The cops sued for defamation and cried in court about the songs ruining their lives

I saw some weird ass conspiracy video thing today of like 'we were never meant to have access to yeast, that was cultivated in a lab and it harms us' bullshit and I was like well first off there's no such thing as 'meant to' and second of all um? the long history of acquiring yeast from beer foam stretching so far back ??????

Not only is there yeast in the air, it's on a bunch of fruits, too. Ever rubbed a blueberry, plum, or grape, and it was slightly darker underneath? That thin film is wild yeasts. There is also yeasts that live on human skin (and not just pathogenic ones!). We are never without yeasts.

There’s a professional pastry chef on YouTube (Kat The Baker @chefkaybee ) who has videos about how to bake bread with wild yeast “captured” by using various organic fruits, water, sugar, and a jar. They start around 2020 during the height of the pandemic when everyone was baking. I followed along and made some really cool, tasty breads thanks to her.

Going to age myself here (GenX) but one of the First World aggravating things for me today is cereal. When I was a kid my mom would buy a box of our favorite cereal for around 75¢ and it would feed our family of four for two weeks. Big box. Full inside. Now, as a single adult, I buy a box for $8, it’s small, half full of air, and I wonder whether it will get me 7 days all on my own.

What’s Left Standing

There is a tree in the middle of it all that no one walks through anymore.

It has outlived names, outlasted maps. Whatever once claimed this land has gone quiet.

And still, it stands.

Not out of will— not really. Will fades. This is something older. Something beneath choice.

The tree does not ask why it was left behind. It has let go of questions that don’t change the weather.

It remembers the years it was not alone, but memory softens at the edges— like bark around a scar. The shape remains. The pain does not.

It has been struck by lightning more than once. And yet it reaches upward, not with hope, but with something gentler: acceptance.

It does not measure time in seasons, but in absences— the weight of snow, the return of birds, the ache of drought.

No one sees the roots still moving through the earth like slow, patient hands searching for something they don’t expect to find.

And maybe that’s what faith is— not belief in return, but the refusal to stop growing, even when no one is watching.

To remain, without witness, without reward, and still call it living.

Still call it enough.
