The librarian had been leaning into Yoongi’s personal space for a while not and he wasn’t quite sure how he felt about it. “O-oh,“ Yoongi said, eyes shifting away from the man awkwardly, "Y-you, too?” the librarian was also a demigod. He shouldn’t be surprised. Everyone was around these parts.
Yoongi always forgot he fell into the ‘our people’ category. It felt jarring whenever those types of comments came up in class as well. He had come into the whole gods and goddesses business so late in life that he hardy considered himself at all affiliated with Greece. His mother being a Greek goddess was simply happenstance. The only thing he got from her was her powers and his interest in gardening. He rarely thought about her and honestly didn’t think of her as part of his life. He’d never met her and she had done nothing for him in his life so far.
When the librarian makes a comment about meat and playfully punched his arm, it was the first time in their encounter that Yoongi felt an aversion toward the older man. That didn’t stop Yoongi from appreciating the smooth skin and lean muscle of his exposed forearms, however.
There were a few reasons Yoongi didn’t eat meat. First and foremost he didn’t like it. The texture was weird and it was hard to chew. He preferred vegetables. More than that, he preferred foods he had a hand in growing. Store-bought just wasn’t the same. More than that, meat just didn’t do it for him. He couldn’t absorb the energy from meat to the same extent as he could from greens and it left him feeling heavy and sluggish as his body tried to adapt. It was something he preferred to avoid.
He tried not to let things show on his face, choosing to smile and laugh instead, “Ah, I’m not very good in that class. You could tell?”
He didn’t enjoy fighting. It was the only class he had ever intentionally skipped. He didn’t have the stamina that he needed to use his powers and he didn’t enjoy fighting. The class drained him quickly and he had missed work after that class several times to recharge his batteries, wanting to avoid a cocoon incident in the middle of working. All the more, it just didn’t feel like something he needed to learn. He didn’t really consider himself a demigod and he was never going to go on any life threatening quests. He just wanted to lead a normal life. He was only at school here to learn to handle his powers and maintain his health, something he couldn’t do alone. Not fight. He didn’t want to mention this to the librarian, though. He seemed the sort who believed in the more traditional role and knowledge for demigods.
“Yoongi. Min Yoongi,” he cut in to fill in the missing blank of his name, “What’s your name?”
what an odd question. 'you too', as if they weren't all here for the same reason. but jin didn't decide to address it -- the male must be one of those new kids. seokjin never really understood how it felt like to pretend to be human in all senses of the word. he was a demigod for as long as he could remember -- something shameful, something fearful, something monstrous. he used to wonder if his parents would be proud that he lived up to these things, but those thoughts were unnecessary, and caused him more anger than he wanted to experience.
besides, it was much easier to let himself believe that he was supposed to be a monster, through and through.
"a little," he answered, in an attempt to be...nice. truth be told, now that he looked at the other more critically, he probably wouldn't stand a chance against seokjin, much less any child of ares. or mei lin. poor kid. he probably would have been fun to beat up in battlefield class; in fact, he would've been jin's favourite punching bag. but that was for another time, and jin was well past his student days. then again...
"jin," he supplied, holding out a hand in a traditional show of friendliness. "say, would you like a little bit of training? since i'm on a roll with this whole helping-you-out thing." the offer was easily given, although not for yoongi's benefit. it was more so a release of jin's own latent anger than anything else. "you know -- so you can do better in battlefield and all."
