"Ah, lass, you're too kind." Quinn gave her a soft, genuine smile. "It's okay. Don' worry about sparin' me. M' fine with it."
"M' sure. You have it. It was a custom, so they won't be takin' it back. I could sell it, but I dun' need the money, honestly." The mutant would much rather give it to someone with a kind heart who deserved it.
"Not often someone sticks their neck out for me." He gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
He looked around, pointing at a car nearby with very tinted windows. "Why don' ya try it on an' give it a look? That should make a decent mirror, right under the street light, yeah?" Maybe she'd change her mind about it once she saw how nice it would look on her.
It was rare for the woman not to flinch when someone she didn't know too well touched her but Quinn's hand on her shoulder didn't feel threatening. Following his finger where he had pointed she'd find the car he was talking about and made her way over to try on the necklace. "I don' why you seem nice." From what she had experienced so far that is. Eden was typically good at reading people but that didn't mean she hadn't been fooled before by someone manipulative.
Fingers trembling out of fear of dropping something so expensive it took the brunette a try or two to clasp the necklace but once it was on she leaned in closer to see how it looked in the car window. A genuine smile lit her features as the orange sapphire glinted in her reflection, the necklace elevating her outfit and mood exponentially.
This was all more than Eden had bargained for but she supposed being at the right place at the right time had it's perks sometimes. She was so used to things turning out disastrous that this one instance made her a bit skeptical that there wasn't more expected of her. "If it's more of a burden to ya to keep it, I'll accept it. But I'm not joinin' no gang - okay?"
Turning once more to look up at Quinn she'd smile, "Thank ya, it's really pretty. You have real good taste and it's a bummer that ya got taken for granted. But there's other fishes out there." Somewhere.
OOC: More blood work and testing on the horizon. This doctor is the first to ever consider that I could have a blood disorder ontop of the other issues going on - so we’re going to try and rule that out too. Yesterday and today I have been nearly bed ridden with extreme dizziness that I’m praying will pass soon. It’s near impossible to do anything like this.
I am intermittently online and writing replies for the queue as I can. Thank you all for being patient with me.
It’s a lot easier for me to ask questions and send others memes right now so if you see me active in this manner that is the reason. I’m not actively ignoring you.
I am open to dms and discord chatting/plotting, I just may be slow going in replies.
TLDR; I’m here in small doses but still here.
He regarded his daughter with a half smile and a ruffle of hair as he leaned into the squeeze. “Not my eyes, but maybe my mind. Been thinking a bit too much this morning’,” He confessed.
Out of all of his family, Ethan was the most mortal, the one that would age the fastest and the least graceful. Even his sister had shifted. So it would make sense for Nova to rag on him for something outside of his control. When it came to aging, Ethan didn’t change too much. He was still the same, less spry he supposed, but still apt to hunt when he needed to.
“Ain’t gonna leave me alone, huh? Does that mean you got something in mind for us today?” He didn’t have plans other than hanging around the property but even if he did, he’d clear the board to spend with his daughter.
"Oh, I was thinking a jam sesh or something. I got the drums all set up now. It's been a minute.... but..." They trailed off, now distracted by the idea of Ethan worrying about anything at all. He was always paranoid about something they felt like.
"You been thinking... about what?" Nova asked, brows raised. "You okay?"
Ethan couldn't help put smile at the request for a family jam session. It had been a long while since they all played something as a unit. "That's an idea." Running a hand through his overgrown mop Ethan would sigh, there wasn't any use in lying, not when Nova was as perceptive as she was. "I'm good - just think about life and something your Uncle Lor had talked to me about." He shrugged before lumbering off towards the house.
"'You don't gotta worry about me. I'm more interested in what you've been up to."

"Okay!" Jez says as she clasps the necklace she ever so gently put around Kehls' neck. "You can look now!" She pointed at the little mirror she had on the bus. "Thought ya might like something new ta wear for our sneak fest out on the town!"
Having been instructed to keep her eyes shut, Kehlani waited with baited breath until Jez allowed her to open them once more. When she was allowed to open them again she stared at her reflection in the small vanity mirror with wide eyed wonderment. “Ohmygoodness Jez, it’s so pretty.”
