Short description of each being below:
Basilisk - A basilisk that suddenly appeared in the wharf cellars of Utrecht, and terrorized the place until it was slain.
Bloedende Wind - A phenomenon that happened in Lopik, where a farmer would stab the wind as an attempt to calm a storm, and then noticed blood dripping down his pitchfork.
Bullebak - Spirit that lived in the water and drowned people who got too close.
Gries Gat - Ugly grey spectre animal with long ears.
IJzeren Veulen - A spectre foal that was so strong it could easily kill people by bashing into them, hence it's named 'ijzeren' (iron). Another reason for the name was that it was filled with iron and its joints sounded like rusty hinges.
Laakmannetje - Name of a light that would appear above the river Laak.
Nachtmerrie - Dutch name for nightmare.
Ouwe Beer - The ghost of a farmer who stole land from his neighbours. He usually appears as a small light but could also transform into a large, rolling flame and chase people in this form.
Pikkepoot - A being in Wilnis that kidnapped children if they behaved badly.
Reus - Dutch name for giant. One created the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
Ridder Koenraad - The ghost of a terrible knight named Koenraad. One night he fell into the moat of castle De Haar and drowned. He haunted the place with his fiery horse until the castle was rebuilt.
Schaatsende Duivel - Sometimes, when people went ice skating at night, they'd notice a dark figure chasing them, which led to them thinking the devil followed them. But it was actually just their own shadow.
Stalkaarsen - Will o' wisps.
Tienuurshond - Spectre hound that would always appear around ten o' clock in the evening.
't Uiltje - A light that was frequently seen in De Bilt.
Waterwolf - A creature with the head of a wolf and the body of a fish. It lived in the waters near Tienhoven.
Weerwolf - Dutch name for werewolf.
Witte Juffer - Name for ghostly women. One Witte Juffer roamed around castle Beverweerd. Usually she just stalked people, but sometimes she also killed them.
Witte Wieven - Similar to Witte Juffers, but almost always found in or nearby forests, and usually seen in groups. They also weren't as dangerous as Witte Juffers.
