(aka Val hurts her son just because)

It was not a great day- Understatement of the century. It was, in words Davey would get smacked for, a shitty day. He quietly worked his way through school as usual, but he'd been chastised thoroughly in class for answering something incorrectly, something he would've had in the bag on a regular day, and stammered through a 'group' presentation, one he'd singlehandedly completed in between cramming sessions. Worst of all, he had to suffer through half his exams by gritting his teeth and rapidly blinking away the dark spots swimming on the edges of his vision.

Basically, Davey was miserably ill and couldn't afford to stay home from school. His inevitably bad scores would be better than missing the tests and failing automatically, but he felt awful about that anyways. (He felt awful in general, with migraines, a raspy cough, a borderline fever, and enough fatigue to take down an elephant. ) Selling evening papes would have to wait, because he had to spend that precious time studying for tomorrow's exams. He sent Les off to the distribution window with a tired wave, hunkering down in his room and continuing his revisions. Hopefully, Davey was still coherent enough to get something done, but he could feel himself start to nod off. All he had to do was... Was...
