David Archuleta - Inside Out
Been playing the whole deluxe version of this Earthly Delights EP ever since seeing David’s AMAZING live performance a month ago, but this song has really been standing out to me lately. The instrumental is sooooo good, and of course his voice is perfect as always.
2. Cascada - If You Could Read My Mind
This is apparently a cover of the 1998 song by Ultra Naté, Amber, and Jocelyn, which itself is a cover of the original folk rock song by Gordon Lightfoot—kinda crazy how a song can transform and live on in another form so many years later, but I get it because this melody is incredible! This song is so catchy and melodic. I understand people clowning on this Cascada album because she kinda commercialized so many classic “sacred” disco hits that even the boldest would hesitate to cover, but she is a great singer and I have been getting my life to the album lately, so idc.
3. MARINA - I <3 YOU
More disco! Those violins in the bridge are everythiiiiiiiiing. I just love how joyful and disco-y this song is! Supposedly she announced a deluxe album coming next Friday, so I’m perched for that!
4. Crystal Kay - レッツすいかどろぼう
I fiiiiinally got into Crystal Kay in a big way this year. I bought a digital version of her new Best Of album and fell in love with this heavily auto-tuned song that she released in 2000 at the age of 14... Like, the vibes of this song are just insanely good already, but to release something like this at such a young age? Crystal PRODIGY Kay...
5. AURORA - The Dark Dresses Lightly
I liked this album when I listened to it last year, but I started listening to it way more this year, then bought the standard edition, and then the deluxe when it came out like a month later LOL: reminder to myself to not buy albums till a deluxe is out... Anyway, this song has a very primal beat and it is just very satisfying. I particularly love the part around 1:50 when her belt becomes the backing vocal/the beat and a new instance of her voice comes in over it as the main voice, OMG!! GAG. Apparently this song is known as both “The Dark Dresses Lightly” and “When the Dark Dresses Lightly” depending on the album version, but I prefer “The Dark Dresses Lightly” because she doesn’t say “when the dark dresses lightly” in the lyrics.
