wilde boy is a brand new lit mag dedicated to publishing pieces that explore the Victorian in light of the contemporary. We’re looking for words and art that reference the era in either form or content, represent looked-over identities, discuss not only the upper-class dandy but people of the lower classes, lands outside London, England, Victorian people of color. Send us blackout poems done with permanent marker and Tennyson, flash fiction about professors studying the Brownings, essays on how we look at the Victorians now in classes.

short film compiling dear annie letters to newspapers from the 70s-90s that mention asexuality! there were actually a number of people who talked about their maybe being some kind of ace in these decades and i found it really interesting~ 

on a side note, one of the clips here is from a speech i did a few years ago for class on asexual awareness, and it kind of conflates asexuality with being aromantic kjncznjkzs so ignore that bless

Quick shout out to people on the ace aro spectrum who aren’t cute, innocent little muffins.

Shout out to the ace or aro people who wear thick eyeliner and red lipstick and miniskirts, who are tough and angry and have crew cuts, who want to look promiscuous but don’t want be that, who aren’t approachable and adorable.

Shout out to ace and aro people who have been told they have to be puritanically good in order to be valid. You are allowed to be whoever you want and are allowed to break your stereotype just as much as anyone else.

And it’s asexual awareness week again! Here is a comic I drew last year but never got around to posting. I did this shortly after realising I was ace and all the warm feelings it gave me. I know some people struggle a lot with accepting this part of themselves, but I was just so happy to finally find a place I belonged in, people that actually understood what I felt.

Asexuality and Aromanticism is really something that needs to be talked more about. If I had known that not feeling sexual or romantic attraction was ok, I could have been much happier in the relationships I was in, and potentially have saved one of them thanks to being able to talk about my feelings instead of not understanding them, or I would have allowed myself to say ‘no’ to sex instead of feeling like I had to because i didn’t have a good enough reason to say no to my partner. 

So many things could have turned out differently if I had just known I was ace when I was younger. And that’s why we need asexuality awareness week, and we need it to get bigger.

suggestions for submissions -drawings and comics about being ace/aro -fiction about aro/ace characters -poetry and lyrics -edits and collages  -playlists, photos and photo sets, lists, infographics…

looking specifically for… -personal narratives and essays about being ace/aro -creators who are poc/otherwise diverse -unique types of submissions 

topics to consider -how being aro/ace coincides with religion, race -coming out -representation (and lack of it) in media -self-identity and coming to terms with being aro/ace -aro/ace relationships -moments of pride (alternatively, self doubt)
