I thought it would be fun to show you all the finish of last Wednesday's work in progress. I learned a lot about mixing color with this one. I also found a new favorite color. Payne's Grey. It's a beautiful Blue Grey that can make for wonderful shadows. Instead of Black, try a Payne's Grey and Burnt Umber mix. I hope you all like it. Well after the last post bombed (jess won't be getting stripes lol) I thought I'd make up for it with some art. I love this guy's work, he's.... Oh wait that's mine! Here it is folks, my first "studio" piece in watercolor. This is a 9x12 painting done using Windsor&Newton artist series paints and Arches 140lb paper. I learned so much doing this. From learning how to use masking fluid to allowing myself to be free while doing the background. The biggest lesson I learned and can pass on is use quality paints and paper. It makes a world of difference! I hope you all enjoy, and if you were wondering... This is a Cassowary. A prehistoric looking bird done in homage to 2 of my biggest influences, Mr. Aaron Blaise and Mr. James Gurney. #watercolor #learning #study #art #traditional #bird

Here a nice challenge study I had fun with. Figuring out how to get the shadow across his his hand and arm was a fun exercise. In case you were wondering, the original is a Saturday evening post cover named "Guilding the eagle" by Norman Rockwell. The shirt was fun with all the folds 😀 done in my moleskin 5x7 Sketchbook with Windsor & Newton Cotman watercolors. This seemed appropriate with what what my family's going through. A couple of Rockwell studies from "A Day in the life of a boy". The last 2 in the series of small portraits in the painting, these hit home when looking for something to practice. I may do a large painting based on one of these two, stay tuned. More master studies. Two more of my favorite heads from Norman Rockwell's "The Gossips". These two were very enjoyable. I loved painting the lady. Here's a little Sunday football sketch. This is my first time using gouache paint. For those of you that don't know, gouache (pronounced gwash) is an opaque watercolor paint. It's challenging but I like being able to start dark and go to light. I used a very limited palette to start my gouache journey. Titanium White, Burnt Sienna, and Ivory Black. This paint is nice as it let's you paint like watercolor, with washes and soft gradients. But when you need to you can use thicker paint for details. I also got a cheap 1\2 inch square brush that makes a nice Sketchbook brush. Expect to see more as I experiment. What do you all think? #experiment #painting #traditional #Sketchbook #Moleskine

InkTober Day 13 - Golem In Jewish folklore, a golem is an animated anthropomorphic being, magically created entirely from inanimate matter. The word was used to mean an amorphous, unformed material (usually out of stone and clay) in Psalms and medieval writing. #inktober Day 12 - Fairies A fairy is a type of mythical being or legendary creature in European folklore, a form of spirit, often described as metaphysical, supernatural, or preternatural. I chose to depict my fairy with the inspection look. As I feel that's what they'd really look like. He dwelt at the center of the Labyrinth, which was an elaborate maze-like construction designed by the architect Daedalus and his son Icarus, on the command of King Minos of Crete.
