Is there anything sadder than the little chunk of Kikis Delivery Service when Kiki says โI used to really like flying before it was my jobโ and then gets so burned out that her magic stops working and she cant talk to Jiji anymore and she tries so hard to FORCE the magic that she breaks her mothers broom and stays up all night, alone, trying to make a new one and crying?
And I know it is all ok in the end- Kiki has friends who look out for her and she takes care of herself and finds her place.
But fuck, those 20 minutes just hurt my heart so much.

be careful with what series you watch/read during emotional points in your life because they will forever contain a ghost of your past self within it now

One of my favourite bits of media history trivia is that back in the Elizabethan period, people used to publish unauthorised copies of plays by sending someone who was good with shorthand to discretely write down all of the play's dialogue while they watched it, then reconstructing the play by combining those notes with audience interviews to recover the stage directions; in some cases, these unauthorised copies are the only record of a given play that survives to the present day. It's one of my favourites for two reasons:
It demonstrates that piracy has always lay at the heart of media preservation; and
Imagine being the 1603 equivalent of the guy with the cell phone camera in the movie theatre, furtively scribbling down notes in a little book and hoping Shakespeare himself doesn't catch you.
Thou wouldst not downloadeth a car
The popularity of the "incompetent stupid piece of shit husband and competent wife who loves him anyways" trope in media is a psyop to make women believe its normal to settle for an incompetent stupid piece of shit husband
Man. I wish there were better sources on European magic between 700-1100 CE. A lot of the modern scholarship is like, interpretations of mythological epics and interpretation of archeological artifacts. But there's so much guesswork involved! It's hard to say anything concrete.
FACT: Somewhere in the 10th century a Norse person carved runes spelling the name of the god Tyr into a fishbone.
IMPLICATIONS: Who Da Hell Knows
I stg 90% of "medieval" grimoires were written in like the 14th century by people who were practically early renaissance thinkers. If u want actual medieval grimoires you gotta learn Arabic.
putting my hand up during sex to ask a clarifying question about the order you just gave me
But this is genuinely a shitty act against humanity.