Reaching up to finger the charm she’d turn back to smile at her favorite person. “Thank you, I think this is the perfect accessory. I’m never taking it off.”
"Let's do that now then. If we don't find one we can call city hall and ask the clerks if anything's been filed with them." Tor said, groaning and massaging his head as he stood up. The sheets fell away to reveal he had no pants on, though his boxers thankfully still on kept him somewhat modest.
"Prolly won't find one though," He said as he moved around the room, looking through drawers and lifting up pillows as he went. "Back when I was still livin' in Vegas those all night wedding chapels would make ya pass a breathalyzer before you could get anything legally binding. I'm not a hundred percent sure what the law is here but I bet if we showed up somewhere dead drunk asking to be married they'd have said no."
Rose watched as Tor moved about the hotel room in search of a paper trail of their forgotten nuptials. "Thank goodness for your knowledge on this sorta thing." Slowly she moved off the edge of the bed to join him in his search. "Do you remember anythin' at all about yesterday?" Moving towards the side of the room she'd fallen asleep on the brunette would rummage through her duffel bag to see if she'd stashed the paperwork there.
Something told her that if she had been the one with the paper old habits of stashing important things that she would need if on the run would be one of them. It had taken her years to finally leave her birth certificate and at home in a drawer rather than have it folded up and crumpled behind her driver's license in her wallet. Frowning she'd turn back in Tor's direction. "Would it be like a print out or something fancy looking?"
A small grouping of papers on the desk near the room's entrance caught her eye. She ambled towards the desk careful not to move too quick - the vertigo was something she couldn't stand. Especially after a night of drinking. "Couldn' even tell ya what we drank - can't do that old wives tale - the one about the hair of the dog that bit you or somethin'."
"Oh shit! That must'a been a real fuckin' drag, livin' with a cop as a teenager." Tor snickered, then gave her a teasing look when she asked about his own youth. "Ya don't still know the guy do ya? Cause if so I might need to do some quick math on the statute of limitations fer some'a these stories..."
Despite what he'd said he shared plenty of juicy tales of his misspent adolescence, along with the drink. Unlike Rose he liquor just fine, hardly seeming affected at all. Anyone who hadn't seen him drinking would assume he hadn't even touched a drop.
"Crap. I don't think we can just stick her in a cab at this point." Tor said, giving her shoulder a gentle shake that did absolutely nothing. "Ya got a back room she can sleep it off in? Or if ya know her address I can take her there."
Benny watched as Tor shook Rose sighing as the woman didn't budge at the man's touch. She was still breathing, that's all that he had worried about initially. When the man who had occupied all of his coworker's time questioned if they could store the woman in some backroom since she'd not be sober enough or safe in a cab. "That's a liability unfortunately, I can't do either of those things for ya bud. I'm sorry."
Leaning against the back of the bar, towel in hand Benny tried real hard to think of how to help. "I know her dad's outta town right now, but you'd not want to mess with Garick anyway - he's a cop." The bartender had heard bits and pieces of the two's banter through out the evening. "I gotta start lock'n up and counting the till - let me know if you need help moving her."
Oblivious to the conversation that had gone on about her and the jostling of her body as she was carried out of the bar/

Tynan just stared at her, frustration and hurt simmering behind his gaze. He was about to say 'fine,' and call an Uber or something when Scarlett asked him a question that stopped him in his tracks, her laugh punctuating it with a dark undertone. She didn't normally laugh like that.
"I wasn't- it wasn't meant as a rejection. I was just trying to make sure you didn't do anything stupid that you'd regret once you were sober." Tynan explained, though felt a lump of regret forming in his throat.
He was so terrified of her rejecting him. Had he really shot her down preemptively just to avoid the possibility of hurt? Not only did it not work, because he was definitely feeling a lot of hurt right now, but it had hurt her too.
His best friend. Scarlett. The person he loved more than anyone else in the world. He had hurt her just to try and protect himself.
Shame spilled over with tears and he looked away, letting his hair fall over his eyes like a veil. Normally he'd push the stupid curls out of his face, but right now they let him hide, even just a little bit. "I didn't want to chance that you wouldn't mean it later," he mumbled, barely audible, "and even if you did... I didn't want our first kiss to be on a drunken whim."
