Morpheus is in the legs that fall asleep and the eyes you canāt keep open, and the endless cups off coffee that didnāt work, caffeine immunity creeping in. Heās the sand in your eyes the day after an allnighter, coaxing you to pause, letting you know the world can wait a few hours. In the vivid daydreams and dizzy thoughts that conjure themselves into vision even when you donāt close your eyes. Heās the sudden smells that take you back a decade and are gone as quickly as they come.
Hades stands not in graveyards but on every corner and every bridge. He crosses the street with you as you contemplate the oncoming cars. Dutiful accountant, he knows your name, and it waits on his tongue. Heās not there to rush you, nor help you. Perhaps his presence is enough. Even in ideation, Hades is in cold fingers and forgotten teas, crumbled leaves that tell you heās taken her away again. Heās in the rinds of fruit and discarded husks, the plucked leaves, the end, always waiting at the core of everything.
Persephone is in the fresh fruit, ripe and ready to burst, eating them, destroying them feels like a sin, like delicious betrayal. Sheās the first sharp bite and the way the juice rolls down your chin, in the decisions you hold steadfastly onto. sheās in defiant stares and the way you walk in like you own the place, because as long as sheās by your side, you do. When people whisper your name and pretend they donāt see you, sheās there, by your side, lifting your chin. Fear may also be hate, but it is also fear, and that is your power.
Aphrodite is in the crisp line of lipstick, and the boldness of a sharp cateye, but also the next day when itās smeared and freckled with chipped mascara, the glance in the mirror when you see yourself like this and shrug, ānot so badā. Sheās in the burst of warmth and weak you feel when you watch a child laugh with its grandmother. Sheās there in that moment you fit into those jeans, sheās there when you slip into sweatpants and have a second slice of cake. When you shit talk your ex sheās there, nodding and making sure you know he was no good for you.
Dionysus walks in when your friends do, carrying his revelry on their shoulders. With a bottle of champagne, -a treat-, he'sĀ not so much in drinking it as he is shaking it up and popping the cork, the laughter and the mess that ensues, the sticky fingers that last the night. Heās there in the morning next as well, surveying the damage and grinning like a king when you scrape chips off the couch.

Changing religious habits in daily life
Two things Iāve recently made a conscious effort to change is the way I pray and the way I swear. I was brought up in a Christian household so picked up habits and expressions that Iām now trying to get rid of. And I think Iāve been pretty successful.
āļø Praying
I used to mimic the Christian way of praying when referring prayer in a conversation. Head down, eyes closed, hands together. Iāve been making a conscious effort to instead put my head up, eyes open and hands apart, palms flat. In a mimic of the Henu pose.
I thought it was really important as a mini expression of my faith to the people around me like colleagues that might not know that Iām a Kemetic. I think Iāve had an odd look or two, but no one has said anything about orā¦ overly cared.
āļø Swearing
This really goes hand in hand with āblasphemyā or sarcastically praying. For example āfor Godās sakeā. Iāve changed a few of my common āswearyā expressions to reflect being Kemetic.
My most common one is āFor the love of the gods!ā and āgods above!ā The second one works really nicely when Iām keeping my faith a secret, because it can be easily misheard as āGodās above.ā But I know what I mean.
(I donāt consider these phrases blasphemy in he Christian sense, because although it might be sarcastic I am genuinely appealing to my gods. For example, if I see something so ridiculous I say āGods above!ā I mean this is so ridiculous I need my gods around me to protect me from the ridiculousness and to enjoy it with me. - I hope that makes sense!)
And my favourite is Heru f-ing Ur to replace Jesus f-ing Christ. This is amazing, because the tone says more than the words and most people donāt even notice youāre not saying the thing they expect to hear. I saw this on a post a while back and decided to make the switch, I canāt remember who first suggested the change, and I canāt find the post again. But thank you! This has changed my life!
And finally, my favourite swearing phrase. āHoly mother f.ā Because, well, itās a pretty great epithet of Hethert š

Interesting. Prayer positions have been much less of an adjustment for me because when I was a Christian I didnāt really do the Christian Prayer Position ā¢. I didnāt have anything against it, really, itās just that little!me rarely did anything without a logical reason, and nobody in my church could explain to me why they did it that way. Some even said outright that it didnāt matter, that God didnāt care about how you prayed as long as you were praying, so, I reasoned, why should I care? Iāve since figured out that prayer positions are really more about getting you in the right mindset to talk to your god(s). Like, I donāt technically have to offer henu when praying to Kemetic gods, or sit criss-cross applesauce when praying to Cernunnos, but I do it anyway because it helps me feel more connected.
As for swearing, my habits on that have stayed mostly the same. I just say āgodsā instead of āGodā where appropriate.
I tend to useĀ āgods aboveā too. Itās fun. Though I type it out too. As far as prayer position, I donāt know that I ever had a formal prayer position, now itās super informal. But I tend to more just think of it asā¦ talking I guess.Ā
I love āgods aboveā Iāve adapted it into a full phrase. I donāt know if I made it up, or if Iāve subconsciously stolen it from somewhere:

