random thing I noticed: there are far more male charr player characters than female charr. I wonder why that is :T
They are an incredible rarity, the playerbase at large has even noticed and acknowledged it many, many, many times on the forums and across tumblr. I have no idea why female charr are so rare.
I have a female charr, as does promilie , and these are the only female charr I’m aware of even in my fairly large circle of friends who play GW2. And I only made my own recently. I have a male charr as well that I made at game launch, but I very rarely play female characters due to dysphoria it causes with me being FtM transgender. Only other female character I have is a norn out of, uhh.. 12 or 13 characters. I also have a male character that uses a female asura model.
The female charr doesn’t trigger dysphoria ever, the norn rarely does, but it occurs on occasion if I’m having a particularly bad day. Whrekk (the asura) only causes it on super rare occasions when speaking with the female asura voice, it’s why I try to avoid using shouts on him (he’s a guardian), and I think it’s triggery because I haven’t been on testosterone myself, so my voice is not where I want it to be. I will say it wigs me out when I preview an outfit on Whrekk that puts the female model in a dress, and I just can’t take his armour off where that wretched pink swimsuit is visible. So there’s some psychological stuff for you. Female charr just plain don’t trigger me. No sure what it might say about me.. I REALLY went off on a tangent with this.
I wonder if some people don’t play female charr because they tend to look and sound fairly masculine, and because they also don’t work as eye candy to a lot of people? Interesting.
Yeah but why tho..
(the red straps around his hips/pelvis. LOOK AT IT)
vyssal replied to your post:random thing I noticed: there are far more male…
I always wonder how many people out there might be doing what I do (lady charr character, but I use the male model).. Like, maybe not many but I…STILL WONDER
that’s pretty cool :3c I’m sure there are a number of folks who do that!
I’ve done that, except mine is a female asura model, male character, named Wrekk. WE DO EXIST!
Can someone please tell me what I’m hearing in Lion’s Arch that sounds almost exactly like a Tardis? It’s driving me mad, I keep looking around but I have no idea where it’s coming from.
if u really hate a guild wars 2 bug send me an ask (ideally with where to do it, reproduction steps, and ways it inconveniences you) and i can see what i can do about it! i’d be really grateful for the info, actually
i can’t say whether or not it will get fixed explicitly because such is the nature of the NDA agreement i’m under but if you send it to me i will try my best to at least document that it is there
what your choice of gw2 class says about you
elementalist: on the outside you may seem like a kind and knowledgeable player but secretly you are dead inside
necromancer: never left your goth phase
mesmer: you either hate yourself or you hate everyone around you, but probably both
ranger: youre just here to have a good fun time and you tend to get in trouble for tabbing out to tumblr while youre waiting for the other members in a dungeon
thief: same as mesmer but you wanted to be able to hate everyone while watching netflix in another window
engineer: you’ve long stopped giving a rats ass about what others think of you and have given up on skill rotations and just resigned to bashing your face on the keyboard at this point
warrior: you’re a dirty elitist, enjoy instant gratification, or both. the real question is whether you’re in denial about it or not
guardian: you probably highly value helping others and feeling useful but not at the expense of having to put in a lot of effort
I main Engineer and my second favorite is Necromancer, and both are utterly, entirely true.
Shipping sylvari like–
u kno before I learned about human gods, I’d greet/bug some pirate types or otherwise scummy humans in Lion’s Arch and when they’d be all “you’ll be visiting ol’ Grenth soon” and I was 50/50 “aww that’s nice but who’s Grenth” and “that’s a threat, right”.
learns later that Grenth is a death god. ohhhh. makes sense.
Aww, if it’s any consolation, Grenth’s a pretty cool (no pun intended) guy. Pretty nice for a death god. Maybe being half human makes him a bit more merciful.
Now, if someone says they’re going to send you to Dhuum, then you really ought to haul ass out of there.
