belle and jack saving the orphaned girl from devil’s elbow and bringing her to safety means that i cannot stop thinking about them as babysitters/adoptive parents. do either of them have time for this? absolutely not, but imagine them distracting her from losing her whole family and completely enchanting her by letting her use a stethoscope, telling her about nerves and sinews, diseases etc. belle drills her on latin terms. jack teaches her the coin trick. eventually the whole gang steps in to help her feel less alone! aputi becomes her bff and flashbang infodumps about chemical explosions. jack has to stop fagin from teaching her to pickpocket. walk with me
jack dawkins yearner of a century (his and ours) <3
if RFK's books ever got adaptation to another media they better not to turn Poppy War into a fucking live action series. i am not trusting them for making an accurate representation for Poppy War.
what i would love to see is a comic or 2d animation series for TPW.
for Babel, i could see a movie adaptation. Babel has a really compact story that could fit into 2.5 hour film. I trust Hollywood could adapt it well.
darius is probably one of my fav thing in the show because wdym the personification of evil become the enlightment guru for the priest you working for. i understand his hatred so much but it's also so fucking hilarious
my percabeth fanart !
i love how fanny is really skilled in swindling because she already lying so many times to her mother about belle and the fact that she also skilled in painting, and could make a perfect lettering for forgery. like, it makes total sense and doesn't come from nowhere.
and i love her bonding with fagin and how fagin treat her as equal and accepted her. i just love their interaction and i know fagin is really close to change her fake company as fagin and daughter.
I love in the church scene that when Jack says he thought she abandoned him in jail, Bell's immediate response is to say never. Because she knows (as per her argument with Fagin) he was abandoned before and how much it hurt him and she refuses to do the same. They're in love your honor
Worldbuilding and Magic Systems: Things to Consider
Have a magic system in mind for your fantasy world? Here's a list of things to consider to help you tie this system into the rest of your worldbuilding, so that it feels more believable and realistic.
Source
What is the source of magic? Is it natural or man-made? Can humans use magic or is it a force of nature that only animals or other races can use?
Does magic originate from inside a person or does it require external items to use? If it comes from items, can the items be made? How long does it take to make the items?
Does the magic cost anything- money, stamina, health, etc.?
Can a person be cut off from being able to use magic? If so, how?
Prevalence
How common is magic in your world? Is it so common that everyone has seen it or is it a subject of myths and rumors?
How long have the people in your world known about magic? Has it always been there or is it a new discovery?
How much does the average person know about magic? How much do experts know? What do people not understand about this magic? Are there any common misconceptions? Myths?
Is magic revered or feared? Or if it's common, is it taken for granted? Are there any taboos surrounding magic?
How many types of magic are there? Are some more common than others?
Are there dedicated schools of thought surrounding the study of magic? Is it taught about in schools? If so, is it taught to children or only at the college (or equivalent) level?
Accessibility
Who can use magic? Who can't? Is it something that only the rich and powerful can use? Why? Or do genetics determine who can use it? Wealth?
Are there any physical limitations that might restrict who can use magic? For instance, maybe old or sickly people can't use magic because it requires a lot of physical effort. Does your society provide accommodations for people who can't use magic? Is a lack of magic ability considered a disability?
Does education level determine capacity for magic?
How easy is it to gain access to magic? How easy is it to learn about magic?
Power/Usefulness
How powerful or useful is magic for different parts of society? Military? Medicine? Entertainment? Art? Childcare? Government? Communication? Business?
How does magic affect the politics of your world? How does it shape the economy? Are there feuds over the use of magic? Do powerful groups in your world have an incentive to limit the use and accessibility of magic? Why?
What happens when people no longer have access to magic? Does this cripple their ability to go through their daily lives? How?
Mix, match, and cross-reference these with other elements of your worldbuilding to form a believable magic system that lives and breaths just as the rest of your world does. For every answer you give to the questions above, consider and build upon the implications of what that might mean for your world. A worldbuilder's best skill is the ability to ask "How will this affect ___?" So make sure you're always considering the ripple effects of each element you add to your world.
Happy worldbuilding y'all!
this is the height of romance
Still an iconic line
my actual favorite scene in wake up dead man is the one where jud is on the phone with the woman from the construction company and she asks him to pray for her, the sudden turn from humor to complete seriousness without it feeling like a tonal whiplash is really really good
i do not know if anybody already mentioned this. but the fifteenth person that Piranesi found is a 7 years old girl? with a coral necklace??? this could mean someone is pregnant and raising a child in the house. and that someone perhaps is sylvia. maybe she met someone in the house and had the child. and they all die because of the flood??
this is such a disturbing fact that i need to live by after reading this book.
I am thinking about how genius Sony Picture is. when Marvel was broke, they sold Spiderman and make a contract with Sony. they need to make a Spiderman movie at least every 5 year and 9 months or else they would lose the ownership. and that's what they've been doing. Tobey's trilogy, Andrew's, and Tom's Spiderman was still under Sony's management. even if they now has a sharing contract that makes Tom's Spiderman could appear in Marvel movies, Sony still owns Spiderman and 900+ characters from spidey universe. and I don't think they will give it up anytime soon.
they made those silly-unasked Spiderman movie without Spiderman. Venom, Madame Web, Morbius etc. some succeed while some ... you know. but they didn't care because the only thing they care is to extend their ownership with Spiderman. that's why they make those movies.
and after the succes of Spider-Verse, they now have more Spiderman content to make movies! we already know that the Spider-Noir live action movie is in production. and now they gonna make either animated or live action version of Spider-Punk! what i see is Sony keep winning over the Spider-Man content 😂
Have you ever wondered what was up with that faceless guy from Justice League Unlimited? Or how that recurring cop from Batman the Animated Series ended up as a vigilante? Or just really wanted to read about some pulp detectives having existential crises while trying to be superheroes?
Well, this is the excessively detailed spreadsheet for you!
Featuring every single appearance* of both Vic Sage and Renee Montoya, as well as the other characters who've temporarily taken up the mantle, categorized by how much they show up and how important it is to their arcs. Also includes content warnings and my notes, which are mostly just rambling.
*currently just comics. TV/movies/video games will be coming shortly. I'm avoiding watching Gotham.
Please let me know if there's anything I could fix or improve!

EDIT: part two here + the letterboxd list
edit: part three here
i aspired to be as nerd as Morgan Gillory but the problem is i don't trust my own mind. i too will randomly say a fact that may or may not helpful to the community, BUT FIRST let me fact-check it first on google in case i was wrong and we ended up in the wrong way
i would hate it if i died one day and the detective that handle my case is a fucking genius. before finding my murderer, they will first find a letter that i wrote to my arch-nemesis in 8th grade. they will find my old diary that ranting about the most random shit and discuss it in a glassboard with their colleagues. also SOMEHOW they will find those old roleplay accounts that i made in 2020s and finding the real person that i interacted with ONLY to discovered that i actually have no enemy and i just fell of out stairs.