Deity Jars
Having a small living space can cause lots of witchy problems. One thing that I struggled finding space for was an altar for the deities I follow. Iāve seen lots of posts about making travel sized altars in mint tins for the busy or closeted witch and thatās where I got the inspiration to make my deity jars!
What you can do is get a wide mouth jar (there are loads available at places like the Dollar Store for a witch on a budget) and fill it with plants, crystals, and other items that are sacred or are of some significance to the deity youāre making it for.
For example, my Aphrodite jar is filled with dried rose petals, pearl-like beads on a necklace, rose quartz, clear quartz, sea shells, and coral.
You can use the jars for worship, prayers, meditation, harnessing the energy of the deity for spells, or for amplifying your own energy for spells that would fall into the deities domain.
Iāve used my Aphrodite jar for all sorts of love spells! Iāve used it focus my intent during spells and if a love spell requires writing your intent on paper, I just put the finished writings inside the jar for a period of time based on lunar phases or until the spell is completed and accomplished.
The Deity Jars can be used for any pantheon and are relatively cheap and easy to make! If you have any questions donāt be afraid to ask!
Working With Sekhmet
Ā Before I even knew the word kemetism I was interested in working alongside some of the Egyptian deities. One goddess had caught my eye; a strong beautiful warrior lioness who took down enemies with the swipe of her claws, Sekhmet. Ā During the time I was doing this research and dwelt into possibly working with Sekhmet, I was going through a rough emotional time. To avoid much detail; I felt weak, used, and controlled and I wanted revenge on those who made me feel that way. I wanted to rise above them, to conquer them and give them no more power over me, to show them how I was stronger. Ā So of course Sekhmet was the perfect goddess I saw fit to worship. She was strong and independent, what I wanted. So I prayed. I connected with her and began a fellow companionship; casual conversations. I asked for her strength and for her to lead me on a powerful path, and she delivered. Ā I overcame the shitty feelings I had and felt like the strong thriving woman I desired to be. But there was another side. With these great confident feelings I also began exhibiting violent impulses to physically hurt those that had emotionally hurt me. But, being me, a 90 lbs 5ā4 girlā¦ I wouldnāt exactly stand a chance in a fight even if I had all the gods rooting behind me. This began to become a problem; I would emotionally lash out more often and felt like I must avenge my own symbolic death from those that had ākilledā me. Ā Sekhmet is an astounding goddess in all her glory and I still worship to her today, but I understood that worshiping Sekhmet alone can be dangerous. So who else to worship then? Ā The answer lied in the own origin story of Sekhmet, the Eye of Ra sent to bring chaos among the people, and you know the rest. After Sekhmet fell asleep out of drunkenness, she transformed into Hathor, the loving cow goddess, a complete contradiction of Sekhmet; two sides of the same coin. The two goddess are worshipped separately but in their stories they are the same being. Sekhmet is a predator, a lion while Hathor is prey, a cow. Hathor represents joy and love while Sekhmet represents war. The two coincide with each other and are an ideal couple to worship together. Sometimes you need the strength of Sekhmet while other times you need the love of Hathor. Ā Iām a strong believer of unity; you cannot have happiness without sadness. Living on one side of the scale is dangerous. If youāre happy all the time youāll never truly enjoy it, you need the rain to enjoy the shine of the sun. In some occasions you definitely need one side more, but once you find that balance itās a perfect place to stay. Ā So my advice to anyone looking to be a devotee to Sekhmet is also look into Hathor. They are both beautiful and strong goddesses, but in different ways, both important ways.
How to Find Your Patron Deity(s)
Hey guys! I know a lot of pagans reach a certain point in their path where they decide to start working with some sort of patron deity. While having a patron is completely optional in your personal craft, I wanted to make a list of different ways to spot out your patron.
1. Look at your daily schedule. If anything throws your schedule off, note it! In what ways was your day affected by this sudden change? It could be a deity trying to get your attention.
2. Colors. During meditation, in nature, even in your own personal preference, what colors catch your eye? Lots of Deities are associated with certain colors, and like to manifest as them.
3. Animals. Been seeing a lot of deer recently? Maybe a fertility god is trying to contact you. Seen a lot of dogs? Maybe Hecate is trying to get your attention.
4. Dreams. Donāt discount dreams! If something in a dream screams ādeeper spiritual meaningā, look it up! The gods love to be cryptic.
And last but not least- 5. Intuition. As a witch/pagan, it is your most powerful divinity tool. If you feel really drawn to a certain god/goddess/pantheon, donāt ignore it! The gods will let you know if it is not your path.

