I am losing myself in so many thoughts about the Centaurs being unwanted by any other team in the league. Obviously we know about Wyatt, Troy and Wiebe. Luca looks like he is fifteen when he’s twenty. He looks like a very tall twelve year old when he is drafted in 2018. Sure he’s incredibly talented, but there is so much talk about his physique and how he’s not aggressive or tough enough for the NHL. To top it all off he bombs his Combine interviews. No one expects him to be a 1st round pick, but the Centaurs pick him 2nd overall. Every single podcaster and sports journalist calls it one of the worst draft decisions in the last decade. Evan starts dating Caitlin and he can’t ignore his teammates and their attitude towards women anymore. After giving some rookies a talking to about pressuring some girls at a bar his coach tells knock it off if he wants to stay on the team. He doesn't listen. He makes a fuss about a player taking home a woman a bit too drunk for his taste. He’s traded to Ottawa by the end of the year. Nick pushes back against sending one of the young players back on to the ice too early. When a second injury ends the player’s career with the suggestion that it might not have been so bad if he was allowed to heal properly Nick loses on his coach, the team doctor and anyone else he can think of. Ottawa claims him off of waivers. Zane is drafted to Ottawa and the coach sucks. He finally gets brave enough when he is finished with his ELC to take the abuse to the Centaurs management. In a move that’s unexpected some of the veterans back him up and the coach is fired. The Centaurs then cycle through a list of bad coaches that are at least tolerable human beings until Wiebe. His first coach however is hired by another team and makes sure his “side” reaches every team in the league. Staff from three different teams make sure to tell him that he better make Ottawa happy because no other team will take him.

The Long Game thoughts pt. 1

Everyone needs to say thank you to Zane Boodram. Coach Wiebe is new for 20/21 right and Ilya has only been in Ottawa for two seasons (starting the third) at this point. So neither of them have been there long term. You know who has… Zane “never been traded” Boodram. The Centaurs are the best team in the NHL in terms of decent human beings. Yes, management probably had a lot to do with it, but management isn’t in the locker room. Zane is! As much as I love Ilya and I think he did his best to shut down any locker room talk that went too far even in Boston, you don’t fix a toxic team in two seasons. Zane is the king of the Centaurs social calendar and has the A (at least in this season, but I bet he has had it for a while). I definitely think getting Ilya then Wyatt then Wiebe only solidified the commitment to being a truly good team, but Zane is the one that gave them a solid start.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

I saw a post about Shane and Ilya being sad that they can't thank each other in their acceptance speeches like other can with their spouses and it got me thinking:

Ilya wins his first awards and hes got nobody he really wants to thank after his team and coach cause he he hates his family but he knows his speech is too short so on impulse he goes "And I want to thank Shane Hollander for being slightly worse than me this season". Everyone knows it was going to one of those two, so everyone thinks hes an asshole to say that but whats new so it works for him. But from then on it then becomes a bit for both of them to thank each other in their speeches in a snide way as a reason they won.

Shane winning the Art Ross Trophy (Awarded to the player who leads the league in total points at the end of the regular season). and going "special thanks to Rozanov for missing at least 5 shots this season, he was a huge help"

Ilya winning the Conn Smythe Trophy (Awarded to the most valuable player for his team in the playoffs.) "Just want to give a quick shout out to Hollander for getting knocked out in the second round this season. Must hate to see me up here."

They find a way to mention the other in their speeches every time all the time.

concept: the centaurs hire svetlana as a scout because she knows everything about hockey. and that is truly, genuinely why she gets the job. but then management (but not svetlana, or shane) are surprised to realize that having a queer black russian woman represent the team makes it really fucking easy to weed out players who would poison the inclusive locker room culture they are trying to maintain.

AU where Irina kills Ilya’s fuckass dad instead of herself (everyone thinks he died in an accident) and the real heated rivalry is between Irina and Yuna having a momager-off. I don’t think in TLG Shane is made to look bad, especially after his and Ilya’s big fight.

Like, just after the fight we have Ilya meet with his therapist, Galina, who literally tells him that he fucked up in this situation.

That he backed Shane into a corner with that question about Bood’s party. The whole scene is Ilya realising that he should have told Shane first how he wished to publicly come out and reveal their relationship to the rest of the world.

Like, idk why people are attacking Rachel or saying that Shane is the villain when he objectively doesn’t do anything wrong. Not to say Ilya did something wrong, but the fight started because of his lack of communication. And he even apologised for it to Shane later. Shane is such a sweetheart that even after their fight he endeavours to understand Ilya’s point of view and tries to fix things because he genuinely loves Ilya more than anything. Yes, even hockey.
