What is the gospel? the true gospel.

Here it is: Almighty God Yahweh made man to be in relationship with Him. We chose to walk away from Him and instead chase after sin. The consequence for sin was sickness, perversion, and death. God Himself demonstrated His love and forgiveness by laying down His life. And He won a victory over the death we were facing by resurrecting from the dead. Now, we have an opportunity to come back into relationship with the God of the universe, not fearing death! There is an opportunity to live the life we were supposed to live, without the consequences of sin! It’s good news! It’s a trade, our broken fragments of life for His full, powerful and meaningful life.

Who’s in Control?

James 1:14-15 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after this desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

It was a Friday evening and we had just finished having fellowship at someone's house. Naturally, we stayed to eat and chat about how everyone's week had gone etc. Now one of my friends told me a story of his experience on a night out. He was in a car with his 2 friends. One was driving, one was in the passenger seat and my friend, let's say, Aaron, was at the back just watching the two of them debate. They were contemplating whether or not to go and "see" a couple of girls they knew. Driver had already decided he didn't want to go. Passenger, however, wasn't quite ready to go home. He wanted Driver to come and occupy the second girl while he talked to the one he actually cared about. Now this debate, whether or not to go, went on for about 20 minutes until eventually, Driver turned to Aaron and said: "Please, help me to convince Passenger we shouldn't go." In that moment, Aaron paused and just thought to himself "You're the Driver. You're the one in control.

Why are you trying to convince the Passenger you shouldn't go somewhere? Just don't drive there!"

Now Aaron wasn't telling this story with a specific aim of teaching us a lesson, he had just found himself watching a reality that he found quite funny. But I had an epiphany picturing it, and the truth is that for many of us, this is OUR reality. This is how it is when the devil tries to tempt us. You are the one in control. Instead of us to just say no, or even still kick him out of the car, we engage in a meaningless exchange of words which ultimately leads to destruction. A perfect example is when Satan tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden. "Did God really say 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" "You will certainly not die." [Genesis 3:1,4] Instead of saying no from the beginning, she gave the devil time to entice her and change her way of thinking. Then, after all has been said and done, we turn to God, saying "God please, help us resist this temptation." But what are you resisting?

When we received Christ, we were freed. The only power the devil had over us, death by sin, was removed. He no longer has control. You may have heard the saying that you can't stop a bird from flying over your head but you can stop it from landing, making a nest and laying its eggs. It means that temptation WILL come. There are no two ways about it. Satan's not happy seeing you free, and he will feed you lies and plant thoughts in your head and try to place you back into a state of bondage. It's you that decides whether or not to entertain those thoughts. In the same way, you can't stop someone from tailgating your car, but you can definitely lock your doors, close your windows and stop them from getting in.

“Where are you God?”, no “where are WE in Him?”

To be honest…

The real question isn’t “where are you God?”, but ‘where are we in Him?’

Now

If we were in His word we’d know His promise within,

“I’ll never leave you nor forsake you”

-But yet we still ask as if we never knew…

…Him

“Who…God? Of course I do, he’s my all in all”

But yet we ask as if we don’t even trust in Him at all

As if abandonment was on his part…

But we should really search and find him within our heart

We’ve become blind. But not due to the light we’ve been called to shine…

No. We’re blind and numb from the condition of our mind

Joshua 1:5*. We read it, yet we’re like : “oh yeah Lord, that’s nice”

Only looking for something to serve our appetites

See

If we truly believed the word,  we’d realise that from what we learned...

-The blame isn’t on God

But of course we say ‘no thanks’ to’ today’s special’:

‘Admit we’re the ones at odds!’

What’s happened to our light that’s meant to burn within?

Less time with God, it can only get dim… dim…diminished

-That’s the result of sin

“Where are you God?”

In this darkness, I can’t see, but I need to find the solid rock!

Yes, it’s only in God that we find true stability

Yes, only in God do we find the light to put our mind at ease

It’s this knowledge that God has granted unto us for free:

-Be carriers of the light, ‘cos in the light you’ll find all you need

“Where are you God?” No… “where are WE in Him?”

Let us answer “In His light, which through his grace will ever burn within”.

How Have You Loved ?

At midnight mass the priest asked us this question. How have you loved ?

l haven’t Loved my family, my friends, my church, my neighbours, strangers properly rather imperfectly. I haven’t optimised the love God gave to us in its fullness. I fall short.

Through the Holy Spirit we love.

Galatians 5:22  NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Through abiding in the Holy Spirit we manifest the fruit of the spirit, but abiding in our flesh we don’t show love.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[c]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[d] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit is singular rather than plural, all aspects of the fruit are required  for a citizen of heaven, not just love because love requires gentleness, self control, joy and peace etc. One thing that can prevent us from loving is not being humbled. While writing this blog post I experienced “humiliation to make me humble”*. One parable in the gospel Luke 14 tells us that you shouldn’t put yourself at the head of the table, because it shows pride; you don’t deserve the seat rather you assume that you should be seated there. You will be humiliated when an individual who deserves the seat sits there. Instead the parable teaches us that you should sit at the meekest place i.e. The kids table, until you progress forward.

I have to be meek and humble. I can’t reserve a seat, or position for myself in a place which doesn’t match my identity or ranking. For example my Sister cooked Indomine (Instant noodles) and left the pot unclean, I wasn’t going to clean it up. I wasn’t ‘merciful’ or loving to my sister. Rather I took the position of contention thinking that I was in the right not to wash her plate. To my surprise my Stepdad not knowing who left the pot was cleaning it up therefore showing love.

I should take a position of humility in order to love others because I am rooted in Christ. Like Christ humbling myself into the form of a child, blameless died, rose again for my sins.

1 John 4: 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

LOVE:  ‘John 13: 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another’

What is the foundation of your faith ? (Article)

What does your faith produce ?

Are consistent person (are the same inside or outside church especially in your home) ?

What friends compel you to love, what friends compel you to hate ?

What elders (older role models) do you intimidate (Good and Bad) ?

Would you still love others in your hardships ?
