I need yâall to realize that DIRECTING an episode does not equal WRITING an episode. I love that Shawn Hatosy directed Ep. 9 but people are crediting him on the written interactions between characters that SHOULD actually be credited to Cynthia Adarkwa, a Ghanaian American woman. Who wrote episode 9. And the interactions youâre all loving and feeling devastated over.
I think Shawn did an amazing job and helped pull great performances out of the actors, but once again, those performances and dialogues were created and written by Cynthia Adarkwa and the writing team.
And because I couldn't help myself after seeing a few crumbs of spoilers that I think should open the door to Huckleabbot (though I still haven't seen the actual clip):
Alarm bells ring in Dennis's mind for the next hour after hearing âIf I don't come back.â
He knows a cry for help when he hears one, can tell a veiled suicide threat from a dark joke.
He also knows that if he goes to Dana, she'll be forced to go to management, and there's a chance Robby will get 5150'd, and that will be on his record and ruin his career.
So he goes to Abbot, because he wants to get Robby help, not ruin the guy's life.
And he waits, until he can pull the gruff attending aside after he returns from Presby, and whisper to him about what Robby said.
Doesn't even have to explain why it was so ominous, Abbot sees it for the warning sign it is right away.
Claps Dennis on the shoulder, ruffles his hair, and tells him, âOk, yeah, thanks for telling me kid, just pretend everything's fine and I'll handle it.â
Which is easier said than done, he fumbles his way through the rest of the shift, half avoiding Robby, half seeking him out to see if he can try to show him he's cared about, and will be missed, so he better not do anything stupid.
But then the shift is over, and there's nothing he can do but worry and hope Abbot knows what he's doing.
And the next day when Dennis makes his way to Robby's place, hoping to find the man still there, ready to give him his key back and have a sheepish exchange over him seeking the help he needs, Dennis is surprised he's right.
Or half right.
Robby is still home, hogtied and gagged on his couch.
There's a flash of relief in the man's eyes, before he thrashes where he's tied down, clearly expecting Dennis to run over and untie him.
But the relief Dennis feels is far greater, a smile spreading on his face when he turns to Abbot, who's making his way back from the kitchen, cup of coffee in hand. âYa know, we had to do the same thing for my cousin who refused to go to rehab, but we weren't smart enough to think of handcuffs and rope.â
Robby sags defeated into the couch, and Abbot asks Dennis if he wants a cup of coffee.
And then Dennis and Abbot fall for each other while they force feed Robby ssri's and put him through cobbled together home emdr therapy, ala movie style montage.
something about cassie coming into the programme not knowing anything about her mother's disappearance and ending it with being the only person who knows exactly what happened with her mother at the end
something about sloane coming into the programme being solely focused on facts and numbers when seeing a crime scene and ending it with being unable to look at dead bodies for too long now because she'll think of another dead body
something about lia coming into the programme buried under layers of lies and ending it with all the secrets of her past being laid bare to all the naturals
something about michael coming into the programme hiding all his emotions and making himself hard to read and ending it with baring his emotions to the rest of the naturals (e.g. all in after the near-death experience, bad blood when he was worried that celine was dead)
something about dean coming into the programme afraid of getting close to others because he was scared that he was just like his father and ending it with telling cassie she isn't a killer
something about veronica sterling starting off being pissed that none of the naturals and briggs saw lacey locke for who she was and ending it with discovering her own father was a master all along with none of them finding out
something about tanner briggs sharing the same traits (and possibly past) as many serial killers and ending it with being the only fbi agent to stay consistently throughout the four books and becoming the director of the fbi
something about scarlett hawkins always making up hypothetical situations of mortal peril and ending it with being the only one of the three to be killed by a serial killer
bitch this is all youâre gonna get. this life, this face, this body. you better not âmaybe in another universeâ your way out of everything. sit your ass down and face this. go make tea and have a picnic and read a goddamn book. kiss your loved ones, send that damn text, and hug your siblings. this is all youâre gonna get.