Casting Glamours
What is a glamour?
Stemming from the old Scots word, aĀ āglamourā (always spelt with the BritishĀ āouā, as we are referring to the spell not the trait) is a kind of magickal spell or enchantment that a person casts upon an object, a person, or themselves to confuse, bewitch or obscure the senses of other observers. For instance, a pickpocket may use glamours as a means of assisting in the avoidance of detection, and a secret Witch may use a glamour to hide their spell supplies. Glamours are also one of the primary spells that the Fae Folk use to hide their presence, and also to make mischief and cause harm to intrusive or blundering humans who offend them.Ā
Why have I never heard of this before?!
Probably because itās not very flashy and, by its very nature, itās centred around concealment. Glamours are very powerful, very useful spells, but they donāt involve love or money or luck or happiness and so they tend to be overlooked by most novice or self-taught Witches. Theyāre also quite hard to perfect, and so many more experienced Witches give up before they have mastered them.
They are simultaneously very simple spells to perform, but very difficult to perfect, as they require significant effort of Will and a lot of practice but if you achieve a true glamour it can be one of the most powerful spells in any Witchās arsenal. Itās also worth noting, however, that glamoursĀ do not conceal things from machines. Machines like metal detectors, security cameras and proximity detectors donāt have minds, and as such they cannot be fooled by magick that affects the mind and how the brain perceives senses. They also work poorly on animals, especially cats. Do not try to fool a cat with a glamour. Dogs are often confused by glamours, but generally see through them with time, and snakes and lizards are completely immune as far as I can tell (since their minds are not concerned with things that glamours affect).
OK, but how do I cast a glamour?
The first step is, as with all spells, to decide to do it. DecideĀ āI am going to cast a glamourā. Know it in your soul, know that what you will do is magick, it is a glamour, and that itās purpose is to hide yourself. Glamours on yourself are generally the easiest to start with, because they are the easiest kind with which to tell when something needs improving.Ā
Secondly, you must visualise strongly -Ā and I mean REALLY strongly, let it consume your being - the purpose of the glamour. Fill yourself with the knowledge how how it will work, what it will do, how it will work. If you are looking for a glamour of imperception, whereby you attempt to make yourself hard to see by convincing the minds of people around you that you are utterly uninteresting and forgettable, fill yourself with that. Let to complete and utter truth of that ring through your head;Ā
āI am forgettable, Iām not even here. You donāt remember me, Iām utterly boring, Iām just another part of the background. Everything about me is empty and dull. There is nothing hereā
And similar such truths. Let your Willpower make them true, let their truth fill the world around you through the strength of your visualisation.
Thirdly, sustain it.Ā This is the hardest step, but a glamour will only last for as long as it is sustained and remembered. If you are visualising a glamour on something that moves or changes (such as yourself) this can involve literally constantĀ reinforcement - never ever stop thinking those reinforcing statements and pouring all your Willpower into them. For objects that are more static, for instance a chest containing spell supplies, this can simply involve a period of refreshment every evening whereby you place your hands upon it and refresh the enchantment youāve placed upon the chest, reminding it of how completely ignorable and boring it is, reminding it that nobody will open it because nobody will care enough to try, that nobody will notice it because itās so dull itās not even there.Ā
That seems REALLY hard, is there a simpler way?
The short answer is, no. This is why glamours are often quite unpopular - despite their obvious power and usefulness, the sheer effort of Will that goes into the construction of a glamour, and the amount of practice you need to get really good, can scare off a lot of Witches from truly persisting. Those who need glamours are often the only ones who are really any good at them - the best glamour-caster I have ever known developed her skill during her life as a pickpocket, when she used glamours to avoid getting caught. The simple fact that she has no criminal record attests to their efficacy! But, it took her a very long time to get that good, and most Witches simply donāt care enough to try.
However, I urge you to do so! Itās such a rewarding skill, even if only so that you can be the undisputed champion of paintball and laser tag in your friend group because nobody ever sees you in the shadows.Ā

Glamours are exceptionally useful and I strongly recommend learning them. :)
These are very fun to learn how to do. And for me (at least) a great way to practice the art of Glamour is to practice while in a mall or shopping center. I know one of my favorite glamours is envision myself becoming this massive and scary tank while walking through Walmart, so people get out of my way or move to the other side of the aisle. But an invisibility glamour can work wonders especially if you have late night classes and you need to get to your car after class and the area gets a bit sketchy after dark. It will help you go unnoticed (speaking from personal experience here).Ā
