“‘Ye canna die,’ he yelled. 'But we’ll make ye wish ye could!’”
— Rob Anybody in Terry Pratchett's A Hat Full of Sky
Night concert.
Just hours before the Tokyo Olympic Games officially start, we take a moment to remember and morn the Munich 11.
In September 1972, 11 Israeli Olympic team members were murdered by Palestinian terrorists in Munich, Germany. We together with all Israeli athletes are committed to remember and share the legacy of the 11 athletes who became victims of terrorism. We will never forget!
On August 1st an official memorial ceremony in Tokyo will take place, to commemorate the 11 Israeli athletes and coaches killed in the 1972 terror attack.

Wasn't Palestine, as a country, drawn up by British colonizers? I swear I've read somewhere the Arabs who lived there didn't consider themselves Palestinian until after Israel started forming as a country (on top of the Israelis legally buying the land from the previous owners). I could 100% be wrong, I'm genuinely asking.
In every census before the creation of Israel the people now called palestinians were known as arabs and viewed themselves as such, unlike groups like Tibetans, Ukrainians, Persians, etc, who viewed themselves as part of a group before the 20th century.
Short History:
During the Ottoman Empire, a bunch of Jews pooled their money together to buy some land for farming communes. The Kibbutzes are still there, btw.
This part of Zionism, but the word is never used neutrally, like it should be. Zionism at the time was the Jews trying to build a homeland. Any homeland. The Jews were spread out across the world, and discussions about several places took place. There was definitely those who wanted to move to their historic homeland, and so they bought land to farm on.
The Ottoman Empire broke up at the end of the First World War, and the victorious powers basically agreed to break it into pieces and turn them into autonomous states. How well they were going to abide by the autonomous part is a different debate.
The British had control of Mandatory Palestine, and were trying to divide it into pieces. The problem with the piece between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean was a tricky one because there was a tiny Jewish community. They tried to get the Jews and the Arabs to work together and form a government, and the Arabs repeatedly, categorically refused. It didn’t matter what the compromise was.
The Jews decided that if they were to have any chance, they would need their own state, “even if it was the size of a tablecloth.”
The Arabs decided to genocide the Jews.
A war was fought, and some of the Arabs ended up on the wrong side of the wall. They started referring to themselves as Palestinian. Some of them are third and fourth generation immigrants in other countries, but still call consider themselves to be refugees. This is startling because every other group of refugees either moves back after the war, or settles in their new homeland.
Israel has promised up to 95% land concessions to the Palestinians to end the conflict, but the Palestinians have categorically refused.
Most Arab nations have the official position of Non-Recognition to the State of Israel. They don’t recognize it as a state, and will refuse ANY international action with them. This is to the point that if an Arab state fights Israel in the Olympics, the Arab state will typically withdraw from the competition. Pretty much ever Arab state has done whatever they can to destroy Israel, since.
Israel’s response to pretty much every attack is to go to wherever the attack is coming from, stop the attack, and then peacefully return home. Contrary to popular opinion, with few if any warcrimes. The complete lack of rape by IDF soldiers has them accused of… racism… for not raping the Palestinians.
