a rare peaceful night on the starblaster
Blood farms and custom guitars: TVL production designer Andres Cubillan shares insights into the seasonās most memorable setpieces.
As Lestatās childhood flashbacks move through his adolescence to young adulthood, weāre given hint after hint that the family has fallen on hard times, mirrored by his fatherās increasing infirmity, and the rest of his family succumbing to various illnesses. āWe see less staff in the house,ā production designer Andres Cubillan explains. āWe see the food getting simpler. Even the china on the table. We go from a very sort of elaborate multi-piece setting, you know, crystal glassware, silverware, and that starts getting reduced. So you start feeling like theyāre really impoverished in their sort of ridiculous aristocracy.ā
āTheyāre not going to give [Lestat] some large bedroom. Itās going to be sort of awkward in size. Iāve spoken about the tile floor and the fact that itās a material that would have been used for servantsā quarters or kitchens.ā Lestat is a second-class citizen in his own home, and the images decorating his walls make a further statement about the violent undercurrents of his childhood. āThe mural work on the walls, it was a play on the tropes of little boysā roomsāthe trains and the boats, and that heteronormative ideal for a little boysā room in that era.ā But instead of boats or scenes of boyhood adventures, Lestatās bed is surrounded by āimages of war and massacres and conquests,ā creating a nightmarish backdrop to the only private space he has in the house.Ā
"sex is real" is a very funny thing to say to a group of people who very famously change their sex on purpose
in abandoning discussion of the nuances of sex in trans discourse, we've ironically let bioessentialist, binaristic thinking fester and rot out our communities
we've stopped actually challenging the binary, we just slapped "amab" and "afab" over "male" and "female," and we treat transition itself like a mere act of dressup. we let blatant transphobia run rampant all the time as long as people call each other "amab" and "afab" instead of misgendering them directly
"afab bodies," "amab energy," "afab only housing," "amab behavior" THIS IS TRANSPHOBIA. YOU ARE MAKING ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT PEOPLE'S BEHAVIORS AND BODIES BASED ON THEIR ASSIGNED SEX. THE WORD FOR THAT IS TRANSPHOBIA
sex does not determine your behaviors. sex is not a binary. sex can be changed, and IS changed by medical transition, INCLUDING hrt
is it even a "trans" community if we don't hold these things to be true? how can a community of trans people who bind each other to their agabs like the rest of the world does be called a trans community? come the fuck on

It has come to my attention that some of you have not actually seen the music video for Ghengis Khan by Miike Snow so Iāve taken it on myself to end your ignorance of this piece of cinema
The greatest cinematic experience of 2016, werenāt you watching?

Remember when you were a kid and youād be playing Rock, Paper, Scissors and some other annoying kid would think they were being sooo clever by yelling āBOMBā to end the game?
Thatās Good Omens 3 to me, and specifically the Book of Life plot device and The Decision to end everything.
Rather than engage with the pre-existing rules and tone of the game, the writers of GO3 threw in a last-minute destructive plot device in service of a philosophical conclusion that made the whole conceit collapse. Oh, you liked the rock-paper-scissors worldbuilding? Lmao, well, itās all bombed now, NERD!
Yes, itās a made-up silly game. You can subvert expectations if you want, sure. But youāre still an asshole for derailing the assumptions of good faith everyone else was bringing to the game. People donāt like it when you defy established rules just because you want to win and feel superior.
Throwing in a game-breaking move that doesnāt fit the tone of the situation isnāt clever. Ruining the game for everyone else isnāt kind.
Sometimes itās more fun for everyone if you use the parameters of the existing fantasy to solve the problem at hand, rather than just blowing the fantasy apart.
MAGA boomers SHOCKED by 20y/o commie speaking fluent hog
Hog 201 for anyone interested in trying this:
Bodily autonomy (like abortion, anti draft, etc) -> āThe government shouldnāt be able to force anything on my body I donāt want.ā
Anti surveillance -> āI donāt trust big government/big tech (big brother if youāre feeling frisky) with the ability to spy on me and my family.ā
Immigration -> āNext to all of us immigrated at some point, I donāt see why the elites get to decide whoās allowed to be where. Whatās to stop them coming for me?ā
Climate Change -> āBig oil shouldnāt get to determine whether or not I get to go places. I donāt want to be dependent on some big business to survive.ā
State Violence -> āI donāt want the goddamn secret police breathing down my neck! I trust my community a whole hell of a lot more to help me than I do the state!ā
The vast majority of conservatives think of themselves as underdogs being repressed by the government/the elite, and they value personal freedom (specifically their personal freedom, they donāt care about other people). The will almost always agree with leftist points if you can find a way to blame the problem on their vague enemies (useful, since rich people are the root of most problems), and tie it back to their ability to say fuck everyone else. NEVER appeal to science, theory, logic, or human goodness. Make it seem as if you are a paranoid lunatic who trusts no one. They love it.
#you need to tailor your arguments to people's existing values and priorities if you want to convince them #the flip side is that it's every bit as easy to tailor conservative arguments to convince a leftist audience #so don't get smug #you're not immune to this either <- prev extremely true
Never forget what they took from us.

I saw a post about Shane and Ilya being sad that they can't thank each other in their acceptance speeches like other can with their spouses and it got me thinking:
Ilya wins his first awards and hes got nobody he really wants to thank after his team and coach cause he he hates his family but he knows his speech is too short so on impulse he goes "And I want to thank Shane Hollander for being slightly worse than me this season". Everyone knows it was going to one of those two, so everyone thinks hes an asshole to say that but whats new so it works for him. But from then on it then becomes a bit for both of them to thank each other in their speeches in a snide way as a reason they won.
Shane winning the Art Ross Trophy (Awarded to the player who leads the league inĀ total pointsĀ at the end of the regular season). and going "special thanks to Rozanov for missing at least 5 shots this season, he was a huge help"
Ilya winning the Conn Smythe Trophy (Awarded to the most valuable player for his team in the playoffs.) "Just want to give a quick shout out to Hollander for getting knocked out in the second round this season. Must hate to see me up here."
They find a way to mention the other in their speeches every time all the time.
