Made challah from scratch for Shabbat tonight ✡️
my goyish friend after I explained to him why we cover the challah for kiddush
Remember to love yourself, let love be your strenght 💕
I know that we often think of Shavuot as cheese/cheesecake day... But the day is a Celebration of Ruth (well King David, but we have to read the Megillat Ruth for that).
So Chag Shavuot Sameach to all Jewish Converts and those converting, our Gerim Tzedek. Thank you for loving Judaism and Jews so much that you felt compelled to be one of us, and importantly thank you for an excuse to make and eat cheesecake every year.
So she said, “See, your sister-in-law has returned to her people and her gods. Go follow your sister-in-law.”
But Ruth replied, “Do not urge me to leave you, to turn back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go; wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
chag sameach!💚
Happy Shavuot 🌾💛
Celebrating the harvest, abundance, and our beautiful community. Thankful for all the little traditions that bring us back to each other every year. Chag sameach! 🥰

Rb if you respect Queen Esther, badass Jewish woman and defender of her people, as the feminist icon she is
[id: digital art for Purim. Six hamantaschens form a Magen David with two groggers in the center. Around the star is ‘Happy Purim’ and ‘עם ישׂראל חי’. Each hamantaschen has a different filling: apricot, chocolate, poppy seed, havla (with extra sesame seeds on top), purple fig/prune, and strawberry. /end id]
Purim Sameach!
Queen Esther was a young Jewish woman hiding her identity inside an empire that wanted her people gone. And when the moment came where she could either protect herself or risk everything for her people, she chose her people. She fasted for three days, walked into the king's throne room uninvited (which could have gotten her killed), and changed the entire course of Jewish history.
Purim is really a story about how the people who seem all-powerful aren't always as secure as they look, and how one person's courage at the right moment can unravel an entire evil plot. Esther was probably was terrified, but she moved anyway because she understood that she was exactly where she needed to be for exactly this reason.
I love Mordechai's words to her, "Who knows whether you came to your position for just such a time as this?" Every generation has its "such a time as this" moment and somehow we're still here, every single time.

Non-Orthodox converts are just as committed and devoted to Judaism as Orthodox converts
Orthodox converts are not backwards and closed minded compared to Non-Orthodox converts
All those who have converted through recognized movements while under the guidance of ordained rabbis and have passed the Beit Din and emerged from the mikveh, and all the children that they may have, are equal members of Am Yisrael
Good Shabbos
“jew by choice” is a good phrase but it’s such a misnomer to me. there wasn’t really a choice.
like yes I chose it, but I couldn’t have chosen differently.
The day the atmosphere shifts into something you can almost touch. ✨
In Jewish mysticism and ancient Jewish tradition, we treat Shabbat as a living, feminine entity known as the Shabbat Queen. She represents a window between worlds, where the physical earth and the spiritual heavens finally stop drifting apart and lock into a perfect reunion.
When we light the candles, we are intentionally becoming vessels for her arrival. The ancient sages spoke about a gift called the “Neshamah Yeseirah”, which is an extra soul that settles into your being for these 24 hours. It’s an expansion of your consciousness, and you can perceive a layer of reality that’s usually hidden.
By welcoming the Shabbat Queen, we’re allowing our own spirits to grow large enough to hold a piece of the divine.
Shabbat Shalom 🕯️✨
WHY BUILD A TOWER?
In this week’s Torah portion Noach, the descendants of Noah start building a tower “with its top in the heavens” to battle God. What exactly is their plan? The Netziv (Rabbi Naftali Tzvi Yehuda Berlin, 1816-1893) explains that they heard that the Great Flood was caused by people doing whatever they wanted. They concluded that corruption came from individuality and the solution was for everybody to behave exactly the same. The tower was built so that watchmen could look down on humanity and make sure nobody was marching to the beat of a different drum.
To end this arrogant effort to enforce conformity, "the Lord confused the language of the entire earth, and from there the Lord scattered them upon the face of the entire earth.” (Gen. 11:9) God didn’t create us to be identical clones; rather He made every one of us different, and we each have our own unique gift to share with the world.
