Memory of Space - 2012 Choreography by Jillian Hopper

As I was looking through a heap of video footage from the past year, I came across this short film. The solo was used as a film study for a screen dance course at the University of Michigan. Each of the 16 students in the class created their own version of the dance on film. This is my edit.

Here is a new solo I performed at ArtLab J Studios in Detroit in March 2013. Sound score by Joshua Harrison. The work is still in progress as I continue researching rituals. This work focuses on rituals as preparation for spiritual engagement. I am asking the questions; how do rituals help in the preparation of your own spiritual practice and when are they no longer needed? As the work continues to evolve I believe it will be a part of a larger group dance. Enjoy!

The Business of Living 2012

The Business of Living is a forty five minute site-specific dance work. It was staged in April 2012 at The Stephen M. Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor, MI. The work included interactive video, an original sound score by Joshua Harrison, three live musicians, poetry, and four dancers. The dance traveled from an outdoor courtyard, beneath an ancient oak tree, into the building, up six floors in an elevator, to a large conference room. The dancers performed all along the way carrying the audience in their wake.
