I spent my Sunday handing out promotional items for Annie as part of the state Christmas tree lighting festival. At one point, this little girl came up to our table and took a couple things. She came back a few minutes later and grabbed some more stuff because she's excited about the movie. So, a few minutes pass and she comes bouncing up to the table for a third time, and she points at the poster and really joyously said, "She looks like me!" It was the cutest thing, and also sort of sad. I'm glad this movie got made, but it reminded me (again) that it's not enough.

About an hour later, a woman, probably in her late 20s/early 30s took a poster and told me how she tried out to for the part of Annie when she was a little girl, and she looked at me, asked, "Do you think I got it?" and laughed. "The curls were right, but I was the wrong type of redhead."

There was a protest planned for the tree lighting itself, but I didn't see anyone around after my shift ended.
