16. accidentally falling asleep on the couch together
“God, I’m knackered,” Rose groaned, flopping onto the sofa in the movie room. Chasing down a big, blue alien who was terrorizing a little town was tiring enough, but having the tables turned on them and hiding out for hours on end exhausted her.
The Doctor followed her, kicking off her boots before plopping down next to her.
“Who knew The Jiggler was so persistent,” she said while Rose rearranged herself to lay her head on her lap.
Rose snorted. “Is that what it was called?”
The Doctor smirked, threading her fingers through Rose’s hair. Rose cuddled closer, her headache from fatigue was already melting away. She rested a hand at the Doctor’s waist, just to have a place to touch her.
“What’s wrong with the name, hmm?”, she mumbled. The Doctor didn’t feel tired, not at all. But resting her eyes felt relaxing, and the warmth from Rose’s hand made her feel calm.
“Nothin’,” she giggled, “S’just funny. Looked a bit like jello.”
“Yeah, I guess it did. The gelatinous is actually quite interesting, when you think about it…”
A quiet snore came from below her. The Doctor looked down, finding Rose’s peaceful, sleeping face. It couldn’t have been very comfortable, so the Doctor tried to maneuver from under her. Rose only held on, moaning in frustration.
She felt the Doctor’s laughter under her cheek. “Don’t wanna move,” she reasoned.
“Alright.” The Doctor settled while the TARDIS queued up a film to play quietly in the background. “I’ll be here.”
The Doctor woke up with a weight over her body, who shifted in her sleep to be more comfortable. Their legs were tangled together, heat rising to her cheeks when she realized what had happened. The couch felt lumpy and small, reminding the her that there was a nice, comfy bed in the next room over.
She wrapped an arm around Rose. Maybe a little while longer.
