My therapist just told me my problem is that I need to write more fanfiction.

This sounds fake but the logic behind it is actually really interesting? She said obsession with a new fandom triggers quick dopamine release when we consume all this related content--it's easy and addictive.

What we're NOT getting is that 'slow dopamine' that's more sustainable and engaging. That's the kind we get from DOING things that take effort but are ultimately rewarding.

So like, she suggested that writing fic and making fanart are ways to balance the quick dopamine of watching a show/reading fic with the slow dopamine of working at something that takes effort.

Moral of the story is you should engage in the process of creation around your favorite things. You'll feel better for it.

The only thing keeping me going is the 1989 broadway production of into the woods.

Let me tell y’all the story of the first (and last) time I played a bard.

So I was playing a one shot with some of my cousins and I had put together a bard in the college of eloquence, modeled after the one and only @joehills

And there came a point where the party had to break a guy out of prison. So the party told me to distract the guard while they work busting the geezer out. Problem is, while my bard is a master wordsmith who can pull a speech or rhyme out of anywhere, I am not. So I really struggled to think of anything to say while my teenage cousins yelled all matter of pickup lines at me. I eventually managed to remember the classic line “are you from Tennessee? Cause you’re the only 10 I see” except I only remembered half of it and blurted out “you’re the Tennessee!”. And then I rolled an 8 for performance. So needless to say the guard was not impressed.

Then my sister, playing a tabaxi named soup in a studded leather bikini, effortlessly slid into the conversation and seduced the guard, leaving my bard to pay bail.

In my defense, my bard’s charisma was meant for confusing and bamboozling, but alas, it was I who was bamboozled.
