New Article of the Week: Prostitutes and Lesbians: Exploring Queer Characters in Beatles Songs
Exploring queer characters in Beatles songs
"Beyond the question's [How queer are Beatles' songs?] initial fear of blatantly obvious lyrical evidence of queerness, is it possible to interpret some of the lyrics, songs, and characters through the queer lens? The answer is yes, it is! Interpretation is often left to the reader, or in this case the listener, and being able to give context to some songs could bring forth a new perspective. One that may introduce some to hidden queer characters that are beloved in Beatles songs."
Written by @monkberryfields, this lyrical analysis highlights some of the queer characters in Beatles songs — some you may have not realized had queer connotations. Give it a read on the WYCOTP Substack and subscribe if you haven't!

Stu Sutcliffe in Percy Street, 1959
“I remember Stuart very vividly. He had this faithful companion who was always a couple of places behind him and never said very much, rather like the Duke of Edinburgh with the Queen. That was John Lennon. In view of his later capacity for talking, it’s extraordinary that I should remember him that way.” - Adrian Henri

McLennon Internet Archive Project
Introduction
Hi everyone!
I had this project of creating an online mclennon archive on which everyone could upload files and look them up since a while. This was because tumblr is fine and some blogs on here are really well organized and they're very good sources of information, but I thought that a chronologically organized collective archive could be even more effective for research.
Page link
So basically I asked @undying-love about what they thought of my project and they told me they also wanted to do something similar, so we created this internet archive page: https://archive.org/details/@the_mclennon_files/web-archive
How it works
The idea is that if someone wants to upload a file (image, text, audio, video) that can be considered relevant in the context of the history of the relationship (which means NO FANART OR FICTION) between John and Paul they log in on the account, upload the file, write the source, date and details in the file description as indicated in the page details (x), and put it in the correct folder, according to the format (audio, video, etc) of the file.
In this way everything would be sorted in chronological order and easily accessible.
We wrote everything you need to know in order to upload files in addition to the rules and guidelines in the page description (x). Please read them before using the account.
Account credentials
The account credentials will be shared on here, so that everyone who wants to upload a file can log in and do so, therefore it is based on trust that No one uses the account maliciously. However I think that there should be some kind of admins who check the content which has been uploaded to see if it's ok. If you want to be an admin please dm me.
Anyway here's the credentials:
Email: [email protected]
Password: the-mclennon-files
⚠️ Log in just if you want to upload files, you don't need to be logged in if you just want to access to them!
Final words
Please don't go share these credentials all over the internet but just with people who are interested and reliable. But you can share the link of the archive with whoever might be interested.
The archive is empty for now, but it's ready to be used (I'll probably start uploading something in the next days), so if you're interested in this project check out the page, reblog this post, or talk to someone who might be interested as well about it.
If you have any asks about how it works, suggestions or comments, dm me or send asks and I'll be pleased to answer, and I think @undying-love will be, too.
----------------------------------------
If you think that this is a nice idea please share and talk about it so that the project can kick off!
holy in love john
the fact hes the closest to him of all of his family.
"It's funny, in films like Nowhere Boy, you'll get this thing where John's mum is teaching him rock-and-roll or buying rock-and-roll records. But two of John's favourite songs, when I met him, were 'Close your eyes, put your head on my shoulder...' which is very much a Thirties/ Forties song. And the other one was 'Little White Lies': 'Doo-doo diddle-oo, the lies that you told me...' When I met John those were the kind of songs that we'd been listening to. "That attracted me to him. I thought, yeah, I love that song. And he'd say, 'I love this one, or that one.' They did have quite an influence."

god does he love it when Paul is a bitch to the press
I still can't believe these quotes are real
Paul: It was as if I was another girlfriend.
John: I wish I was back with Paul.
Paul: If he was to start a new relationship, he had to put this other one away.
John: He was jealous [of Yoko]. Because up till then, he had all my attention, all my love..
Paul: My relationship with John could not have remained as it was and Yoko feel secure.
John: I want a divorce from you like I got from Cynthia.
Paul: He went through all his old affairs, confessed them all. You prove how much you love someone by confessing all that old stuff. John's method was to slag me off.
John: I was riding on the boat called Paul, and now I'm going to ride on a boat called Yoko.
Paul: We were like married, so you got the bitterness. It’s not a woman scorned this time, it’s two men scorned — probably even worse.
John: A song by an old, estranged fiancée of mine called Paul.
Paul: You just don’t want to know about your ex-wife or ex-husband. After all the bitchiness, you feel the desire for a complete break.
John: Being around Paul gave me a sense of stability. When I met Yoko, I knew it was time to cut myself loose.
Paul: I couldn’t stand in the way of someone who’d fallen in love. You can’t say, “Who’s this?” You can’t really do that. If I was a girl, maybe I could go out and…
John: There may be two [in the band] who sort of go off and are friends, you know...strictly platonic, of course.
Paul: There was John's attempt to get rid of the spectre of me, which I understand, because he had to clear the decks just like I did
John: I've compared it to a marriage a million times. It was a LONG relationship. It started many, many years before the public knew us. Paul and I were together since he was 15, and I was 16.
Paul: We spurred each other into marriage. [John and Yoko] were very strong together, which left me out of the picture. So I got together with Linda...
Another Kind Of Mind : New episode! The summer of love😍
Love this bit of weaponized incompetence John does for Paul's attention
Going from playing She Came In Through The Bathroom Window easily and without looking at any notes...
...to saying he has no idea how to play it and making Paul come show him and then they have an excuse to touch, just coincidentally of course.
me, whenever someone asks what I like to do for fun

@anotherkindofmindpod new podcast episode! Woohoo!
hello! first, thank u for all ur work re compiling info on john and paul!! I wanted to ask if you'd heard anything about the song "girl" as being about paul, actually. I swear I'd seen speculation about it before and am thinking you had some post about it or if it's something I completely made up??
Hi!! I don't have any post about it. The only time I have heard someone speculate about Girl being about Paul was Rob Sheffield, in one episode of the podcast Another Kind of Mind. I think it's this one: https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-nfrh3-1277b09?utm_campaign=w_share_ep&utm_medium=dlink&utm_source=w_share