The GW1 and GW2 wikis both have entries on the human gods, they’re amazing.. though unfortunately pretty absent in this game. The only contact we kiiinda get with one is a Reaper of Grenth in a certain PS path. Necromancer Lich Form shares a model with him. Interesting to know about the gods because they sort of lead to the Charr (read: Gold Legion scum!) making unfortunate decisions in the past.
A MASSIVE FUCKING WARNING TO GW2 MAPBREAKERS, with details
slayergt:
So i just got permabanned without a single fucking warning (I know we don’t get warnings, we get temp bans. I didn’t.)
For what? For breaking a fucking map. That’s right. For using the re-log glitch to get past obstacles. I was not aware it was a bannable offense. There is nothing on the internet suggesting this. This is incidentally absolutely disgusting and blood-boilingly unfair if you ask me, as there is literally no way glitch-skipping alone can harm the game, but that is not the point of this post. I might make another post with the details later. The point is to warn y’all because I know a lot of you like mapbreaking. Apparently, if you get caught intentionally doing it, this happens. No warning. Nothing.
Signal boost for awareness + arenanet’s disgusting conduct.
Alright, since this has gotten more publicity than I thought it would, here are the details.
I was exploring the unnamed, unfinished jumping puzzle in Caledon Forest (if you know the one, good, if you don’t, don’t go there. This can happen to you too). Since I like to discover everything for myself, I, as usual, refused to look up how to do this. All I had was a hint of the location and the requirement of Experimental Rifles from Malchor’s Leap. I guessed that the relog displacement thing (I’ll explain below why I think it’s actually not a glitch) would also help.
As a result of this, the entire affair took a very long time, approximately 4 hours, interrupted by a karka queen fight. I managed to get into the actual area of the JP, but soon discovered that I could not get into the second room. After this, looking around in the first room, I discovered a hole in the terrain (by accidentally falling into it) and ending up where mapbreakers normally do, in the water below the map. Now, as I had screenshots from within the other rooms from other people, and had (still don’t have) no knowledge of a different method for getting past solid walls, I assumed they’d used the relog thing, which I started doing.
Several hours of swimming and relogging and messing around later, after I’d managed to get into every single one except the second, I was just getting ready to wp out and log off, when I got the ban message. No warning, nothing.
I thought I’d never post these screenshots, but here’s a few of them for proof.
^This was where the jp ended prematurely, btw.
Afterwards, I sent a support ticket, twice appending it later with all the details about what I had been doing. I am unsure if I should post the original ban notice and my ticket, it might get me into more trouble??? Idk. The one you see above is the response I got. The original notice claimed I was using a ‘third party program’, while the response just says ‘a cheat or exploit’, as you can see, but I don’t think it matters. I don’t know how to prove I wasn’t using any extra program, but… I wasn’t. Like, why would I, the relog thing was there, and why would I need a hack for this trivial kind of stuff. I literally just wanted to explore this place. I had been prepared to give up several times when i couldn’t find how to progress, too. I guess I should have done that. Welp.
About the relog thing, I have realized it’s very likely not actually a glitch, but an algorithm. A purposefully implemented algorithm that repositions characters from awkward places upon logging in. I have come to observe that it doesn’t necessarily place you a step forward, but, if you’re stuck or on a ledge or something, it puts you in the closest stable space. It’s not a glitch, because it behaves smartly. If you were in a stable space when you logged out, you won’t move. See the big globe in the second pic? I got displaced from below the entire thing, water, bedrock and all, on top of that globe.
Anyway, the point of all this is, I understand if I get punished, even banned for this. What I don’t understand is, if there exists a temp ban and a permaban, several classes of offense severity, and I’m a first offender and long standing player… was it really necessary to give me a permaban right away? For this effectively entirely harmless offense? Especially considering how many other people have been doing it, including WoodenPotatoes in public videos, I’m told? I didn’t manage to find out whether the GMs had a problem with mapbreaking itself, or the relog thing, which people also routinely use to get into non-instance Salma, for example. So… yeah. ???????????????
The issue has been resolved and turned out to be an error in judgment on Anet’s part. Thank you to everyone who helped spread this.