He turned away from her after stating that he hadn’t meant to reject her advance. It was hard for her to believe when she was the one who just lived the moment. She stepped closer to him, shooting a look towards the crowd that had formed in the kitchen doorway. Mandy, catching the look, quickly shooed everyone off in another direction, leaving Scarlett and Tynan to duke this one out in the hall.
As Tynan hid from her his voice lowered, causing the woman to creep nearer to him in order to hear what he was saying. “A drunken whim? As if I haven’t waited for this perfect moment only to be shot down because you think I’d regret it?” She was trying to follow the bouncing ball that was this conversation. Apart of her wanted to walk away, but the part that couldn’t let the idea of her and Tynan go stood planted there.
“If not tonight, when?” She pressed. “Because kissing you isn’t just in on mind when I’m drinking - its all the time.”
"Impressive. So you're one of the dangerous ones." Despite how they could be taken, Beryl's words were easy praise. "It takes a lot of moxie to stick to that kind of thing. A few good stories, and more than a little bit of cash to get your own outlet started. And that rarely goes over well without some political backing." He gave her a playful squeeze, looking away briefly. "Good way to get yourself in trouble, too."
His smile only widened at the notion that she intended to put him to work, but he didn't look at her again immediately. It was true that investigative journalists were a dangerous breed, but anything useful was dangerous, and anything dangerous could be wielded in a number of directions. It would be up to her to allow it, but there was more than one make or break story in this particular room.
When Elyse refocused his attention, blue eyes settled on the man more sharply than the bored expression on the rest of his face would suggest. For a moment, he was quiet, before looking at Elyse and offering a soft smile. Practiced. Something that would fool most as something affectionate. He tucked a strand of her hair back, before holding her against his side a little more securely.
His head turned again to settle on the man, reasonably aware of what he was looking at. His sire would have a thing or two to answer for in bringing a fledgling to an event like this; either she intended chaos, or she was courting trouble that others of her kind wouldn't find particularly agreeable. Rather than commenting on any of that, his smile sharpened.
"If you're going to make an attempt at an apology, you could begin with groveling," Beryl stated, his tone low and bored in opposition to the open challenge on his expression. "Or, at the very least, a sincere apology. If you can't be bothered with either of those things, then I'd suggest you not continue to intrude on her night by insulting her intelligence or connections. I might take offence, and I'm not so sure your date can afford to lose that kind of face."
While not the hosts of tonight's events, and for good reason, he and his sister weren't without sway. The Chrysoberyl Club did, after all, cater to a very different underworld than the one perusing here. Cutting off access to the VIP area for any of the vampires that had come to rely on it would cut off not just access to blood, but also to a place their kind could gather without having to hide.
But no one had ever said Beryl wasn't a little bit spiteful.
Dangerous. Elyse never considered herself as such but with the word now out in the open between them she could see the vision. Dangerous was a woman unchained and bound only by her moral compass. What good that did her in the sea of piranhas that made up their city, many of which were in attendance of that evening’s benefit. While she enjoyed the praise Beryl gave her the blonde pursed her lips in contemplation. It was clear that she had shown her naivety. Thinking that she could get away with running an unbiased news outlet while surrounded by corruption and temptation was a fantasy. “A girl can dream.” She concluded deciding to not allow herself to reveal anything as deep as she already had.
After all she didn’t know the man at her side, who he was, or why he was there. All she knew was that he held sway and that certainly intrigued her.
The male’s comment about trouble was all she needed to slip back into the moment. “You look like you can handle trouble.” Was she being a bit flirtatious, of course, if it helped sell the illusion she’d lean into the bit. It would appear that Beryl was equally committed to it seeing as he quickly took the roll of doting date very seriously. Blush bloomed across Elyse’s cheeks and dusted her collarbone as his easy smile fell into place. Coupled with how gingerly he tucked a runaway curl back into place almost had the woman believing that they weren’t complete strangers. Pressed firmly against his side Elyse would smile content with how her ex gawked at the pair.
While Eric’s venom had been manufactured for Elyse the male turned his attention to her date who had taken a serious stab at the fledgling’s ego. "Grovel, for her forgiveness?" He chuckled darkly, "As if." It took everything within the woman to not react to such a blatant act of disrespect. Had three years truly meant nothing?
