being a normal fbi agent in the same building as scully and mulder must be insane. like, just consider how many times mulder was presumed dead just for him to waltz back in there without an explanation.
someone tells you that spooky mulder (who recently punched an assistant director in the hallway) died and no one knows why or where or how. he didn't deserve that, everyone's a bit sad and wondering what'll happen to scully but oh well. apparently she got fired.
then a week later kevin from accounting shows up on monday and tells everyone that uhhh actually mulder is alive! he's coming back to work and so is scully. start the betting pool again.
he goes missing, returns, is presumed dead, returns, normal day at the fbi. he's like a damn boomerang.
skip forward a few months and oh! agent scully is saying mulder is dead so it must be true for real this time. everyone is a little sad again but moving on, there's work to do.
two days later you see him walking in the hallway like nothing ever happened. kevin from accounting is already collecting bets again. you start thinking he might be immortal or just has really good health insurance.
fast forward and everyone is talking about the fact that scully and mulder went to antarctica for reasons ??? and somehow made it back alive. also their office burned down and kevin gets mildly worried about the ever growing betting pool in his locked drawer.
you hear rumours about mulder being in a psychward and also he might be dying again. you tell kevin that he'll be back by the end of the month tops, no need to dissolve the bets. you're right. someone crosses in front of agent scully on her war path and is traumatized for life.
THEN he goes missing for real. agent scully is a time bomb and you do not want to get in her way. ever. do not mention mulder in a five mile radius. there are whispers she almost killed someone with a stapler for offering condolences.
some more months pass, kevin starts a new betting pool because surprise! agent scully is pregnant! who might be the father? (a few insane people do not say mulder. those people are wrong. one brave soul bets on skinner.)
he's found dead. everyone is surprisingly sad about it. he's not coming back from this one, gary from violent crimes tells you and you agree. they buried him, that's it, game over. skinner wins the betting pool by a mile.
three months later and you go to work like normal but oh. ???? is that mulder??????? but he was dead???? he's been dead for three months??? HOW is he alive and here. gary calls him alien jesus and you agree. or he has REALLY good health insurance.
mulder coming back from the dead is the main talk for weeks.
no one can figure out what the hell happened but life goes on. you're convinced they're both immortal and god help anyone who gets in their way. skinner stays silent and no one can get anything out of him.
kevin starts the betting pool again.
i fucking love how watching xfiles in order gives you such insane emotional whiplash
like for example, s1 you have ice, this amazing "the thing"-esque thriller, immediately followed by space, which is probably top ten least memorable episodes in the world. beyond the sea has so many emotional beats and insane levels of acting skill, immediately followed by fucking gender bender lmfao. the absolute mindfuck of having the duane barry/ascension/one breath trio interrupted by the 14 year old emo kid's vampiric wet dream that is 3??? unparalleled levels of unhinged decision making in that production room
anyway, i just watched colony/end game, and it ends with that poignant scene between mulder and scully in the hospital, after she put on such a demonstration of loyalty and love by ignoring his wishes and going after him and saving his life, and mulder finishes the scene by talking about how he has renewed faith in his search for truth despite his heartbreak, and it's beautiful bc in the end, isn't loyalty, love, and faith what this show is all about? -cue credits-
then "watch next episode" pops up and
it is the one with the invisible gorilla
this shit sure does keep you on your toes, huh?
one of my favorite things about xfiles episodes where the killer is a human with supernatural powers of some sort is that they're always like, "lol, it's not like anyone is ever gonna catch me. who would ever believe that the horrible accident in my backstory made it so that i can now control dung beetles with my mind and make them eat the brains of my enemies on my command" or whatever, and then ol' spooky Rolls Up and just goes, "i know about the beetle army, john, so why don't you just confess?"

I get that she’s busy like… having a baby and running away from SuperSoldiers™ but…
I was right. TL;DR: Scully may be a medical doctor and a scientist, but she ain’t no green thumb.
UPDATE: Scully bought a new bromeliad in season 9 because SHE LEARNED NOTHING THE FIRST TIME AROUND.

Remember that time Scully asked Mulder to find out his next door neighbor’s name and instead of just going up to the guy and asking “Hey, what’s your name?” Mulder instead picks the mailbox lock and steals the guy’s mail
I keep thinking about how much of a statement they make about Mulder being a runner.
It's in the first episode. In the second. We see him jogging. He invites Scully to come with him. And then the sprints when he's chasing down a suspect. This man can outrun a horse.
This man is a runner. And he's stupidly fast.
And then there are all of those scenes where he and Scully are getting chased. and it's such an unspoken, yet deliberate, thing cinematically that he matches his stride to hers always. He never rushes her, never pushes her. He just matches her. And even with his long legs he's always a step behind, always a step in front. Wherever he needs to be to stay between Scully and danger.
Because it's so ingrained in his entire personality that Scully has to be safe.
That her life is the one thing he can't risk
