If trb were girls Adam would be like 'god I hate how Gansey can get away with wearing no makeup and still look glamorous even though she could afford all the best products, not like me I need to use this drug store shit on my face just to slightly keep up and so people will treat me with respect' and Gansey would be like 'if I didn't have all these expectations upon me to be the perfect daughter and the perfect classmate and the perfect girl I would be able to just express myself like how Adam does I love Adam her eyeliner is so cool I want to be cool like Adam'. Consider this: Gansey who was silently questioning his sexuality, maybe realizing he feels attraction towards Ronan, and thinks maybe Ronan looks at him a certain way that could indicate his feelings could be reciprocated? But then Niall dies and Gansey puts his complicated feelings aside because Ronan is grieving and dealing with A Lot so he prioritizes being a good friend for him.

Gansey noticing Ronan’s instant crush on Adam the moment Gansey introduces him to the friend group and oh.

Gansey who also sees the appeal in Adam and instantly tried to emulate him so that Ronan would look at him that way again too but quickly realizes he's fighting a losing battle because of course Ronan chooses Adam, who wouldn't? Adam is a real complex person, is both intelligent and handy, can hold his own against Ronan's remarks instead of needing Gansey to rescue him.

And even if Adam doesn't see the appeal in Ronan at first, Gansey still vouches for his character, tells Adam what a great person Ronan is underneath all the grief and hurt, and tries not to feel the longing in his heart. Tries to ignore that sick satisfaction he feels that Adam doesn't seem interested in Ronan and, oh sure I'll go chat up that waitress you think is attractive for you...
