I've set a goal on my ko-fi to help fund my brother's cancer treatment.
The goal is currently at $300 until we find out how much he'll get billed for chemo. The $300 is to help take a chunk out of his ~$800 anesthesia bill he recieved for getting his tumor taken out.

The fundraisers that you see shared on here are these families lifelines, but recently I've noticed that people have completely stopped caring about them. This is not normal and it's not okay!! If you are exhausted, I need you to consider how exhausting it is to live through it! Every fundraiser you see is a real person. These are not just games of getting numbers to go higher. These are people's hopes of survival, hopes for the future, hopes for their children.The way you react to these campaigns has a real effect on these people, has a real effect on their ability to believe in a better future and hold onto hope.
Your alliance with the Palestinian people has to be material and concrete. My friend Dina has been struggling severely to see a future for her children as her campaign goes ignored and her pleas for help are met with silence. Her children won't survive on your well wishes, they need actual help. Please don't stand idly by while this genocide continues. You may have seen the horrific crimes occurring every day in Gaza but you haven't seen how my friend fears for her and her children's lives every time a new horror occurs. hey remember that multi-million pound recall of meat and poultry due to listeria contamination? I got you another, different recall. as a present
ten million pounds of meat and poultry recalled in the united states for listeria. list is incomplete and recall is ongoing
The ready-to-eat meat and poultry items were produced from June 19, 2024, to October 8, 2024. These products were shipped to other establishments and distributors nationwide then distributed to restaurants and institutions. Information regarding product labels and the list of products will be provided when available.
The products subject to recall bear establishment numbers "51205 or P-51205" inside or under the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was discovered after FSIS performed routine product testing of finished product containing RTE poultry products produced by BrucePac and confirmed those products positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Subsequent FSIS investigation identified BrucePac RTE chicken as the source of the Listeria monocytogenes.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be available for use in restaurants, institutions, and other establishments. These other establishments may have used affected meat and poultry in RTE products that may be on store shelves or in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Restaurants, institutions, and other establishments are urged not to serve or use these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

while most people will not get sick, listeria can take months to cause illness after exposure, and it can take months for listeria cases to become associated with a certain outbreak or recall.
there is not a full list of products being recalled yet, so check here regularly to get the most updated list.
the list currently includes frozen products, salad kits, refrigerated wraps, and products distributed directly to restaurants. the recall list will expand.
Editor's Note: Oct. 11, 2024 - FSIS wants to make sure consumers are aware that some of the recalled products could bear a different establishment number on the label due to further distribution and processing by other establishments.
Consumers are urged to carefully review the information, including the product and label information, included in the BrucePac Ready-to-Eat Meat and Poultry Recall Press Release.
...as in, the recall list and list of all affected products and labels is not complete yet. avoiding every single item on this recall list is not currently guaranteed to keep you safe from every contaminated product involved here. really fucked up they are STILL tracking down where these contaminated products wound up, and what they look like.
since I posted about it, the recall list has expanded, and is expected to continue to expand. if you want to keep up with this one, you need to check for updates regularly.

this is not related to the the boar's head recall. this is a different, newer listeria recall!
october 12th: the recall list is still being updated and is still incomplete. it is enormous. these are products that were sold nationwide from a ton of different stores.
right now there are a ton of ready made meals and salad kits. I would say at this point if you eat ANY salad kit bought from a store, check the list.

october 13th: the recall list has expanded. continue to check the recall list. it is absolutely fucking enormous and contains products from brands such as:
trader joe's, good and gather, boston market, atkins, dole, marketside, red's, little salad bar, fresh express, HEB, whitsons culinary group, rao's, michael angelo's, el monterey, fusia, trader ming's, amazon fresh, meijer, giant eagle, kroger, signature select, taylor farms, raley's, michelina's, eat!, garden choice, jenny craig, great value, and udi's!
this list will almost definitely continue to expand!
if you have consumed contaminated food, you can contact your doctor even if you are not currently having symptoms. high risk patients are sometimes given preventative antibiotics if they have been exposed to listeria. as a reminder, it can take weeks to months after exposure to listeria to get sick, if you wind up getting sick.
most people exposed to listeria will not get sick! but if you do, take it EXTREMELY seriously. listeriosis can be deadly.

in addition to the newly added brands, a bunch of new recalls were issued for previously mentioned brands.
most pages are one recalled item per page, but just so you know, the recall list is now 326 pages long.
if you eat any kind of ready made food with chicken in it (refrigerated or frozen), especially any kind of chicken chunks, do me a favor and check the recall list. if you already checked it yesterday, check it again. thank you for helping me spread the word. listeria is bad news.
