This week I made a visit to Cal Poly’s farm store for the first time. I’ve heard about  it a couple of times, but never got the impression that it was worth visiting. Because of this, my expectations were not that high. Honestly, I wasn’t even planning on taking a trip to the store. The only reason I did was because I missed my exit (don’t ask me how) and I had to jump on the 57 south. When I exited the freeway and was making my way to campus, I saw the sign for the store. I figured since I was nearby and early for class that it would be a great time to check it out. With that being said, I’m glad I did!
As I was walking up to the door, on the left hand side there were several boxes against the window full of both large and small pumpkins. On the right hand side, there were crates full of vegetables like squash and corn; it was very inviting. When I walked the first thing I notices were all of the mason jars along the wall. They had jams and spreads of all sorts of flavors. Most of them are made of fresh ingredients. I actually bought the pumpkin spread and it is delicious! They have all sorts like assorted nuts, candy, fresh produce, hot sauce, flavored honey, and so forth. My favorite item in the store was there pumpkin scented lotion; it smelled amazing and I just about love pumpkin scented/flavored anything.Â
After making my purchase the cashier said to me, “thanks for coming in” and for some reason that stuck with me on my way to my car. I started thinking about the importance helping out our farm store instead of contributing money to large corporate stores like Stater Brothers or Albertsons. It’s not only good for our school, but because the produce is fresh it is also beneficial for us. Overall, I had a great experience and I highly recommend everyone to check it out at least once.
Here’s a picture I took of the pumpkin patch that’s located right outside of the store
