron Lung make for such a compelling story:
Simon is a convicted terrorist but he is polite.
Ava is stoic but she cares.
Their God sees everything but understands nothing at all.
The Cult of Eden is agrarian but violent fanatics.
The Consolidation of Iron is brutalist but they are the ones still holding onto hope.
The setting is high-tech futurism but facing extreme scarcity despite that.
The welding-together of concepts that would otherwise clash and fight with each other impresses me as a literature enthusiast. I see what you did, Mr. Iplier.

me trying to convince myself that the whole spectrum of human emotions is a good and necessary thing to feel even if its not comfortable while im actively experiencing emotions that make me feel like my bones are being dissolved in acid
having your own money is fucking dangerous because the only person stopping me from buying whatever I want is myself. and myself has bad judgment sometimes
it sure is fun being private and closed off but just once or twice i would like to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known without it being such a mortifying fucking ordeal
donāt take my defeatism too seriously I will always begin again and again no matter what
I might sound miserable most of the time but at my core Iām a very hopeful person