Crimson began to bleed into the irises of the vampire as he attempted to contain himself. With a flash of fang he'd tilt his head to the side, "And who the fuck are you exactly? Evangeline's not mentioned you, so you're not as important as you think you are."
Taken aback by Eric's hostility and the new canine's he was sporting Elyse would lean a bit more heavily into Beryl's side. She wasn't so much frightened as she was appalled at the manner in which he was spoken to. She knew better than to interject on his behalf, though her tongue stung from biting back the vitriol that wanted to break free from her larynx.
As tension brewed she began to analyze the situation in a different light as pieces of the puzzle snapped into place. The sudden break up, the changing of long-term staff, all the way down to Eric's pale and sickly appearance. Could something so fantastical be true though? Surely there was more to the story at hand.

Lorcan was close enough. He was always close enough. Despite the worst of all their issues with that other pack supposedly being over, he still worried.
"A threat?" Lor said, coming out from where he'd initially been to give the pair, now trio, some space to reunite. "I hardly think so." The smile was certainly forced and his jaw was quite certainly clenched. "Give me some credit, El. I can take ghosts, remember?" His tone wasn't threatening, but he was sure to make sure the hunter knew he wasn't afraid of him.
The fact was, the only reason he'd not taken Ethan to the ground yet was the reptilian man who seemed to be attached to him. This Robin seemed nice enough. He wasn't sure he bought the whole story, not from Ethan's side anyway. In his experience, hunters were crafty. It wouldn't the first time another supernatural creature was taken advantage of. But for El's and Robin's sake, he'd give him the fairest shot he could muster. The skewed comment wasn't helping the hunter any right now.
He held out a hand, being polite. "Lorcan."
Luckily for everyone involved, Robin stepped in first, ignoring the hand and going straight in for a hug. "M' Robin! Wow! You're warmer than Ethan!!!" The snake grinned. "El, you sure don't need a heater!!"
Lor awkwardly patted Robin's back in a half hug, rather taken aback. "He always this much of a hugger?" He asked.
Elyse knew Lorcan wasn't far he never really was, not with how clumsily human and accidentally reckless she could be. When he revealed himself the woman couldn't help the flutter in her abdomen at the sight of her boyfriend. She truly never though that feeling of would go away, it certainly wasn't now that he was on high alert. He had every right to be on guard with Ethan. El was familiar with Lor's past, how hunters had taken everything from him. Knowing that her brother was one and the same as those who took the life of her partner's mother didn't leave a good taste in her mouth. Could she trust Ethan?
Elyse had never doubted Lorcan's ability but could see how her jest had landed on the side of seriousness rather than humor. "How could I forget?" She kept her tone light despite her own defensive stance. Arms crossed over her chest she'd look between Lor and Ethan to see if Ethan would take the wolf's hand.
The hunter watched as the werewolf approached them materializing from the shadows of the treeline. "Another ghost hunter?" Ethan would state in reference to his first meeting with Robin. How ironic.
It was apparent that the man was being pleasant for Elyse's sake his body language betraying his smile. The hunter took the man in as if he was sizing him up. He recognized that Lorcan wasn't someone to toe with. He would be a tough match if it came down to it. Ethan hoped it wouldn't.
He hadn't come home to shed blood. He merely wanted to make amends for his absence and to introduce Elyse to Robin. The snake meant a lot to him, and he didn't want to keep him a secret from his family. Before he could take Lorcan's hand Robin pounced, wrapping the wolf in a tight embrace. While Ethan knew Robin could handle himself he couldn't help the tendril of fear that wiggled down his spine at the idea that the other supernatural could mistake his gesture as an affront. Instead it would seem it was taken with grace as the question of Robin's touchiness came into play.
"I do not, got my own personal one right here." Elyse responded to Robin with a smile. There were many benefits to dating a werewolf, but one of her favorites was the built in warmth.
"Robin is very much a hugger, he'd crawl inside your skin if you let 'em." Ethan stated waiting his turn to offer his hand to the other.
Outside the club, Errol was sequestered away in the parking lot, smoking to try and alleviate the feeling of being overwhelmed by the party raging inside. He intended to return once he had finished off his cigarette, but just needed a moment to himself. Just as he blew out the last plume of smoke and put the remnants of the butt out in an ash tray provided above a trash bin in the designated smoking area, he heard the sound of a familiar voice swearing over by the exit of the building.
