Finally decided to upload this unfinished Steven Universe AU comic I sketched out in 2020 that went along with the animatic I made.

The premise was that the Diamonds found out about Steven’s existence earlier than canon and stole him away as a small child. The Diamonds retrieve Spinel for Steven to have a playmate, though she initially doesn’t believe Steven isn’t just Pink playing another cruel trick on her. It takes some sort of small but scary accident to prove to Spinel that this is a human (because gems don’t bleed), and she slowly warms up to him after that. (More notes if you’re interested under the cut.)

I had the plot laid out roughly as Steven seeking answers to his cryptic repetitive dreams, then hearing the Diamonds converse about Earth. The planet name sounds familiar so he winds up chasing Peridot to Earth and to the warp hub, warping from there and finding a half built beach house (which the Crystal Gems and Greg couldn’t bring themselves to finish after Steven’s kidnapping) and knowing it seems familiar but not knowing WHY. Steven meets and befriends Connie, there’s some almost-encounters with the Crystal Gems, but ultimately Peridot catches Steven and Spinel and says she won’t report a Diamond but they know they’d all be in trouble if they get caught so everyone keeps their mouth shut and go back to Homeworld.

Steven returns in secret to see Connie, but this time the Crystal Gems warp back in time to see him, attempting to stop his escape. Steven believes himself to be in danger and Spinel warps in at the wrong time, also assuming the same. Garnet says something that sparks a memory in Steven, but before he gets answers, Spinel springs into action to get him out of the perceived harm’s way and they return to Homeworld. Pearl and Amethyst make to follow through the warp, but Garnet stops them, saying if they follow, they would be shattered, and that Steven would return.

(That’s the tldr of it but here’s my chapter plans up to where I stopped working on it. I never officially typed it up but hopefully it’s legible.)

I don't know if you do tips but I want to know how your lighting looks so good it's so just...MMM YES

I’m not sure if this is what you meant or not (and it’s not exhaustive by any means), but adding a secondary light source or utilizing bounce lighting (i.e. light bouncing off the walls or floor or other objects) really elevated my art! And naturally these tips are flexible just like art itself.

Also! Using opposite colors on the color wheel for your lights can give a neat effect, though that really comes down to what you want the mood of your piece to be. Hopefully this is helpful! :)

Besides the daycare attendant and Monty. Who are your other favorite animatronics? I hope this isn’t too annoying :(

It's not annoying at all! I know I mentioned on my art blog I really like all the animatronics, but I guess if I had to make a ranking list?

1. DCA & Monty (they're tied lmao)

2. Chica

3. Freddy & DJMM (also kinda tied)

4. Roxy

And not even because I dislike Roxy or anything, but just because she's harder to draw than the rest to me! 😂

I guess maybe the only one in that game I don't care for is the new decaying Afton design, mostly just because he was underutilized and felt a bit shoe-horned at the end. (And I don't even hate the inclusion of Afton, I just wish they'd done it better! lol)

oh you were joking! Sorry! It’s kinda hard to read what is affectionate or no these days. I forget that people will affectionately insult something they like. Long story short I just gotten out of a bad relationship so the line between teasing and insult is a bit blurred for me at the moment. Thank you for clarifying. I appreciate it.

I'm sorry if it came across that way, I don't mean to! I actually really like the newest rendition of Freddy (I like all the animatronics in Security Breach tbh!), but I can definitely see how you might think otherwise. 😂 These were just silly work doodles.

(I also just really like saying his name like this due to echolalia and how fun it is to say! LoL I'm a simple creature.) I'll have to try drawing him in a more flattering light again sometime! Like these sketches I uploaded a while back came out alright imo. 💕

My primary nostalgia for Mario is playing the Nintendo at my grandmother’s house with my cousins as a kid, but I was the youngest and I was terrible at the game, so I could never make it to the Bowser level. My grandmother passed in January. I tried to play it on the Switch, even if it hurt. Turns out I’m still terrible at Mario.

(Bowser got his butt kicked by Mario so he taking a nap to try again later? lol)

Been thinking about how I engage with media knowing I have autism versus how I used to engage, before I understood why I felt everything so damn much, too much, all the time, why does it seem so easy for everyone else but I crumble when my shoelace is tied wrong. It’s the first time in my life that things have made sense.

(So.. yeah. Maybe logically I know that Bowser would be a sensory nightmare to be around, but like, if you slap on some headphones and stay away from the lava moat so you don’t overheat, you should be good, right. …right? 💀)

(So like… guess who only just watched a play through of Undertale…? Even though it’s been out for almost a decade? hm yeah that’s on me. Turns out that shit’s kinda rad. but also drawing,,,, skeltonmnn….,. difficult. The gooby Sanses at the bottom were my first time drawing him.)

@churchydragon This is my first time ever making a tutorial, so hopefully it makes sense! Monty is my favorite and I wish he had more fanart, so I'd love for people be able to draw him a little easier. ❤️ If this helps you in any way, I'll be thrilled.
