an open letter to ace people, from a homoromantic ace

you are not lgbt solely for being ace. you do not need to be lgbt. the lgbt community is not yours, you are not a part of it if you don’t feel same-gender attraction or gender dysphoria. you may feel you share oppression with the community, but it doesn’t make you part of it. the lgbt community is a safe space for those who are discriminated against for sga or having gender dysphoria. let’s refrain from forcing ourselves where we don’t belong. i’m seeing this from both sides of the discourse, i know how it feels to be ace and also feel sga, and i don’t think asexual people are lgbt solely for being ace. it gives every ace a bad look if you try to force yourself in with “but what about aces???? uwuwuwu” and “don’t forget ace people!11;1111!!!!” on different lgbt positivity posts. let’s stick to aven.

I mean not only is he an amazing person

but diversity is so deeply ingrained into his storytelling that he not only has had multiple LGBTQ and POC characters but has placed them in prominent and important positions??????

Like when’s the last time you watched a TV show where the badass gang boss is explicitly nonbinary? Or when The Reaper is a tall Black man with dreadlocks? (Edit: I have been informed that Kravitz is not canonically Black so instead let’s appreciate Lucretia that is all thank you for coming to my ted talk). In a single line of exposition “So how old were you when Lup transitioned?” he created an inspirational icon for trans listeners. Her character arc wasn’t about her being trans, it was just a fact of life, and it didn’t stop her from kicking. The Hunger’s. Ass. Want a wlw vampire cryptid? Griffin’s got your back!! Fuck, even Roswell? I’ve never seen a nonbinary non-human character before and I think that speaks worlds as to just how much Griffin McElroy has done for natural diversity.

Tl;dr, we don’t deserve Griffin McElroy but I sure as FUCK am glad we have him. Bless you Griffy.