Turning to see Elyse on the ground, Errol quickly ran over to make sure she was okay. "Elyse, what happened?" he asked, kneeling down to check on her. She was laughing, so he hoped that was a good sign, but she still seemed to be hurt from the fall.
"Darling, how much have you been drinking?" he asked, realizing she must have lost balance on her way out. "Weren't Kehlani and Iylah supposed to be keeping an eye on you?" He frowned, realizing the other girls must have gotten distracted.
"Never mind that. Looks like you took a tumble, hmm?" With a sigh, he looped one arm under hers, putting a hand on her back, while holding the other out for her to take so he could pull her to her feet while giving her something to lean on so she wouldn't have to put weight on her apparently injured ankle. "Let's get you back to the bus so I can take a better look at you and assess the damage."
It was as if the universe had a way of giving Elyse exactly what she wanted, but never how she wanted it. She had been laughing off her tumble when her savior appeared, his halo of golden locks flooding her vision as he crouched down to examine her. There were a lot of questions asked in succession the one she focused on though was the male's inquiry of how much she'd been drinking.
Giggling she'd make the hand gesture of 'a little bit' by pinching her thumb and pointer finger together knowing that was mostly the truth. It didn't take much for her to feel the effects of alcohol and she had been offered a few shots through out the evening that didn't seem to pair well to the mixed drink she had ordered.
Errol's question about where Kehlani and Iylah were had her blinking up at him. "I don't know." Frowning she'd try very had to think of where she had seen them last. Somewhere in the V.I.P. lounge she had lost Iylah, Kehlani she couldn't remember the last time she'd seen her.
It seemed the question was more rhetorical than anything because Errol was already trying to pick her up from her spot on the ground. The way she was feeling she could have sat there a bit longer to keep the sky from spinning.
Taking his outstretched hand she would allow him to assist her in standing and muttered something unintelligible about her heels being too wobbly. It took a solid moment for the journalist to find her footing, but once she found it she was able to slowly amble towards the bus with the rock star's support. Balanced precariously on Errol as they made their way back she'd allow her eyes to wander up to his handsome face seeing as he was the one steering them in the right direction. "I was try'n to find you. I didn't wanna be in there anymore." She confessed with a goofy grin, " 'Side's Dustin was being mean - and everyone else kinda disappeared." She didn't blame the others for ditching her she wasn't cut out for this sort of scene. Dancing she could do, it was the partying aspect - the drugs, alcohol and sex that Elyse just couldn't keep up with. Tonight was no exception.
(🌑) - A memory they'd rather not think of. - Eden
Any minute her father would walk through the front door lay his uniform cap down on the entranceway table and open his arms for Eden to jump into. Everyday like clockwork the girl would wait for her dad, sitting on the edge of the steps that led to the second story. It was safe there on the steps out of her quarreling brothers way, and out of the path of her mother, whose neuroticism made it a mortal sin to leave marks on the wooden floor.
She hadn’t a clue how long she sat there on the steps waiting, but the sun was almost set. The light coming in through the curtains had dwindled to an eerie glow allowing shadows to form and creep along the side wall.
Her twin brothers had stormed down and up the stairs numerous times badgering their mother about when dinner would be served. Everytime the matriarch shooed them out of the kitchen telling them they couldn’t eat until their father got home. By the third time Eden could hear the unease in her mother’s tone.
The house phone rang once, twice, three times before it was answered. Zachary was the one who had gotten to it his voice loud and clear as it rang out from the second floor landing. “MOM PHONE!”
A quiet hush fell upon the household as the call was picked up on the kitchen phone. Eden couldn’t make out the conversation but the clatter of the receiver banging against the wall jolted her from her curious thoughts.
The next few moments were both crystal clear and a blur.
A blood curdling scream sounded from the kitchen. Zach flew down the stairs Oliver on his heels to investigate the reasoning. Following behind them Eden stood in the kitchen doorway eyes wide at the sight of her mom crumpled on the floor sobbing. Oliver hung back not quite the caring type. It was Zach who knelt down next to the weeping woman and asked her what had happened.
Through shuddering breaths and not so many words the truth was revealed to them. Their father was never coming home again.
