after the huge amazing response I got from my ace!Jiang Cheng comic - all of the ace people saying how amazing it felt to be acknowledged, and all of the people who came to me saying that they hadnāt realisedĀ they were ace until they read the comic - I decided I wanted to make something for ace awareness week. itās not quite as pretty or feelsy as the other comic, but there are so many people even within the LGBT+ community who just⦠genuinely do not understandĀ asexuality, I figured even something basic would help :)
happy ace awareness week! please remember: everyoneās experience with sexuality is different! be kind and support each other!
This week is Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week ! Or aro week for short
If you didnāt know, Iām aroace āØ
If you have any questions, Iāll gladly answer them !
Something thatās been stressing me lately.
Stop being so interested in my sex life or lack thereof
I am aroace- a comic
When did you first discover the word asexual?
You donāt need romance to be complete! The idea that you need someone to complete you is amatonormative. Amatonormativity is the assumption that everyone is better off in an exclusive, romantic, long-term coupled relationship, and that everyone is seeking such a relationship.
So many times, I have had people ask me if Iām in a relationship and the assumption is that Iām unhappy because Iām not in one or that my life is on hold and unfulfilled until I get a romantic partner. Romance doesnāt complete you, doesnāt fulfill your life, or make you happy. You can be single and be happy! You dictate your happiness and not anyone else.
Letās do away with single=unhappiness and romance=happiness. Itās harmful to everyone (but especially aromantic people who donāt feel romantic attraction and often, arenāt looking for a romantic relationship).
Also. *shameless self-promo* please check out Take Me to Your Nerdy Leader by Hailey Gonzales (me). The protagonist is aromantic and she joins an anime club, finds her confidence, and embraces her unfiltered self. Itās all about friendship and no romance!

One of those aroace experiences thatās super obvious and also hilarious in retrospect
Here is the comic I made for ace awareness week this year (I apologise for grammar errors and my handwriting, I am not the best at spelling).
Iāve never really came out, because I felt I didnāt have to. Most of my family knows I am asexual and is accepting of it, though there are the ones who just donāt comment on it or see me as a lesbian (none of them know Iām nonbinary).
Due to lack of representation, I never really understood asexuality until I was in my mid-late teens, despite hearing about it when I was 14. I was lucky to grow up in quite supportive household when it came to being gay or bi. But it took me a long time to come to terms with my sexuality and be happy with who I am.
I find ace awareness week (and pride month) very important to me to help educate those that know little or nothing about it, and to help people who may be struggling to understand there is nothing wrong with them. I feel that if I had access to the information I now know when I was younger, then it wouldāve been easier for me with discovering my identity.
For those out there who donāt know, I am asexual, greyromantic and nonbinary. It has taken me a while, but I love me for me. I am quite happy with not having a sexual relationship, and as long as I have my friends, I know Iāll be happy. Stay safe guys <3<3<3
