lately I've been thinking about beauty standards and here are some of my thoughts...
There was never a time in history were beauty didn't play a big role. In today's society beauty standards are mostly affected by social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok & Co. And there is this toxicity on those platforms which make me feel less of a human. We often forget that most of the things we see online are fake and that a lot of influencers go into credit card death to present their audience a life that they actually can't afford. I personally feel miserable when I spend to much time on IG because I constantly compare my life to others. Even though I know that most people just share their best moments and pictures where they look nice and cute. But still it creates an Illusion of what a happy and fulfilling life looks like. Through the eyes of social media materialism and status symbols are the key. And the more I think about it, the more I feel sorry for the people that truly believe that if they achieve all those things they'll be happy.
Why beauty standards aren't sustainable.
If you watch the ideal body type and how it developed over the last 50 years you'll see that it's pure luck if you're In or Out. There were times when having boobs and a nice ass wasn't something to be proud of. Nowadays we. can't have enough curves. And people who want that “ideal body. type” (through the eyes of society) will spend thousands of dollars to look like that. Here is the thing, those implants won't last forever and it's extremely risky to get those kinds of surgeries. Furthermore, there are a lot of bad side effects with having implants in your body. You see in 20 years there will be a totally different trend. And all the money spend on the surgeries and stuff will be for nothing.
You see there is no right or wrong body. The. best thing we can do is to accept ourselves exactly as we are. (If you feel like you want a surgery to feel better about yourself I won't shame you for it. Cause there are a lot of other reasons why it can be good to have a beauty surgery. But probably a question you should ask yourself before is “Do I wanna change for me or society?”)
