I have a few questions. Are people still fighting after what Kevin Fall's said (even he admitted Fox made a mistake with scheduling) How many signatures do we need on the petition for networks to pay attention. Do you think Pitch will get picked up
I don’t know what it takes a network to pay attention. I like to believe that we started work on the renewal efforts before anyone else. I still remember our Star Pitch @alwayskels expressing concerns on renewal in an around the the 106-107 aired and she got the ball rollling. We put in a lot more zeal than other fandoms did, even though I know that Pitch’s fandom is not as organized as others, I don’t know any fandom that sent this much snail mail and post cards.
Nonetheless, Fox fucked us over.
We are still fighting Anon and you are most welcome to join.
NBC had the sense to listen to their fans. Never have I heard of a reversal of a cancellation in my life and yet Timeless’ cancellation got reversed. (No, I neither like nor watch the show). This has given us a lot of hope. Even if Fox doesn’t renew (and the way they handled the show’s marketing, scheduling, and their Amelia baby mama drama plans for S2 - I frankly feel Fox didn’t deserve the show, anyway) we know that other networks might be interested.
We know Someone at Hulu paid attention, that gives us hope too.
My heroes @pitchstreetteam are focusing efforts on Hulu and Netflix and they have restructured the campaign into their phase II.
As of now only 55 supporters are needed to complete this petition that we can send to Netflix & Hulu.
I agree with Kelci that finding a home for the show on the MLB network is a long shot, but if another network gets on board MLB’s endorsement goes a long way for them to maintain production quality.
Now, here are my personal opinions. I had a morbid fear that Fox would not renew the show from after 110 aired onwards.I have the exact opposite feeling about Pitch’s renewal.
I believe, like I’ve never believed that Pitch will find a new home.
That’s why I’m done with tumblr posting, putting fanfic writing on hold and getting everyone I know in RL to help with the PickUpPitch campaign.
A lot of fans have sat back and done nothing. In fact I have observed a lot of people who just pander and pontificate about Pitch Tumblr but haven’t lifted a finger to help in the renewal. That’s fine. In all of history, it was a small group of people with a unified thought, mind and heart that ended up upsetting the most powerful regimes. I support the @pitchstreetteam and I have faith in them.
Finally, I always remember this: Star Trek (TOS) was cancelled. It was fans, conventions and people petitioning in the era before twitter, tumblr and the friggin’ INTERNET. Star Trek was a game changer. In the time it aired, they were the first series representing POCs properly. In the post cold war era, it was alluding to a time where earth would be at peace with having a Chinese (Sulu), Russian (Chekov) officers on Bridge. Above all they had Uhura as a senior bridge officer, a black woman in a time when women in commanding military roles were unheard off.
Look! Look! It doesn’t stop! They’re lined up all the way down the street! —Norman Lunenfeld, NBC executive, on the mail trucks delivering Star Trek fans’ letters
And now an announcement of interest to all viewers of Star Trek. We are pleased to tell you that Star Trek will continue to be seen on NBC Television. We know you will be looking forward to seeing the weekly adventure in space on Star Trek. —NBC announcer, March 1, 1968
NBC—which used such anecdotes in much of its publicity for the show—made the unusual decision to announce on television, after the episode “The Omega Glory” on March 1, 1968, that the series had been renewed. The announcement implied a request to stop writing, but instead caused fans to send letters of thanks in similar numbers.
^ This is inspires me for Pitch.
I always reiterate that in addition to representing women properly, Pitch also represents good men. It is important for us in this time and age to believe in that. Because of a handful of idiots in power, we are forgetting that males are as vital to the cause of feminism as females. our sons, our brothers and husbands need to see that it’s not unmanly to regard a woman as their equal. Mike Lawson, Blip Sanders, Oscar Araguella they are vital to that.
They also represent the concept of a man’s orthodox opinion changing. The fact that Al transforms from her biggest detractor to her Yoda. That Miller went from grouchy Gremlin to Ginny’s bestie. It shows us hate, spite and antagonism is not the way.
Yeah Mike Lawson is a human disaster, but despite everything he’s a good, honorable man who stood up for his Rookie. He probably is protecting her career by running away from her into (bleah!) Amelias and Rachels. His lonely heart deserves a season 2 so he can find love with our beautiful and loving Ginny Baker.
So if you want to help Anon, please do! I’m quoting @pitchstreetteam now:
We did notice during the height of the #KeepHerInTheGame campaign that a lot of the same people were helping out with the renewal efforts. We greatly appreciate those people’s time and resources!! We couldn’t have done ANY of what we accomplished without the amazing dedication of you guys! But right now need more help than EVER. We need numbers to get Hulu/Netflix’s attention. If we want to be as happy as the Timeless fandom is right now we need everyone pulling their weight. Now that the show is cancelled it seems that perhaps we have even less help than we had before which can be a little disheartening.
We hope that we can keep inspiring hope and faith that we can make a difference in you guys. Cause we truly believe that together we can get Pitch a new home. We’re not just telling you that cause the cancellation hurts. Things are changing, precedents are being set. The political climate in America is getting more intense than ever and we NEED Ginny Baker. And another platform will be able to see that.
Anyway, back on topic - we LOVE Pitch and losing it was a hard blow to take. We know y'all are sad and mad (smad). We are too. It’s like we were pushed right in the stomach and it HURTS. But, we aren’t ready to give up yet. We need to see this through. We need to know that we did absolutely everything in our power. But we cannot do it alone. A baseball team can’t win if just a handful out of the team are playing the game. Same with us.
