gordon night.... porlock night.... something something alightttt anyways.

uhhh lemme be clear. first gordon on the left there is the result of photobashing which is actually so much harder than i remember it being but then again i was doing it for like landscapes in an art class so it's easier to pass off a weird looking tree i feel. also fun little tidbit one of my roommates said she imagined gordon as beloved youtuber garrett watts but i could not for the life of me incorporate the image into my mind so i ended up using watts' mouth for photobashed gordon. the gord at the end is sorta a mesh between photobashing + regular drawing just to kinda tie everything in yk yk.

the other three gordons are all hand-drawn after that! i kinda wanted to get the idea of him progressively looking happier to sorta tie into the idea that the other characters were implicitly expecting him to be more trusting with them.

red valley seems to leaning heavily into the idea of like you dont really know these people, too. we the audience AND the redval team, they've all built up an idea of who gordon is/was. even aubrey seems to think of herself unconsciously as an expert on who gordon was despite the fact that it's been explicitly said the only time they'd ever been in the same room together was when gordon was dying!

aubrey BUILT gord!! she built him based only off of tapes and small bits of conversation that she's had with him while he was under the stress of 1) trying to make sure warren's okay and 2) trying to get out of redval. gord is only a distant echo of gordon; it's like trying to draw over the same image over and over.

the intial image is who gordon really is childhood backstory and all (which we havent discovered yet!) and the layer that follows becomes the memories of gordon from the people around him while gordon is involved with red valley (which includes warren aubrey grace etc). the layer after that is the tapes that only we the audience know about of gordon. finally, we have gord, who is an amalgamation of only bits and pieces of gordon. it's not even good at being gordon!

it has a personality of it's own and even warren can immediately tell that gord fake, monotone voice aside. and they all get used to gord. the residents love his voice grace talks to gord as a trusted confidant aubrey uses gord as an assistant and in making gord like gordon they begin to unconsciously think of gordon as their friend when they never were!!! grace seems to expect that gordon will be like gord. gord who was partially built off his excitement about the redval project and his friendship with warren. gord who is friendly and nerdy because gordon was friendly and nerdy with warren.

also its been 40 years!! aubrey mentions that their memories become putty for them to build their guilt off of. even with the recordings, there are moments that we the audience will never be privy to that may have revealed even more about him!!!

all in all, gordon is like an onion he has layers. now i know what you must be saying: "nikki shut up you are not the thinker just show us the alternate version" so i will do that. muah.

In the world of Cannibalistic Pigeons, there is little way of stopping someone from being overtaken by their doppelgänger. There's only one confirmed way to stop it, and that involves literally beating them out the person. Otherwise? Once you're past a certain point, there's nothing you can do.

I'm not saying it's broken, I'm saying it's wrong.

I think the one thing that makes me dislike arthur was the way he speaks of Bella, but unfortunately it's incredibly in character. He's almost flippant about her? Like he didn't regret abandoning his wife (or friend rather) in her time of need, he only regretted leaving faroe for an hour? What sucks is that he's shown to have cared about her, since him hearing that she didn't love arthur back seemed to have hurt him; he cared about her opinion enough for that fact to hurt.

Personally, I think maybe he's trying not to think about it, like the guilt from Faroe's death was already enough of a source of stress for his mind. Either way, I'd love to hear more about Bella because God Damn.
