Day before bday omakase lunch with the brother at newly opened east village hole in the wall @sushi_by_m. 12 courses of oishi. Toro with caviar, uni with wagyu were extra yum. Botan ebi was some some April fool’s foolery but thankfully didn’t trigger the allergies. Big Mac of uni, wagyu and toro was a bite of decadence fit for a birthday. Fun with the staff in what was pretty much a private dining experience. Tuesday 4 mile to Queens for some pinoy food and what turned to be some chicken inasal tasting. The first try at Dang Inasal a Mang Inasal knockoff was too sweet for the taste so it’s 2 doors down at Rosario’s where the ambiance and manok are far more inviting. Meb’s 26 Marathons book arrives and it’s quite inspiring. Coffee and chouqette at the friendly nabe French pastry shop’s back garden. It’s spring but not quite yet. Slow roasted porchetta dinner experiment is a huge success. Skin is super crisp and meat tender and right at medium. Friday night on Broadway for comp orchestra tickets to Gary with Nathan Lane. Saturday long run to Queens and back. Sunday spring cleaning with some help from Aida who’s leaving for Florida so she brought her friend as possibly the next housekeeper. Kaws companions relocated and the home tidied up. And just like that March is done. Back in the burg with an early Tuesday morning stop at the neighborhood apple store to replace the MacBook Pro stolen in Budapest. Beanies, hoodies, hats and hard hats. Yup it’s back in BK. And back in the nabe spot for lunch specials and a bday green tea tiramisu cake for the niece. Wednesday morning run over the billyburg bridge and winter turns to spring. Some neighborhood runs and street art. One by @icyandsot showcased in @mocomuseum in Amsterdam. Sunday long run to Elmhurst for BK half training and some nasi bungkus. Friday train ride from London to Amsterdam CS. Back in NL but instead of staying in the capital it’s off to Utrecht where the Airbnb comes with fiets. Nice welcome from Maika who’s originally from Jakarta and the world of marketing and advertising by way of Unilever and JWT. Bike ride to the local brouwerij and haringhandel and it’s village living. Gezellig. Weekend trips to Utrecht centraal by train and fiets. An appreciation of the cozy cafes, street art and canal. Shopping for kaas, snoepjes and haring at the food markt. Sunday brunch of pannenkoeken in town and a run in maxima park the country’s biggest. Monday and it’s back to nyc. Bid the host and trawangan huisje terima kasih and tot ziens. On the train to Schiphol, news of the Utrecht tram shooting. Godverdomme. Such a peaceful city at that. Aboard the Norwegian air on exit row aisle seats and once back in nyc welcomed by a cabbie who fucked up and drove into the city instead of BK. Stopped the meter anyway and apologized profusely. Where am I. Welcomed back to the billyburg spot to hugs and really good sushi finally. Tuesday morning easyJet flight after a most hospitable stay in Praha and it’s London by way of Gatwick. Quick reacquaintance with the subway er tube and walking on the right side er left and speaking English the Queens version and a drop off of luggage at the Airbnb in King’s cross, and it’s off exploring the sights. And a bit of brushing up on Brexit and football news. Wednesday immersed in the world of Harry Potter. An early morning stop at the platform 9 and 3 quarters. And a 2-part magical ride with the West End show. Stupefied and in awe the full 6 hour plus show. Thursday day trip to the Stonehenge and a most pleasant and engaging chat with one of the keepers Bob on the stones’ history and purpose. He eventually knighted me a chap. From Stonehenge it was off to the Emirates stadium for Arsenal and Stade Rennes. A properly mental fixture with lots of goals and new 4 letter words learnt like twat, wank and piss. 3 marvelous days in London. Overnight bus from Budapest through Slovakia and it’s back to Praha. Monday tram rides and people watching. A 5K training run through Stromovka Park. Friday morning train ride from Vienna to a weekend in Budapest. First time in Hungary and likely the easternmost traveled to Europe. Quick pick-up of the city’s subway station and it’s off to the Airbnb. Up the Buda castle for impressive views of Pest. Walk around with friends and fellow travelers from Praha. Ample coffee stops in between sights. A ride around the Budapest eye for city views. Sunday morning on packing find out the laptop’s been stolen. Likely on the solo cabin on the train from Wien. The trip capped with a first visit to a grand budapest bath with pools of different sizes, temps and scents. Dinner at a restaurant that was too packed for brunch. Early morning train ride from Praha to Wien and at the Hauptbanhoff greeted by a blind stranger asking for directions. With minimal German I walk her to the U2 platform. Great start to 2 days in the Austrian capital. Some street art and a visit to one of the museums for an exhibit curated by Wes Anderson. The nicest Viennese coffee in a most impressive setting. Trek to the street art passage for space invader. A run around the Airbnb neighborhood after all the Naschmarkt grub. A splurge 5 course dinner at Michelin Bib Gourmand Meierei. Lekker sampling of Ostterich food, some good laughs with the servers, capped with a cheese course with notes in German. Invited to come again. Touchdown Amsterdam. Back for the 9th maybe 10th trip. Subway now in place. A visit to Febo for some rundvlees kroket. De lekkerste! Walk around town. Museumplein and visits to some haringhandels.