what the fuck?? this is so unfair. I wonder if this happens if you only map break in pve maps or cities too?? So ridiculous. Im really sorry this happened to you
Its abusing a glitch…its their game and that’s against the rules.
Not a fan of the “banned for breaking out of the map” thing, but really, just because they didn’t do anything about it until now doesn’t mean you’re free to do it.
And since it potentially COULD give you an advantage over other players, I’d see why you’d get banned for it.
If there were no warning emails, that’s a bit disappointing. But you knew it was a bug/ glitch. And by buying and playing the game you agree on not exploiting bugs or glitches.
I wasn’t sure of the exact rule, thanks for finding it so they can see it
I’m failing to see why this rule suddenly applies to slayergt but not someone like Wooden Potatoes. “You are not allowed to exploit or communicate about the exploit.” WP has uploaded numerous videos detailing exactly that, when that rule has been part of the EULA since the beginning. Explain please. Until WP reports his account has been terminated, I’m going to side with slayergt here and call it an unfair and uneven application of the rules.
I want to add to this. You can map break in many places easily without the use of a “glitch”. There’s an item called an experimental rifle, a legitimate, obtainable item, and it’s a bundle that gives you the engineer rifle jump ability on steroids (it has a certain verticality to it as well as a long range). Hell, there are ways to get into places by using ordinary leaping skills available to various classes. In the place Slayer said he was exploring, the traditional way of getting in was to use a teleport gun or an experimental rifle. To suggest using your skills or ingame items is “exploiting” is a pill that’s a little too hard for me to swallow.
WHOOPS I didn’t see this before reblogging the other post. Nah, that’s excessive. Especially to let it go for so long without saying a single word about it, and then to start permabanning people for a very well known activity, especially among the lore-finding community, without so much as a “hey guys, might wanna stop doing this because it’s going to result in bans.”
And what about players who log out in a weird spot and then log in outside the map? Ignoring the fact that I actually am a mapbreaker, that has happened to me, I had no idea that particular spot (I’m not repeating it at this point in time) was a mapbreak spot.
Also what about people who accidentally map break with their skills (MESMERS) or people who go REALLY far outside the map due to falling off the ship in Arah Story Mode? I did that, too. Also on accident. And I’ve teleported under the map/through map walls I don’t know how many times on my mesmer, also unintentionally. I don’t want to hear any “but they looked around!” Most people who accidentally map break have a look around, you can find endless stories about this online.
Gosh I hope I don’t get banned for cheating my way through JPs with engie rifle 5, which I do because I’m visually impaired. I wouldn’t be pissed at all if there had been a warning. Or half as pissed if it had been a temp ban.
like yea mapbreaking is unarguably an exploit but people do that shit all the time (voidjumping vids are all over the place and aren’t hard to find) and i don’t think i’ve ever actually seen anyone use it for game-breaking purposes. exploring maps and getting cool screenshots is really all it ever amounts to, and i’d like to hear why anet all of a sudden decided it wasn’t cool anymore :s
I would like to hear that, too.
Post to the forums. We need devs to make an official statement on cases like this. Perma bans for harmless activity that has been part of the game unpunished since launch is sudden and extreme. This deserves some attention. I plan to lodge a support ticket and ask there. And if it is something they are enforcing suddenly then we deserve a heads up before they go nuking people for some harmless exploration.
Whoooa holy shit. Any more on this, forum posts, anything at all that I can read regarding this? I’ve not heard a word about this, and one of my favorite activities is mapbreaking.. I even have video and caps of me doing it. A lot. It’s easy on a rifle engie. And it’s exclusively for exploration, or getting a good spot for screencaps. I’ve even had other people see me do it and took them with me so they could explore as well, and that part especially now sounds risky.
I’d love absolutely any info (like users being punished, ANYTHING), and I will avoid mapbreaking in the meantime.
idk what everyone’s complaining about i think the ele specialization looks fantastic
Where’s the info about this? I just looked on the GW2 site and saw nothing. :(
