Apparently Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market, the largest in the world, held it's final New Year auction yesterday, where threatened giant blue fin tuna was auctioned for a whopping $117,000. The market will relocate to a more modern facility later this year, so I'm glad we got a chance to visit it last month. The highlight of our day: The Japanese man in the photo entering Meiji Jingu was someone we randomly asked for directions. This pic was taken almost 30 minutes after we first met him, after which he went out of his way to bring us directly to where we were going. I wish I could have talked to him more, or even just asked his name, but he hardly spoke any English. I don't know if this is an example of "omotenashi" ā the Japanese way of treating a guests wholeheartedly, of rendering of service without expectation of favor or reward ā or we just met an unusually kind gentleman, but it certainly made for an awesome welcome to Tokyo. #holidaytravel #japan #tokyo #omonetashi #arigatougozaimasu (at Meiji Jingu ( ęę²»ē„å®® ))

I usually dread my getting older day, more so reaching this age when they said fertility rates dropped drastically. Realizing I'm not superwoman, I quit my job to de-stress, relax, and get healthier. And so today, while Iām indeed getting older, Iām happy to report Iāve also been getting better. Iām getting better at slowing down to enjoy life ā reading more, listening to music, traveling as much as I can, (and yes watching a lot of TV); Iām getting better at taking care of myself ā making time to exercise, taking on new hobbies, cooking and eating healthy; And Iām getting better at being with loved ones āĀ being fully present when Iām with them and not distracted by work, hanging out with my mom like we used to do when I was younger, and spending long hours talking with my sisters and friends in different parts of the world.
