Name three (or more) things you're mad about, AND something you can do toward solving at least one.

Some things people I know and I have done:

Go to a protest; help progressives WHO WILL FIGHT FOR PEOPLE get elected at the local/state level; join an activism group; build community; donate time/money/resources; skill-share things like sewing, woodworking, and making bread from scratch; start a community garden; make art that protests what you're mad about; call your elected officials as often as possible and remind them that THEY WORK FOR YOU, and people who SUCK AT THEIR JOBS do not get to KEEP THEIR JOBS

I just released a song called Crushed. It's a protest song against ICE. The featured artist, Isa, is a literal sunshiny folk singer (of the folk duo Ferns and Fiddleheads), and she's pissed off enough about having Gestapo in our streets that she was down to sing a punk song. The incredible album art was done by Nasirah Dupont and the song was recorded at The Proving Ground.

Crushed is out everywhere, but BandCamp is the best way to buy it. Half of all proceeds will go to the Amor Network in Providence; they head up the Deportation Defense Hotline [phone] so if ICE shows up, people can call and get help from community organizers (and the community in general).

Saw a shirt that said:

"SLAVERY is white history

It's even more pungent when you remember that white people wrote a clause in the 13th Amendment so that slavery is legal as long as the people you're enslaving are incarcerated for a crime. Also today's American police force evolved from runaway slave patrols. The system is not broken. The system was designed by white supremacists and it is functioning exactly as it was intended to function.

I once heard someone say, “If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal.” But why would they? Why would they make voting illegal when they could just make it legal to bribe a politician? That's exactly what was done in 1976 in the Buckley vs. Valeo Supreme Court case. It was decreed that campaign contributions were “free speech,” and could therefore not be limited. Why make something illegal when you can simply make it ineffective?

Unchecked capitalism paves the way for fascism. But plutocracy is certainly a stepping stone along the way. I've seen a few folks say that we're now an oligarchy, and while we have some oligarchal leanings (like oh, I don't know, a reality TV star and failed businessman being able to become president, not that that'd ever happen right y'all?), democracy was replaced with plutocracy in 1976. I was born in the States, and I've never experienced actual democracy here. And since Tumblr is more popular amongst millennials and younger, odds are that YOU HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED ACTUAL DEMOCRACY HERE EITHER. Fyi, the range of birth years of gen X is roughly 1965-1980, so even the people born in 1965 (the first gen X-ers) weren't more than 12 (TWELVE) when this happened (and I'm rounding up).

It’s actually pretty nuts how there is no real mass media coverage of the protests that are happening all over the US. It demonstrates fairly conclusively that the unlawful activities at the White House aren’t just limited to Trump. There’s a lot of wealthy people in powerful positions in the US and around the world helping to support the dismantling of the US federal government.
