Some of the best moments are unexpected and this is especially true in a place like New York City. This picture shows the true essence of a sidewalk performer doing his thing, though it didn’t start out so photo-esque. I pulled up to Trader Joe’s on my bicycle and saw this guy playing his trumpet standing up. About 10 min later after I came out of the store, I saw that he had moved onto his back while still playing. The lady in front of me gave the same confused/amused look I gave when seeing him. I felt that this moment had to be captured because of his great multitasking ability to stretch and play. I quickly ran over to his side and waited for a break in the sidewalk traffic and boom! I didn’t put much thought into the shot other than I had to get him from the ground and wait till no one else was in the picture. Not much time to compose the shot either, so the background was just going to have to make due. Luckily there was a cab for that nice yellow pop against the evening blue/green hue. This was shot on iPhone.
New York City is a place full of lights. When we think of natural light photography, we tend to usually always think of daylight or ambient light from a room. With the amount of signs and LCD screens just lining parts of the city, I chose to use window lights in the evening. I was riding my bike around the city (per usual) and I’m always scouting new locations for photo shoots. I had a good feeling about the amount of light that was projected downtown. This is when I called up my model and said “I have something, let’s meet up and do this.” She agreed and brought an assistant along just in case. I’m always down for an assistant since I never know when I may need the extra hand. The light at this location constantly changed from white to green and vice versa. That’s something you would have to take the time to put together and have a multi-light setup in a studio. When shooting in the street, it’s always good to travel light (no pun intended) and bring the essentials. More shots to come, but for now here are my two initial favs I took using the window lighting from a TD bank
Need to jump back on the blogosphere Jonfreeze turned 8 today!
Nice! Just need $6500
This year has been filled with incredible sunsets over the city. I’m always either on the train on my way home or on a bridge which obstructs the view. So when I did get the chance it was magical. See for yourself.
LMAO!!! Apple take notice!

Fade video is a rip off real art
I could be way off, or way on about the new "Fade" video Kanye's whack ass came out with. In the art world, if anyone paid attention he pulled a lot of elements from my all time favorite artist Matthew Barney. Sure, the video starts out just as sexualized as most MTV videos now a days, but it wasn't until the end that I saw a total rip off from Matthew Barney’s work.
Gym factor Let me go into further details about some of the things that resemble Matthew Barney's work. Matthew has a series of work which he calls Drawing Restraint. The idea behind this series is that he tries to make drawings, but the gym equipment and other restraint type devices challenge him to hit the palette he's trying to draw on. He'll use trampolines to jump at the ceiling and with each jump he's only able to draw/paint a line or two until he bounces back up. Another example would be where he used a bungee type cord attached to something extremely heavy (or even another wall) and he has to try and reach as hard as possible to draw on the wall in front of him. Basically, you get the idea of the series, but there’s your gym reference. Check out more for yourself here.
Cat Lady In Kanye's video, after the sloppy wet make out session in the shower, there's a shot of the couple. Somehow the lady turned into a cat/human half breed, the camera then slowly pans out to where you are able to view a child and some sheep. This is a total rip off from Matthew Barney's style. The cat lady has been done in Cremaster 3, with an amputee actress. Matthew was creative and he was able to create cat like feet for the actress who does not have legs. He was on point with his creation.
Sheep The sheep at the end of the video along with the baby also come straight from that of the Cremaster cycle. Even the slow pan is a very Matthew Barney style in terms of film direction. In Cremaster 3, there is a scene where the "apprentice" character enters a level in the film where he must do a log tossing type of sport. Instead of a log, he uses large decorated legs and aims to get the proper end of the leg into the socket of the sheep carcass on the ground.
Sheep log tossing video scene - https://youtu.be/zaS4yFs40vE Conclusion The mainstream world which is Kanye's (because he’s pop music, not hip hop) fan base may not care one bit about this comparison. When it comes to originality, this video "Fade" has too many similar elements to those of real artists, real creative thinkers and a real sense of artistic vision.

The bully breed is so much fun. I own the Staffy (black one) and we were watching the bulldog. These boys are like brothers and they have lots of fun together.
I attended the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival this year again. This time they had some serious headliners, including Talib Kewli, Fabulous and Nas. My wife likes to get up to the front by the stage for shows. I’m lucky in the fact that she wants to do that so that I can get some good pics. We were not front and center, but the our angle was pretty decent. Here are just some of the pictures I took.
Last night was the Manhattan Henge and the streets were flooded with people taking pics. It was surreal in person and I finally got to witness it.

This was loads of fun. It’s maybe not the most interesting shot I could have gotten, but I really like how the sun goes directly down the street.
