Hey so to the person who commented this on the Ivantill Wiege video⦠sleep with one eye open.
Oddly horrifying when you realize Ivantill and Mizisua not only contrast each other through a reciprocated and āunreciprocatedā love, but also mirror each other in how they are just SO close in understanding each other and themselves, yet so far off.
Mizi and Sua know they love each other, but they also canāt seem to figure out or properly address the twisted parts of themselves. They canāt ever have a healthy relationship if theyāll keep dancing around harsh topics while also directly hurting each other when they do touch those harsh topics without ever healing wounds. Till and Ivan know or come to understand the other despite their frequent bickering, but only Till gets the chance to realize his feelings for Ivan and what Ivan felt for him. It was a feeling that Ivan didnāt understand himself and shamed himself for, and for all of Ivanās life, neither of them really figured out they loved each other yet still saw very raw and emotional parts of each other. They may not know what it meant, but they saw it and knew of it.
None of the four had enough self-love to get the kind of love they truly wanted or deserved. They were all just so weak and helpless yet could be twisted and wrong and flawed to the other. It was easier when they were just together and didnāt worry about misunderstanding themselves or each other. Until they no longer had each other.

In both ALNST and ZOMST, Mizi and Sua share the same toxic tendencies.
Mizi has a desparate need for control thanks to her lack of autonomy. She's both physical and socially helpless, feeling she despises.
In both ALNST and ZOMST, she's has no control over how her caregivers treat her. As she suffers abuse in both universes.
And socially as she's seen as just a pretty girl and nothing else. A fact thats better showcased in ZOMST. Where we see clear distaste for the position she is in. Her eyes loose their shine.
(My theory on why she stays in said industry because of the financial freedom is grants her. We know she comes from an abusive family who are likely also poor. As we can for a split moment mizis house in round one of ZOMST, where mizis mom (?) Is hugging her. Its messy and falling apart implying poverty. And in the same comic she gets angry at sua for offering to let her stay at her house for free. Saying she wasn't a pet that sua could keep around the house. She didn't want to depend on sua financial. She didn't want to depend on anyone so she turned to a career that paid well. That being KPOP. She traded her image for financial freedom)
While sua is obsessed with mizi to an unhealthy degree. With little regard to herself most like stemming from her own abusive upbringing. She's emotionally deprived so when Mizi offers her any form of affection, sua in return gives a complete and utter surrender of her being. Giving mizi an outlet for her feelings. Be that emotionally or physically (aka hiting) sua doesn't care if mizi hits her a thousand times she will still forgive her if it means being by her side
This next part may be more of a stretch but stay with me. Sua seems to also love being needed by Mizi. She knows that Mizi depends on her emotionally. She knows mizi can't be like this with anyone else so she had a tedher that keeps them together and when she looses that as Mizi becomes an idol she's desparte to get it back. Leading her to turn herself into a zombie . letting them stay in this twisted Paradise forever
(Sorry if this hard to understand I am running on pure caffeine
alien stage and zombie stage both critique the idol industry, the only difference being emphasis and the main metaphor they use to explore it. the alien poses that idols are alien: another breed of creature, held separately from yourself, and dehumanised because of it. it primarily concerns the conceptualisation of the other. the zombie poses that idols are zombies: an evolution of a human into another form of being, and are objectified by literally turning into an object. we primarily see the harm it causes people when they turn into zombies - both the spiritual and physical annihilation of the self.
the criticism in alien stage extends itself into analysis of people's intimate relationships under hostile environments - each person is alienated from each other because they are taught to treat each other as images rather than people. children are taught specially in anakt garden to be idols: their self is immutable for marketability, their sponsor is god, and others are competition. their relation with their selves and others are warped by this structure, naturally warping their idea of love by extension. this is the most identifiable theme of alien stage since it is spoken aloud to us via mizi's monologue. but it is of importance that this theme is built on a foundation of criticism of industry, the nuclear family, and religion.
zombie stage's criticism leans more physical and literal, as is the nature of the more realistic setting and therefore more direct commentary of the current pop idol industry. topics such as sexual exploitation are explored in more detail instead of being mostly implied in alnst. similarly, the dehumanisation in alnst is presupposed within its setting - humans are aliens, animals, pets - but in zomst, the process of being dehumanised is shown to us. zombification as a metaphor focuses on the body and manifests the trauma of being turned into a product physically. for this purpose, zomst diverts from classic zombie tropes of rot to gemstone, so the zombies may be commercialised based on appearance to be used as criticism of the idol industry. the main idea behind zombies is mostly preserved in translation, ie the consequences of eternity on human nature, but the idea of living beyond death takes on different meanings within the context of the idol industry and capital. the apocalypse in zomst is not the destruction of society, but a reaffirmation of it.
these metaphors do not work without considering the constructed context around them. we must understand alien/zombie as idol, and the stage as the world in which they inhabit. title drop spinning gif go
this is very important to me and exactly why i love this series so much.

the fact that Mizi did not reciprocate Sua's handholding, the fact that she isn't even able to notice what will happen to Sua, that she is deprived of feeling Sua's presence with her.... Oh, my heart š
