Sweater Weather/Coast to Coast/Hazelnoot Discord Server FAQ
Edit: updated 10JAN2023 16:00EST
1. What is Discord?
Discord is a social media platform. It’s like a strange combination of Reddit and Zoom with a sprinkle of Steam. If you've ever used Slack for work, it's nearly identical with a few more bells and whistles. Discord is broken up by independently created, private servers where people of similar interests can connect. We’ve made a SW/C2C/Hazelnoot server to yell about all things @lumosinlove.
2. How does Discord work?
The closest thing I can compare it to is Reddit or an online forum. It’s discussion-based. We talk about current events, hockey, the gay agenda, what we’ve got going on in our personal lives, and, of course, Hazel and her works. Discord itself will take some getting used to but the learning curve isn’t too steep and you’ll always have admins/mods and the friendly resident hazelnoots to guide you through.
3. How do I join?
Right now we're tentatively closed to new members. (But keep reading! Not all hope is lost!) About two years ago, it was brought to our (the admins & mods) attention that we needed to do some serious reevaluating of the server, rules, and expectations. We've been working on making the server a happier and healthier place for everyone. During our rebuild period we wanted to reduce as many variables as possible so we decided to temporarily close the server to new members. Recently, we've started slowly adding new members. So if you're interested in joining, message me here on Tumblr and I’ll either send you an invite link or perhaps add you to a wait-list depending on the volume of invite requests we're getting at a given time. As of late, the volume of new member requests has been minimal enough that there isn't currently a wait-list.
4. Can you post a public invite link?
At this time, we are not posting public invite links. This doesn't mean it might not happen in the future. We're just trying to be kind to our admins/mods and moderate the amount of new people joining st a given time.
5. Why do I have to message you in order to get an invite link?
The Hazelnoot server is huge. I was a young, naive Cap when I started the server. I thought there were only going to be 30ish people. I was wildly incorrect. (Think 10x incorrect.) We aren’t gatekeeping or trying to keep people away; everyone who enjoys Hazel’s content is welcome! Just by asking people to pm me for a link is a very easy way of slowing the flow of new people down. It acts as a sort of speed bump so we don’t have people joining the server en masse and overwhelming admins and mods. Every time we have tried posting a public link, we've gotten slammed. So, speed bump pm it is. With that being said, I'm never bothered by people asking for invite links! I always get excited when there's a new message from someone looking to join!
6. How do I get the invite link if I don't have a Tumblr or a Discord?
Make a Tumblr and message me or have a friend who has a Tumblr message me.
7. My invite link expired! What do I do?
Just message me again. I’ll send you an active link no questions asked. I’ve had to send someone five different invite links because they kept expiring before they had the chance to join.
8. My friend is obsessed with Hazel’s work too and they don’t have a Tumblr. Can I have a link?
Yes! Message me :)
9. I’ve joined the server but I can’t comment anywhere. What’s wrong with my account?
Nothing! Post in the “introductions” channel and use the pinned template for your introduction. From there one of the admins or mods will sort you into your roles and you’ll be able to start interacting in the server! (Please make a pit stop at the rules channel too. There’s lots of good info there that can answer a lot of your server-based questions.) If you aren't able to post in introductions, message me here on Tumblr or in the #feedback channel in the server.
10. I’ve joined the server but I’m nervous about interacting.
This isn’t so much a question but SO MANY people message me with this. If you’re uncomfortable commenting, lurking is totally okay! (Please do at least post in introductions though.) If you want to engage but just have a lot of fear surrounding it, yeet that fear into the bin! We’re a little (k)nutty but I promise we’re good beans. Be gentle with yourself and don’t push yourself too hard!! A lot of people who are now regulars in the chats used to be very anxious about engaging.
