I died and resurrected in 2 seconds.!
One high school demanded students remove their African head wraps — but they’re fighting back (x) follow @the-movemnt
The rose in a box
“Hearts are wild creatures…
That’s why our ribs are cages.”
The voices are back,
And this time around,
I do not intend to silence them!
I am not deaf.
I hear them loud and clear.
But I cannot speak.
I have tried:
To speak –
To scream –
To cry – my lungs out.
But my head,
My head is encaged.
Not inside metal rods,
Not within stuffed barber wires,
But in an air balloon.
In an air balloon propelled in the skies by the echoes.
Their echoes.
Them.
The voices.
I hear them loud and clear.
But now this time around,
It’s different.
They have faces.
Interchangeable faces creating a single noisy image.
Half blurry.
Half fading.
Almost transparent,
But their words are thick.
I hear them,
But I do not comprehend.
I have lost my quill.
They engulfed it.
Sometimes,
I beg them to return it.
At night,
We converse.
But these conversations have been dreading my soul.
We fight,
But I don’t want to.
Not anymore.
I have let them express themselves.
I have given them freedom.
I have surrendered.
But I’m afraid,
That if I let go completely,
It will be the end of me.
I have only one wish left.
Just one.
I wish for gravity to pull me back to earth.
Just one.
I wish for the wind to take me amidst a bush of thorns.
Just one.
Heavens can keep the doors on lock.
Don’t they have enough angels already?

Meaningful Nothings
What do I do, when I start questioning the foundation of my “happiness”?
What do I do when I have teary eyes but I am forced to smile?
What do I do, when my voice trembles, but I have to shout?
What do I do when I get tired of life but the smell of death repels my soul?
What do I do when I feel alive but the smell of death gets too attractive I can’t possibly resist it?
What do I do when the people who claim to believe in me, turn around and reject all that I say?
What do I do when all around me think I’m some sort of super hero, when my heart feels like a sea tormented by a tornado?
What do I do when my brain is on the verge of a tsunami, but my body resembles an egg about to hatch?
What do I do when my eyes project the stare of beauty, yet all it is is a mere reflection of your thoughts? What do I do when blades don’t scare me no more?
What do I do when the glades to my core stare at me in the heart? What do I do when laying in my bed feels like entering a black hole? What do I do when my quill bleeds silently inside my head? What do I do when the blood clots reach my brain?
What do I do when pain demands to be felt, and it has been masked with filters?
What do I do when I can no longer tell the difference between my mask and my face?
What then, when I start doubting my beauty?
What now, that my self-love has been drained?
But what is beauty? What is love?
Growing up, beauty was a given. An in-born thing. But did beauty exist? Did I ever think about beauty? Was I ever told I was beautiful? Was I not? I couldn’t care…
Today, I can’t quite separate the words beauty and love. They are complimentary. They are interchangeable. I used to wonder – do we find beauty in the things we love, or do we love beautiful things? Is beauty real? But I guess it is… unless we, humans, are not real. We are love. We are beauty. But how can I love another more than I love myself? Can I even love any other thing before I love the thing in me? The soul. Or rather – the things in me. I mean – the pain, the hate, the broken pieces, the hope, the ugly, the lies, the flowers, the thorns, that make me “ME” How do I love the rose from the garden without loving the tulip in my heart? How can I love music if my heartbeats are bothering my existence? How can I love rain, when I say my sweat stinks? How can I possibly love dancers, when I fail to dance to the sound of thunder? The thunder in my soul? How could I love the river, while I can’t swim in my own tears?
Possibly, because “I am simply the universe expressing itself as a human being for now…”
Baby girl, you are a star. You are light. You are a song. You are everything, you are anything you want to be, all the things there are to be. You will have that feeling of nothingness every now and then, for sure. But remember to breathe… remember that you alone are not whole… remember that you are part of a whole… but when you go look for the missing pieces, will you please remember that flowers and bushes blossom during different seasons? So when the human being that you are, feels like it is not enough, like it is a joke, like it is worthless, learn to forgive. Forgive yourself and forgive the universe.

You are the universe, expressing itself as a human for a little while

“The second trimester of school ended yesterday. Now it is time to take care of some family business.” “What was your academic rank?” “I was the first in my class!”
“Igihembwe cya kabiri cyarangiye ejo hashize. Ubu ni igihe cyo kwita ku bintu bimwe na bimwe byo mu rugo. “Ku ishuri wabaye uwa kangahe?” “Nabaye uwa mbere!”
Life goals.!
Sorry
This is to say I am sorry. For all the times i got under your skin, For all the times i got you really mad you wanted me out of your life, For all the times i nagged you with questions you didn’t want to answer, For all the times you disliked me, I am sorry. For caring too much that it became annoying, For missing you so much that it pissed you off, For my mood swings that make you think i am crazy, I am sorry. If I could turn back time to make things better, I would. If I could prevent it from happening again, I would. But I ain’t no super hero. And i don’t do magic. The silence is breaking me, It is so loud that I can’t stand it, and it is painful. But i respect your decision. I know it makes you happy, And peaceful and i will never come in the way of that. I am sorry that you didn’t read between the lines, I am sorry that you never understood what I meant to say. I never intended for any of it to happen. I treasure our friendship and i’d never do anything to ruin it. But I am sorry that I still did ruin it. I wish I could take it all back To those times when we were happy, To when we enjoyed each other’s company. But not all wishes come true.
I am sorry that I am not that girl you met two years ago anymore.

TRANSFORM AFRICA SUMMIT – the behind the scenes nobody will bother mentioning
Hi, my name is Jocelyne Karita; and I am collateral damage.
I explain-
I am a student at the University of Rwanda, in the college of Sciences & Technology - Nyarugenge Campus. Yes, that place hosting Transform Africa. Cool, I know.
So, last Thursday, the keys of creative design classrooms were "taken". The building is locked till the end of the summit, which means no classes. Yay! Word has it, we are getting access to the building after November 4th! That’s even better, we get 3 weeks off!
Hold on, hold on. But I also started classes late, because of registration issues. The university has been trying the new *online registration thing*... But no, I still had to wait for 2weeks to be registered because of the endless queues. (Riddle: queues online? Well, we are a tech college. Online queuing is the new it).
So basically, that's a total of 5weeks of unexpected holidays that I paid tuition for. Holidays I might have to pay back with sleepless nights and funless days, if my lecturers care enough about catching up. Either way, I pay painfully.
But that mentioned above is not the issue. The real issue is that I will not think about such things. C'mon! I'm a student, remember? And we students love holidays. I will rejoice, because that's where my thinking capacity reaches. Shame!
Question: in which currency do we measure the worth of collateral damage? What is collateral? Who defines it? Who do I ask?
P.S: in the previous Transform Africa Summit, not only was school cancelled, but the building was demolished to make space for tents and parking…
*pulls her blanket and turns up the volume of her movie*

"When they don’t love you the way you want to, you mourn that for however long you need to. But then you get back up and you remind yourself. You are not a reflection of the people who can’t love you. You will love again. You will be loved again." - Caitlyn Siehl
