We're never going to achieve what we can't imagine.

Robert Neuwirth spent four years living in urban slums exploring and reporting on the economics of the informal economy. Though economists often study markets by centralizing on corporations, Nuewirth's work proves that massive trade networks exist without contracts and permits. He explains that the global informal economy is by far bigger the developed 'luxury' economy. However the ability to over power other levels of economies is just a fantasy because the informal economy is so completely chaotic in which ever country you examine. If Adam Smith was correct about a free market, the global economy would have shifted wealth over and back again by now. There is no invisible hand controlling the economy, but rather the continuation of postcolonial networks and domination of corporations.

I'm Back from the Hunger Games!
Yessss, finally I'm out of school and can look at words for leisure :D What a twisted right of passage for people who claim they like reading: Read, Get into school, read on command, then finally read off command.
Joy joy joy.
Anyway, people were right: Hunger games is a pretty nifty read. I feel less heartless and more out of shape since reading it. hehe. I look forward to getting my hands on the other two :)
Screenwriter for Toy Story Andrew Stanton reveals the key point in interacting with audiences through story telling.
Romney's Taxes shed light on an American Problem
Today President Obama criticized Romney for only releasing two years of tax returns and urges him to release more, just like Governor Romney's father advocated. Romney claims he has never paid less than 13 percent, but he has yet to prove it. Romney has foreign accounts in Switzerland and the Caymen Islands & has evidently getting lower taxes, Huffington Post writer Ryan Grim estimates some years as low as 4.4 percent.
Because Romney is in the political sphere, he's taunted as being immoral or lying for withholding his records. Unfortunately, he is no different than most corporate businessman in the U.S. today. Switzerland is notorious for it's low tax rates, especially their business tax is as low at 15 percent compared to the U.S. 35 percent. Companies like Transocean, Cisco, and Whetherford have store their accounts in Switerland for this very reason: to avoid billions of dollars in taxes.
If Romney releases his tax returns, it will be a step toward political transparency and a step away from his election. However in the world of business, many corporations and businessmen holding money in offshore accounts will stay undetected and untaxed.
The Kick-Off to Freelancing!
We need the media to shine a spotlight on the fact that the city, state and federal governments turned their backs on this community.
--Jenga Mwendo on New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina*
Though mainstream media New York Times, Huffington Post, or CNN often offers timely nationally and internationally breaking news and many great articles, there are unfortunately a large volume of shallow, incomplete coverage. Here's a few headlines I read recently, Five dismembered bodies found in Darango, Mexico, Affordable Care Act cuts $716 billion to Medicare, and VP candidate Paul Ryan plans to overturn abortion ruling on Roe vs. Wade. Though I found all of these headlines interesting, all the headlines also summarized the entire stories. There were no contexts, cause-effect narrative, or conclusion. Simply, drama.
This sensationalistic, disorienting drama in the news is unfortunately the grounds that many news media sites stand on. Giving viewers enough fear and wonder, hiding complexities, context and insight, that they are captivated into reading or watching more. For many, this is the root of distrust in media as well. Hurricaine Katrina is a perfect example that Mwendo highlights. New Orlean's Black population has always been neglected by the government. New York Times caught onto the visual alarm calling it Jungleland, printing pictures of overrun houses. However the major point left out NYT overlooked is that these houses are government owned and neglected before and after the Hurricane. The houses do not reflect the Black community's initiatives to overcome the government neglect. Cases where the mainstream media and governments are in synchronicity, the media becomes a puppet, perpetuating all of the governments faults and foibles.
I'll go insane if I don't start to correct this battered system. Media has the capacity to be powerful and beautiful as well. Bringing visibility comes power. Media connects problems to innovations and communities to leaders one photo, word, sound byte, video clip at a time.

Apples are exactly like ideas
a crate of apples spilled down a hill ,
ideas roll sporadically about
but we all know, that chaos will become
nothing.
stagnant
maybe rotten
that is unless we
collect them again
maybe
kick them around
plausibly
throw them at people.
most definitely.

Paul Ryan Gosling
I've been following the Paul Ryan Gosling Twitter board, and some are leave me rolling on the floor laughing like
Hey girl, I just met you and this is crazy, but here's my number. Call me VP.
Hey girl, know how I stay in shape? PX90. Oh, and digging holes to bury Mitt's tax records.
Here's a few of my own:
Hey girl, I know what's best for your vagina.
Hey girl, just look at my abs and away from that planned parenthood budget.
Hey girl, I know what's best for your future: no health care and lots of babies
Hey girl, I'm fiscally attracted to you, but you'd be so much hotter without those reproductive rights.
tomorrow: meme making ;)

"Todas las bicis tienen alma"
Though half my bikes still remain, I feel like a bit of them is still missing that won't be recovered, replaced yes, but recovered, I'm not quite sure.
