This has been in the works for a long while, and HERE IT FINALLY IS!! My fanart / ‘cover art’ for @ivyontheholodeck‘s fic Something Wretched About This.

I read that story a while ago and I loved it so much and it made me so happy that I wanted to paint something based on it. It has wonderful characterizations of the Good Omens cast, delightful OC’s, a feelsy and exciting storyline and a genius twist on the Good Omens lore. (And if you read it you’ll probably recognize some easter eggs in the art, just sayin’) Anyway, working on this painting has just been delightful!

I’ve basically been staring at this in awe and amazement for the last week, oh my god, if this isn’t the most beautiful art I have ever seen 😍😭😍the lighting!!! the details!!! the expressions!!! I am WEAK

So. Tyr, my dog, is a Great Pyraneese. This is important because this breed is known to be smart. Not in the way a German Shepherd or border Collie is smart, and wanting to please a human; Great Pyrs are independent minded and bred to Be Management of herds when a human might not be around.

Anyway.

It has been very pleasant out. We had the windows cracked and left them cracked when we went to work. This has never been an issue before.

My darling spouse was working on a job in a small town about a mile from our place. He was getting some stuff from the work van when he sees a large white dog prancing along.

"Huh." He thinks. "That looks an awful lot like.....TYR WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE."

Tyr, delighted that she has Found Father, bounds up happily and gets in the work van to give face kisses.

"GIRL NO WHAT." Kev says, scrambling to go let the client know that he has to take the fucking criminal back home real quick.

Turns out she discovered that a window can be shoved open with a determined snoot, and a window screen is not as strong as 80 pounds of muscular dog. And went for an adventure.

I got a call at this point while I was doing payroll.

"BABE WE NEED TO BABY GATE ALL THE FUCKING WINDOWS." My spouse says.

"....okay??" I say, and then get the story. I swore a bunch.

Anyway my dog is a criminal escape artist and we have to baby proof the fucking windows now

My mom thinks this is the funniest thing ever because I, Age 11, discovered I could remove window screens to climb out my window and climb the house roof to stargaze, which nearly gave her a heart attack when she looked out a window when hearing a noise and saw her fucking child squirreling around on the roof.

"Like mother like daughter" she texted me and then about 20 laughing emojis in a row

I just had an argument with someone who was like “why would we settle for food stamps when we could have universal basic income?”

And it’s just like. People need food right now you know.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Hippie church moms donating quinoa chips to my local food bank have done more for me materially than any internet idealist ever has.

People get pissed at me for being a pragmatist in my political ideals but I’ve been in the position where I was out of food right now.

And who helped me with that? Not people calling for some nebulous revolution. Not people telling me that the system was useless. Not people preaching at me to grow my own food. It was a church food bank partially funded by the state of Texas that some southern hippies donated a bunch of Whole Foods nonsense to.

And you know what? I’m sick and tired of defeatism. What can we get done right now, huh? Are you gonna accept something a bit better to help people right now or are you waiting for your perfect utopia to come to you?

Yeah, UBI is better than the quinoa chips. Sure. But right now the quinoa chips are stopping people from going hungry and if all we can do is get the food bank quinoa chips to more people, then I say so be it. That’s something. I’ll almost always take baby steps over nothing.

ridiculous idea that won't leave my head: in the game changers universe Ilya is responsible for the "we all owe our lives to wemon" tweet.

in my mind it's international women's day and he goes to the club with Svetlana and he's grinding up on her and she jokingly says something like "wow Ilya Rozanov grinding on girls without asking? on international women's day?" and she was, I stress this, fully joking and Ilya knows it but he is drunk and drunk Ilya is a himbo and he starts posting shit on main like "happy international women's day to all beautufk ldies. because all ladies ar ebeustufl. love women. it is so sad that womenhave to deal with period pain. why we have not fixed this yet? @nasa @science" in this great long drunken-typo-riddled thread that goes viral because it's hilarious and stupid and also kind of sweet. anyway the final tweet in the thread is "woman come number one!!! we all owe our lives to wemon" and then after that Svetlana finally takes his phone. Within the week t shirts start popping up that day "we all owe our lives to wemon". Ilya buys one and donates several thousand dollars to a women's shelter
