I t was embarrassing to admit that after playing the role of a city girl for so long, she could still say she had never been to a proper amusement park. not many people knew that she wasn’t native to Seoul city, and she always deflected questions if she happened to slip out of Seoul dialect accidentally.    “ oh of course, I’ve course I’ve been to  **** world before ! lets go , this weekend right” she said as her friend invited her over the phone, while her fingertips were already on the iPad, typing up on naver images to see examples of amusement park outings.  …and that’s where she got all of her ideas. “ It’s not that weird…right? “  she stated clearly , drawing out each word of the sentence to make her point. head to toe she was covered in the yellow character known as “minions”. Her hat, her shirt, her shorts and even her shoes which were yellow minion crocs.   how was that weird? she thought it was cute and had bought them the matching outfit. everything she had looked up pointed to this kind of thing. “ you’ll wear it right? I even picked out the right size! “ she said with a little pout, folding her arms against her chest.

ieun had never been to an amusement park herself - after all, prior to training she’d spent nearly all her time with her family, and they were far from wealthy. a carnival, once, had been the closest she’d come, and that was only for an appearance at her father’s booth, passing out bookmarks with bible scriptures. that didn’t mean she’d never wanted to. it didn’t require much on her part to set up the date - hyera was suited as leader after all. jieun had faith everything would be fine, they’d maybe upload an instagram post on a coaster, and they’d have fun. what she didn’t plan on was, well... this.

“ it’s, ah...” 

the blonde squeezed her eyes shut a moment, suppressing a hiss. she was certain hyera meant well, but this would be embarrassing. making a spectacle of themselves wasn’t quite what she’d intended the day to be, but... really, what did it hurt? round brown eyes met deep golden hues, watching her. she was waiting for an answer, and there was no guarantee that they’d have the same opportunity a year from now, or five, and in ten they’d be all but past their prime, and for all she knew, they wouldn’t even know each other anymore. youth was short, and so easily wasted.

“of course i will, unnie.” she answered, not unkindly. her lips quirked into a smile and she nodded, as if to emphasize her agreement. “we should wear pigtails, too  — it’ll look cuter with the hats. hang on, i think i brought hair ties.”

“aerin is the best, bar none. she’s incredible to work with, of course, but she’s more than just a coworker, you know? she’s one of the people i genuinely consider myself close to, without second guessing. i’m grateful to have her. I wish people wouldn’t judge her just for being soft-spoken though, because she really does have a lot of love to give, and when she does speak it’s always insightful or hilarious or both. i don’t necessarily think she should have to change, but given our business, i hope that if she does, she keeps that soft part of her.”

she enjoyed her own Halloween costume. she chose to come as an ice cream cone, something funny and simple. she was sure everyone expected her get-up to be crazy but she went tame for this one. it was a farily thrown together outfit but she was still proud of it. and she couldn’t help but love the outfits from the people around her. 

just like the person she stopped. nabi couldn’t help but comment as they walked past her. “i love your costume!” she looked down at her own. “i don’t know if you could tell but i’m an ice cream cone! tasty right?” 

jieun’s face lit up at the comment. she’d put a good measure of love into her own costume - howl was a beloved character to many, herself included, so she’d wanted to do him justice. the compliment cemented that she’d managed.

“thank you, nabi-unnie - ah, do i get to call you noona today?” she joked, cracking a smile. she knew her face was markedly feminine, and she’d chosen to dress for her body rather than bind her chest, so there was little chance of being mistaken for a man. still, halloween was the time to pretend to be what you weren’t, right?

“your costume is so cute! you look good enough to eat!” jieun complimented, her smile brightening. truth be told, she’d expected more costumes to be horror-inspired, but she’d enjoyed a good number of the ones she’d seen. it seemed as if the bulk of the idols present had enjoyed the creative freedom they’d been given over their costumes. she wholeheartedly approved. 

“oh, I’m howl, by the way - from howl’s moving castle. in case you couldn’t tell. but the rest of the year i’m jieun, main vocal of 7rophy.” she introduced, uncertain if it was necessary but wanting to be polite. 7rophy wasn’t the most popular group, after all, so she tended not to hold it against people if they didn’t know the members.
