My girlfriend said ya'll are nicer than Reddit, so here I am. This will be a lot of book stuff e.g. Malazan, Wheel of Time, Realm of the Elderlings. I like fantasy, I like it big, and I like it to make me feel.

Look, look, I'm not going to say relatable characters aren't a good lovely thing, okay? My issue isn’t that blorbo from your shows is just like you for real, that's fine. That's good even. Enjoy that.

The myth is that it's the primary, or only, way to enjoy a story. Seriously, if you can't sympathize with a fictional character who isn't like you, then that's a skill you might want to practice. Curiosity is a strong way to start.

"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, being spent on species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?

This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.

Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.

Master Quell started. "Closed? But that's ridiculous! Does Hood now turn the dead away?"

Toc's single eye held on Gruntle. "The borders are sealed to the living, There will be sentinels. Patrols. Intrusions will not be tolerated. Where we march you can't go. Not now, perhaps never. Stay away, until the choice is taken from you. Stay away."

And Gruntle saw then, finally, the anguish that gripped Toc Anaster, the bone-deep fear and dread. He saw how the man's warning was in truth a cry to a friend, from one already lost, already doomed. Save yourself. Just do that, and it will all be worth it – all we must do, the war we must seek. Damn you, Gruntle, give all this meaning.
