is it true that it's happening to everybody?
baby it really and truly is

Sorry, Matt
being at the airport is really awesome and completely traumatizing. it all depends on whether or not you can find a little corner
Reminder not to edit while you write. You want to finish that story someday? Then stop editing while you write!
Fixing an obvious error/typo in the sentence you just wrote is fine, but we're not talking about that. Do not reread, do not continue searching for errors, do not even spellcheck in case that leads you down the editing rabbithole.
Finish the story. The clock is ticking on that muse and distractions waste precious time!
If I don't reread I'll forget the specific vibe of my writing. I might not remember to add that tiny detail which links to that other tiny detail which later turn a deus ex machina to an 'ohhhh, this makes sense!' If I don't reread I won't be as excited to jump back in to keep writing.
I could definitely stand not to edit as much while I write but I will continue to do so because I find it fun. And sometimes my mind won't be in a space to move the story forward but I can still work on my writing by editing. And sometimes that leads me to start writing anyway.
So yeah, maybe if you find edits stalls your work indefinitely you could corral that. But if it opens up opportunities for you to write? Edit, bed it, carry on.
Okay, as someone who rarely finishes and frequently edits, I will always agree with this. Basically,
When story is flowing and you're on a roll whether it's been a couple hours, days, or weeks of steady progress, do not edit.
If you are stuck, confused, uninspired, or uncertain, refresh by rereading.
Plus if you're not concerned with finishing and editing is good practice for you, of course do what you want. Just when you've got a deadline or a goal to finish, don't let editing distract you!
anyway just because I saw a different permutation of this meme I have to share literally my favourite version of it:
It's just so perfect. The amount of blackout text. The fact it works without additions. The succinctness of the phrase. The palaeontology basis. The way it implies that tetrapods only left the water and evolved in 1562.

The single greatest picture ever taken in my life. We threw Yu-gi-oh cards at the ceiling fan to watch them scatter, and just happened to take a picture right at this exact moment. To this day, this is the only time I’ve ever heard of anyone breaking a ceiling fan blade with cards.

This place is really fucking loud, I'm going to get a drink. Oh, I'm going to do a thing, okay. […] I come up with a tray of various glasses and start handing them out.
Wow caduceus really said fjord my brother in the wildmother I love you but I'm never getting on a boat with you again.

Fellow writers with mental illness struggles:
400 words a day.
Five days a week.
That’s my deal with myself.
On rough mental health days, I adapt to “400 words or 45 minutes of effort.”
I’ve finished several long projects/books with this strategy.
Consistency over intensity.
