Got a new job (finally woot woot thank god) but like… coming to this after retail is making me lowkey insane about the state of the workforce and minimum wage jobs and work expectations. Like. A huge chunk of this job so far is desk warming. Truly so much of it. And it’ll definitely get busier as I continue but. Rn I spend so much time sitting and looking busy. Years in a job where I couldn’t sit down on the clock and got scolded for chatting during downtime, and now I’ve spent most of my day working on one ppt presentation and talking to my coworkers. And this job pays me more. Used to see people on here with office jobs talking about how they write fanfic on the clock and I was always like how are you able to do that, aren’t you being micromanaged? When does your work get done? Not in a judgey holier than thou way, to be clear (everyone who writes fanfic on the clock ily ily ilysm<3), but just out of total logistical confusion. But now it’s like, yeah. I could be writing fanfic rn. I could be planning a weekend trip. My desk is in a corner and I have privacy screens, I could just sit there on my phone. My coworker and I just dipped for a bit this morning to go get coffee, not during an official break, not after informing anyone, just at random. And as long as our work gets done on time no one cares. And this job pays me more. I’m going to go crazy.

King Arthur Flour is getting boycotted—after conservatives discover it has a baking program for people of color

King Arthur Baking Company is coming under fire for holding a competition exclusively for people of color-owned businesses and brands.

According to the company’s website, “Baking Pitchfest 2024” offers a product edition geared toward baking brands founded and owned by people of color across the U.S., and a bakery edition, which focuses on people of color-owned bakeries in the Northeast and Washington state. “Half mentorship, half competition, Baking Pitchfest is an accelerator program designed to foster greater inclusivity and creativity in the baking world by providing equitable opportunities for People of Color entrepreneurs,” the website states, adding that winners will receive financial support, mentorship, and exposure. But the initiative has generated outrage amongst conservatives online, who have blasted the competition eligibility rules as discriminatory against white people.

One X user critical of King Arthur Baking’s contest posted an email she received from the company in response to her complaining. “Helping build joyful, equitable communities that celebrate diversity is an important part of who we are as a company,” the email states, later adding: “We love baking with anyone and everyone. Our simple expectation is that everyone show respect for one another.”

if you're not from the us american south, there's some amazing nuances to this you may have missed. i can't really describe all of them, because i've lived here my whole life and a lot of the body language is sort of a native tongue thing. the body language is its own language, and i am not so great at teaching language. i do know i instinctively sucked on my lower teeth at the same time as he did, and when he scratched the side of his face, i was ready to take up fucking arms with him.
