suffering and hurting doesn't necessarily make us stronger or better. sometimes all that pain is so intense that it hinders our progress and blinds us to the point we forget who we really are. sometimes all that pain? is just pain.
you don't have to glorify your hurt. you don't have to make it useful or pretty. it is okay to let it go. just because you have the ability to endure it it doesn't mean you should have to.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am seven
and my reply is
pink
because i am a girl
and pink
is a princess color.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am ten
and i like
green
because a boy told me that pink
is lame and girly.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am thirteen
and i tell them
purple
it is unique and spunky
like i want to be.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am seventeen
and i just say
red
i do not say
it is bright and angry at the world
as i am
i cannot form the words to express
all of my frustrations
so i paint my lips with
rage.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am twenty
and it’s pink
i remember the joy
of being a child
i reclaim the freedom
of femininity
because i cannot remember
what my shoulders felt like
before the depression
hung from them.
i am asked about my favorite color.
i am twenty-six
and my answer is
brown
it confuses most people
they don’t see it
they may think of dirt
and dust
and dead things
but it is coffee with friends
and the chocolate chip cookies
my mom used to make.
it is my hair
and my eyes
amber and gold
in the sun
and i love myself
again
You survived the trauma, you will survive the recovery
Seeing unhealthy patterns in your family and deciding that those pattens end with you and will not be passed down to future generations is an extremely brave and powerful decision.
Forgive yourself for repeating what was taught to you as a child, then put the conscious effort into deprogram these patterns.
I think it's one of my most powerful, beautiful and important attributes as a person.

do not be ashamed...
...of something that you have SUFFERED through. be sure to know the difference between what you have caused and has been done to you by someone else or in an untoward situation.
if you have gone through tough times which were out of your control at that time, it was not your fault. you need not beat yourself up for it. you are the brave heart who made through some difficult times! be proud. be you ✨

to the one reading this...
...your value is in every breath you take, every sip of water you drink and every smile on your face.
don't let your worth be judged on the basis of someone or something else for they/it may not even know the real you.
you are much more than the part of yourself you show to the outside world. you have so much more awesomeness hidden inside. believe in your worth ✨
Let us normalise talking about mental health. Let us normalise feeling shitty and not okay. Let us normalise the fact that everyone goes through bad days. We should not hide, we should not pretend to be okay, we should not feel guilty when our mental health is not at a hundred per cent. It is normal and therefore we should normalise it. Mental health is a health issue, not a taboo topic. We should all be able to express our emotions, to say when we are not doing okay, to seek help from family, friends and professionals. It is about time that we realise that struggling with mental health does not make us attention seekers, does not make us weak, does not make us hopeless cases. In fact, pulling yourself through difficult times, being there for yourself and holding on despite the pain are signs of incredible strength which should be acknowledged. We. Need. To. Talk. About. It. NOW.
All my life I have been trying to fit in; to feel, to be normal, but every time I ended up feeling more alien than ever before. I started comparing myself, feeling worthless, like everyone has made so much progress but me; like everyone has had so much success but me. I tried so hard to take up space when I was alone, but always ended up feeling small when there were people around. I wish I could say that since then I have grown, that I have healed and this has never happened again. But the truth is I am not alive because I have overcome this mess of emotions, I am alive despite feeling it all the time. And even though I haven’t healed completely, I am proud of and I take pride in the fact that I have survived, for it shows that even the in the darkest of nights when it was me against my mind - I won. And here I am, I might be bruised, I might be hurting, but I am still alive.
— To live is to suffer
(Inspired by Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library)
A lot of people (including myself) say things like "things will get better" quite often. But to be completely honest, sometimes they won't. Things might not get better. And while that can seem like a really negative statement, it's important to remember that things might not get better but you will get stronger. You will be better at handling things. So, even if things don't get better, you will get through it and you will be okay 💛
“Why do I even try to impress you if I know that I’ll never be enough? Why do I tell you things if I know that you don’t really care? Why do I talk to you if I know that all you’re going to say is ‘k’? Why do I love you if I know that you’ll never love me?”
— Sarn
