Since there are some unsolved details, I think that the 'episode 4 theory' is correct. They're probably going to fix everything in that episode, which will air on the 22nd of January as it seems. But if this happens, what are we going to see in that episode? Moffat said that if they decided not to continue, it would be okay because they made a potential good ending and the final problem "resets" things, so it's actually a new beginning (it's always them solving cases at 221B Baker Street). So in this episode we'll see this new beginning, but it would make no sense. If they don't make s5 but air 4x04, they'll "ruin" this ending. So maybe they're going to air 4x04 and then confirm season 5. (I hope) Otherwise there won't be any 4th episode.

To be honest I've loved season 4! The kiss didn't happen, but that's OKAY. True love isn't just physical contact, it's also (and mostly) sentiment. We don't need the kiss to know that Johnlock is canon and we got lots of Johnlock in these episodes, this season actually screams "Johnlock is real". Also remember that Mary literally confirmed it with her speech. In s4 there are some imperfections, which could have been avoided, but I liked it anyway.

But we all know that Sherlock would do anything to protect John and stay with him, so he will try to fix this even if he is hurt and talking to John is the only way.
